    #16 TCU @ Virginia

#16 TCU Horned Frogs @ Virginia Cavaliers

The Horned Frogs survive a scare in their opening week of the 2009 season. Virginia's defense was too much for the TCU offense in the first 3 quarters. The Cavs opened a 17-3 lead going into the 4th quarter. With 3:18 left in the game, HB Turner stumbled his way in to make it 17-10. The TCU defense would force an interception and HB Christian would pound the rock with 1:18 left to tie the game at 17. With under 1 minute, UVA would attempt a pass that would be deflected and picked off by Priest. TCU would kick the game winner as time expired to win 20-17.

    OHIO 52 - NORTH TEXAS 27

The Ohio Bobcats traveled to face the North Texas Mean Green and this was not a day for pass defenses. Brandon Jones got the starting QB spot over Boo Jackson and he did not disappoint. His counterpart Riley Dodge lit up the Bobcat Defense going 23 - 36 for 375 yards and four TD's but Travis Carrie (Ohio CB) picked off a pass and ran it back 96 yards for six and one of two picks.

On the otherside Brandon Jones had an almost perfect game throwing for 327 yards going 21 for 25 with three TD's and a pick. He also had a rushing TD to bring his total eight in two games. The running game was still on point with 198 yards on 33 carries.

After the game Coach Blindside had this to say, "I am really impressed with the way he played today. If you have not heard of this kid you will now." When asked about his pass defense, "You saw a defense out there? Other than a few plays it was as if no one was out there, I was happy with our run defense though."

    SDSU 17 @ #18 Boise State 31

Another game, another horrible outing from the Boise State Broncos. This will definitely bring us back down to earth and hopefully make us earn every yard and play hard every minute.

SDSU gets the day started with a 25 yard TD run by Atiyah Henderson. Kellen Moore comes firing right back with a interception that is. However, SDSU would come up short on their next possession on a missed FG. Moore gets the Broncos back to par with a 10 play 50 yard time consuming drive ending with a Jeremy Avery 4 yard scamper for the game tying touchdown. Next SDSU possession looks to be a driving score again but Henderson is pounded like Jenna Jamison, fumbles and the Broncos recover.

Jeremy Avery gets inured on the next possession for 2 quarters. Unfortunately, he would be out till the 4th quarter. The back-up DJ Harper would pound in a score with 22 seconds left capping a 10 play 54 yard drive that took 3:13 off the clock. A sack on the SDSU QB would end the half forcing the infamous "robo" QB to go into the locker room.

Boise State would come out in the second half and notching a field goal they went up 17-7. SDSU would battle back getting stuffed at the goal line to make it 17-10. Titus Young proves that he is too hot to handle returning two huge kick offs. One would put the Broncos offense inside SDSU territory and the other would be a tie-breaking TD.

Up 24-17 with the game in hand, Kellen Moore would throw his 3rd INT of the game. With the game looking grim for the Broncos and possibly an OT battle, Brandyn Thompson gambles and is rewarded with a pick 6. 31-17

    BUFFALO WINS!!!

Buffalo won a close one against Pittsburgh17-10. Playing Cory Jorgensen in place of Zach "Interception Machine" Maynard, led to points. And enough points to pull out the victory at home against a far superior opponent than last week. Pittsburgh was no joke in the first quarter putting up 10 points with our star CB Sherrod Lott out for a few weeks, we felt vulnerable to Pittsbughs offense. But by the 2nd quarter we clamped down on them, not allowing another point. The only miscue by a near perfect Buffalo offense was a fumble with under 3 minutes to go in the Red Zone to break a 10-10 tie. But 3 plays later we picked off an errant Pittsburgh pass. Had a 6 play 1:45 drive mixing up the playaction and runs leading to a 3 yard run by Brandon Thermilus yeah hes also a backup as we lost Mario Henry for a week) with under a minute to go...Pittsburgh was still being blanked by the Buffalo D since their first quarter offense stormed the Bulls, but on 4th and 10 with :45 to go they got a 30 yd pass. So we had to line up again for another 4 downs...by this time we're praying the D holds as well as it had for the past 2 and a half quarters, so we put more pressure on the QB, dropped into a zone, and next play an interception to seal the win. 2 kneel downs from the victory formation later, Buffalo gained its first win of the season.

(my dumbass was too happy i freakin won the game i exited before i pulled any key stats)

Week #2 : Idaho traveled to Washington to take on Jake Locker and the Huskies. The Vandals prepared for the Jake Locker show by mistakingly assuming the Huskies would be throwing the ball or running QB options. And for the second week in a row, the Vandals prepared incorrectly resulting in a thourough dismantling by an effective run game. Freshman UW HB Chris Polk ran for an incredible 274 yds and 4 TD's averaging 10.1 yds per carry on 27 attempts. Polk had runs of 29, 34, 71, and 56 during the amazing performance.

As for the Vandals, they spent most of the day down by 2 scores which kept Jr QB Natahn Enderle throwing the ball. He ended with an impressive 347 yds throwing on 21 of 49 completions. Enderle threw 2 TDs early, but in playing catch up, he threw 2 picks during the second half. The Vandals were shut out in the second half and ended up losing 45-21.

For the second week in a row the Vandals secondary grabbed a few picks. Virdell Larkins and Jeromy Jones each had picks on Jake Locker giving Larkins 2 on the year.

The Vandals were very much expecting to be able to run the ball this year behind a HUGE offensive line and a very deep and rich group of talented running backs. Thus far, the run game is being blown out of the water and QB Natahn Enderle is throwing far more than anyone either wants or expects. The Vandals are expected to continue to try and run the ball and very much look fwd to their home opener next week vs. SDSU.

Eastern Michigan gets the victory, 31-21. It was a tough battle on the road and in the rain against a pretty good opponent. The number of miscues in this game are some cause for concern (several penalties, and two interceptions...plus a high number of drops), but luckily enough were overcome in this one by the play of QB Andy Schmitt. Two early interceptions put his team in a precarious position, but he came through big with four touch down passes. The defense played well overall - especially considering the short fields set up by those picks - though FIU had a couple of lengthy drives against them.

    Key Stat:

    Total Offense - EMU - 398 FIU - 298

Player of the game: Andy Schmitt - 19-35 for 241 and 4TDs

Game changing Performance: Dontayo Gage, whose 75 yard kick return set his team up to take the lead at a critical stage in the game.

Up Next: @[IMG] 0-1. The Eagles will look to extend their win streak by winning their MAC opener on the road against the rival Broncos.

    Tough Week.

    NEVADA @ BYE

Nevada was idle this week and spent most of the week preparing for next weeks show down with Illinois in what will be another test to see if the win vs ND was for real or just a fluke. Nevada must get back to the ground attack if they want to be sucessful.

    Navy 27 LTech 24

LTech learned early and often what their weakness is. The option run used by Navy was just too much to overcome. Navy had 370 yds rushing as a team compared to LTech's 22 yds. Their QB Dobbs had 274 yds rushing and 4 TDs. LTech made a game of it in 4th qtr after falling behind 17 with just over 5 min left. They used a ferocious no huddle to get 2 TDs, the last to make it 27-24 with 2 seconds left in game. Jenkins led the team with 282 yds passing and 2 tds.

    POG

Jenkins 282 yds passing 2 tds
Navy Dobbs 274 yds rushing 4 tds

Ltech hopes their lack of running attack is just a one time thing as they play FCS southeast in week 3.

BYU loses again. A promising season with a lot of hype is fizzling. Max Hall is pressing and the the run game is suffering. BYU's defense has not been a strength and it is very evident early on this season. The let down from the OU game carried over to New Orleans along with other distractions. BYU still can fight for the MWC crown.
