Hail Mary Prayers go unanswered for Matt Barkley and the the Trojans

Southern Cal had their chances and Utah tried to give the game away in the first half as nearly every throw Wynn put up was caught by the wrong color. But the Utes defense played tough. The Trojans turned the ball over 3 times, once inside the 10 and also missed a hilarious 4 FGs from their true freshman kicker (39, 45, 50, 51). Momentum was back and forth all game but the Utes used it in the crunch time.

With around 4 minutes left, a Utah drive stalled with a 3rd down sack to push them out of FG range and force a punt in a 6 point game. The punt couldnt have been better as it settled at the 2 yard line. but after a 5 yard run, Morgan did the unthinkable as he broke free for 93 yard score to take the lead 21-20.

With three minutes, Wynn did his thing and was magical. He hit Anthony Denham on a quick out that he turned up field for 38 yards to push them into FG range. but with two and a half minutes still on the clock, it was up to John White to burn it up with Palamo knocked out of the game. One a big third down play, he broke free and got inside the 10. Electing to run a real play instead of waiting for the FG, Utah busted in for the TD to go up 5 but failed on the conversion.

USC now had 15 seconds to go 65 yards. tey nearly did it too! after a quick 17 yard draw and an incompletion, it all came down to a Hail mary bomb into a big crowd of 4 trojans and 8 utes. A USC wr got two hands on the ball but was smashed into dropping the pass and ending the game

    Positives
Wynn improved as the game went on and was great in crunch time
Palamo tore through the defense on the ground
Wynn was only sacked twice and one was my fault
Getting after the ball on defense

    Negatives
DJ Morgan ran for 212 yards
    Return game was pathetic
It appears Petersons leg may max out at 45
    5 WR/TE drops
Palamo knocked out of the game for the 2nd week
    5 interceptions from Wynn
    Very little Dline pressure

    ARMY HANDS CAL DEVASTATING LOSS
    (0-2) CALIFORNIA: 26
    (1-1) ARMY: 31
The game wasn't even close- Army DOMINATED the LOS all day. Starting CAL QB Maynard suffered an injury put him out for 2-3 weeks. Backup QB Mansion was inconsistent but made some nice plays with his big arm. The Knights contained the Golden Bear's offensive attack the whole first half by pitching a shutout. Cal fought back to make it a close game, but the effort fell short after failing to recover an onside kick without timeouts. Cal drops to 0-2, and Coach IrishBearcat's seat only gets hotter at this point.

    +Positives+
    • Slightly improved defensive play
    • No major injuries were suffered
    • Backup QB Mansion started to heat up in the second half
    • Turning a first half blowout back into a competitive game
    • 26 second half points
    -Negatives-
    • The first half offense was AWFUL
    • Poor tackling & giving up big plays
    • Letting the Army RBs and FB fall forward every time
    • Maynard suffering an injury :(
    • Getting pushed around by a team with much less talent

Bruins insult poor San Jose State 56-10
Well I think it's safe to say this game was over as soon as the bruins stopped San Jose State in the redzone. After the Bruins were able to pull that off it was a wrap. Brehaut was finding receivers left and right 20 yards away from their defenders. Brehaut finished the game with 5 TD's and 1 INT. His backup Kevin Prince came in and went 10-13 for 170 yards and 1 TD. It was a good passing day for the Bruins and we hope to have improvement. We take on Texas next week.

Huskies Win Second Game in a Shoot-Out
This was a sloppy game by both teams with three turnovers each, and the defenses must have been on vacation with the total yardage by both teams crawling into the 1100 yd range. It was a true test for Washington's sophmore QB Keith Price, as the star HB Chris Polk left for most of the game with a rib injury. Price was relied a bit more heavily in this one to lead his team to victory. He threw three costly picks, but luckily the defense was able to stop Hawaii from capitalizing on them. Jermaine Kearse caught 8 of Price's passes for 121 yds and 1 TD. Polk still managed to nearly eclipse 100 yards on 19 carries with 2 TDs. The Huskies lead 21-13 at the half, and never looked back.
