Game Summaries: Week 1
Post in here if you want to give a recap.
Minnesota Gophers 38 @ Syracuse Orangemen 31
The Minnesota Gophers start their season out with a win. The Orangemen were down 38-24 but put on a little of a comeback to almost catch those pesky Gophers. The 3 headed monster was at work with Bennett running the ball, Weber passing and Decker catching. The Gophers are at home next week to battle the Air Force Falcons.
Adam Weber- 12-15 188 2TD
Duane Bennett- 21-163 2TD
Eric Decker 6-133 1TD
Oregon at Boise State
That was a very frustrating loss in week 1, especially considering I had won that game already. My D played good but was victimized by big plays all game. A fumble by Best that went back for 6 and a 94 yard TD by the TE were the two biggest plays. My offense is still a work in progress. I certainly need to improve before user games start.
San Diego State 39 @ UCLA 27
The ryty32 era at UCLA suffered a major setback as San Diego State came into the Rose Bowl and upset the Bruins 39 - 27.
In the first half, both defenses did a good job of controlling the game with San Diego State holding a slight lead of 13 - 6 at the break.
After a poor offensive first half, Ryty32 tried to energize the Bruins by replacing senior QB Kevin Craft with Red Shirt Freshman Kevin Prince. Even though Prince was picked off on his first attempt, he was able to lead the Bruins to two straight touchdown drives to take a 20 - 19 lead into the 4th quarter.
In the 4th, San Diego state dominated play by scoring two quick TD's on a 43 yard pass from Lindley to Wesley and a 7 yrd. TD run by A. Henderson. Unfortunately, UCLA was never able to get back into the game and lost 39 - 27.

Iowa wins home opener 31-17
Iowa opened up the game taking the ball on the kickoff and moving the ball down the field on the ground. A holding penalty on a big first down run put Iowa at 1st and 18 and took an early Jewel Hampton rushing TD off the board. Iowa settled for a 43yd FG from Daniel Murray to cap off their first drive. 3-0 IOWA
LTU came out after the kick and started moving the ball through the air extremely well. Their attack took them deep into Iowa territory before the Hawkeyes found the answer. Iowa made a stop at the 20 and forced a 37yd FG from LTU punter Cade Glasgow. 3-3
Early in the 2nd qtr Iowa again got on the board, this time through the air. The big strike, and play of the game, came from Ricky Stanzi as he hooked up with Tony Moeaki on a flag route with blown coverage from the safety and LB. Moeaki made the catch, broke a tackle, and rumbled 40 more yards into the endzone. Moeaki outran the defense on his way to a 58yd TD catch. 10-3 IOWA
Three minutes later in the 2nd qtr Stanzi hooked up with Jewel Hampton for his 2nd TD toss of the game. This one came from 8yds out as hampton turned the corner on a swing pass and carried two Bulldog defenders into the endzone with him. 17-3 IOWA
The scoring was not done yet for the 1st half. LTU came right back and scored in under a minute, when Michael Mosley found Josh Wheeler for the TD from 28yds away. 17-10 IOWA
Iowa took the ball at their own 20 with :40 seconds remaining before the half. Stanzi worked his magic, hitting Hampton and SR WR Trey Stross for big gains on the drive. With Hampton out until the half with a minor injury, backup RB Jeff Brinson comes in and mops up, taking it to the house from 11yds out . A bruising run that left 2 LTU defenders wiping dirt off their backside, Iowa proved that you can run it with power and speed. 24-10 IOWA
LTU took it easy going into halftime, planning on getting the ball at the half.
They came out to start the 2nd half and were stumped throughout the 3rd qtr, as the Iowa defense forced two punts. It didn't go much better for Iowa in the 3rd qtr either. LTU managed to string together a drive late in the 3rd, after a Jewel Hampton fumble, that carried into the 4th qtr before Mosley found Houston Tuminello for his 2nd TD pass, this time from 11yds. 24-17 IOWA
Iowa came out on their next drive, looking to extend their lead to 14 again. A couple first downs put Iowa over the 50 before a bubble screen to WR Derrell Johnson Koulianos went 46yds to the 1yd line. A nifty run by DJK after the reception got him in the open, but LTU SS Deon Young had the angle and delayed the inevitable for another :20 seconds. Jewel Hampton stepped back in the game and took the handoff up the middle for his first rushing TD of the season from 1yd out. 31-17 IOWA
The rest of the 4th qtr went by without any more scoring, as Iowa just played ball control to run out the clock. An early victory at home looks to propel the Hawkeyes to a successful season.
