Game Summaries: Week 6, Season 3

    Auburn 28 Notre Dame 51

Notre Dame looked to stay unbeaten on the year against a pesky Auburn Tiger squad. The storyline of this game was Irish tailback Cierre Wood who had 7 total TDs, 6 rushing and 1 receiving. It seemed like almost every Irish drive made it down to the 1 yard line, and that is where Wood took over. This was an action packed game that was not over until Notre Dame got some key defensive stops early in the 4th quarter.

Up next the vaunted, mighty, defending National Champion USC Trojans. Can the Irish shock the world next week in South Bend? Look for a preview later in the week.

Cal wins its second game this year!

    VT-14
    Cal-45

The first half was dominated by Cal with great play execution and speed. Senior's RB M.Vereen and WR M.Calvin got Cal on the board by scoring 31 points in the 1st half. Va Tech was only able to get 7 points from a long and tough drive by RB R.Williams who took it in from 17 yards out.

Cal's Senior QB B.Mansion had a great first half completing 14-16 for 155 yards and 3 TD's with 1 int. But Va Tech shook things with a lot of blitzing in the 2nd half making QB B.Mansion shaky and forced 3 more int's. As Va.Tech began to rally QB J.Clayton completed a crossing route to X.Boyce who made a great run after the catch and broke 2 tackles but as he began to cut to the outside a Cal defender stripped him and it was picked up by Sophmore SS M.Taylor who took it 31 yards for the score.

Cal's coach commented that there is still alot of work that needs to be accomplished in minimizing turnovers. The last two games we turned it over 6 times but overall this was a great victory for Cal winning against an undefeated VT (4-0).

Next game- @ Arizona, UCLA, @USC

    Offensive Stats for Cal

    QB- B.Mansion 24 for 40 355 yards 4tds 4ints
RB- S.Vereen 26 rushes for 223 yards and 1 TD
    WR- M.Calvin 12 Receptions 186 yards 4TDs
    WR- J.Sparks 5 Receptions for 97 yards

    USC disposes of OSU 35-17

Aaron corp continued to lead by example with a 4 TD performance on the road at Oregon State. Marc Tyler managed 100 yards rushing and a score. The defense played sound but did not manage to score for the first time this season. Though they had many opportunites dropped due to the wet conditions I guess.

Next up a huge showdown with rival ND.

Carroll: Just hope we can hold Wood to 2 or 3 TD's as opposed to the 6 he put up this week.

Yeah...I put him in there after my 4th WR went down. He is only rated a 72 as a receiver.

    Oregon Beats Arizona

    Oregon : 31
    Arizona : 13

With RB Shinaba out 8 more weeks with injury, James continued to receive the carries. He was the difference in this game, rushing 20 times for 115 Yards and 2 TD's. He also returned a 90 Yard kick for a TD. QB Thomas was sacked 5 times but went 7/8 for 104 Yards and his only INT came off a deflection.

The Duck D allowed 108 Total Yards to Arizona's offense and only 2 FG's. Arizona's only TD came off a fumble recovery for 6.

Next Week Oregon will travel to Texas to take on TCU.

Yeah, that is fine, plenty of cornerbacks fill in at wideout. As long as you don't do something drastically unrealistic then I am ok with it. Please come to me beforehand.

    Big 10 Showdown!!

Badgers win in final minute against Penn State.

    Wisc - 21
    vs
    PSU - 17

The number five ranked Nittany Lions came to Madison to play the number ten ranked Badgers fresh off a big win in overtime against Iowa last week. It was an early, showcase game for the conference, one in which there were several high-caliber recruits visiting. They, along with the home fans would not be let down.

Scoring began on the day after an interception thrown by young QB Curt Phillips. Penn State would proceed to take advantage of the short field with a nine yard TD pass to Devon Smith. Wisconsin struck back late in the second quarter, evening the game by way of a two yard TD run for Zach Brown. Not to be out done, the Nittany Lions shredded the defense in a discouraging drive, giving them a 14-7 lead at the half.

The third quarter saw this game become a defensive struggle, with both teams trying to establish the run and get some consistent offensive production. Wisconsin still trailed going into the final quarter, when on second and long Curt Phillips connected with Brown out of the backfield on a miraculous, 41 yard TD pass. With the score even at 14, Penn State began to pound away at the Badgers D, but were stopped on third down inside the red zone. That would prove to be a key hold. Trailing by three with around three minutes remaining in the game, the Badgers rode their big play makers: Nick Toon, who caught several key passes to move the chains on the final drive, and Zach Brown, who again got into the end zone with just 18 seconds left for his third total TD of the day. A hail Mary pass as time expired would be tipped away, sealing the victory for Wisconsin.

Key Stat: Wisconsin was able to control the game as well as you could hope for against a great defense like Penn State's They out gained the Nittany Lions in total yardage, 329-193.

Player of the game: Zach Brown. Wisconsin rode him heavily in this game, and he didn't disappoint. - 155 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns.

Next Week: Coming off a big win against Penn State, Wisconsin goes on the road in conference to take on a pesky, 2-1 Hoosiers team.

(Great game, Cimmy. I remember back when I had Arizona and played an incredible game vs ryty. This one was right up there with it.)

Minnesota improves to 2-0 in the Big Ten with an overall record of 4-1. The storyline of this game was the Gopher's ability to "keep it close". Justin Green, tore the Gopher defense up all day early on. In the second half, it was a different story. He did manage to get some nice runs but was contained enough. The Gophers simply, did not make mistakes on offense. We play Northwestern in Week 7, hopefully we can manage to play the same.
