Game Summaries: Week 8, Season 2
Post in here.
Michigan State @ Minnesota
After 2 punts each, MSU hits their tight end on a bad defensive call. They end up at the goal line but stall for a FG. Missing it wide right inside the 5. Kirk Cousins, the starting QB for MSU is injured in the 1st quarter as well for 1 week.
Kim Royston makes a huge tackle inside the red zone to force a crucial 3rd down. He then breaks up a for sure conversion to force a FG. 3-0 MSU
Pittman scores to answer back, firing up the crowd and getting his 13th rushing touchdown on the year ending an 8 play, 62 yard drive that took 2:02 off the clock. 7-3
Pittman would then be injured on the punt return after the defense stopped the Spartans. Good news for the Spartans, bad news for the Gophers as he suffers a pinched nerve.
Minnesota would try to run an option but the pitch would be deflected by a blocker, MSU recovers inside MN territory.
Gophers would stuff 3 runs and force an MSU FG 7-6.
"CAN YOU BELIEVE IT"
Biggest play of the game/Season- With 6 seconds left on the clock before halftime. MSU would line up for a field goal. Weber had thrown 2 interceptions in the last couple minutes and it looked as though the Spartans had found a way to come back. The FG kicker would come up short giving Hayo Carpenter a chance to make something happen. He would alright, he ran it back 105 yards for 14-6 lead going into the half.
DeLeon Eskridge Time It would be all Eskridge in the 2nd half. He dominated the Spartans.
Michigan State 6
Adam Weber 8-16 71 2INT
DeLeon Eskridge 18-176 3TD
Jonathan Pittman 13-52 1TD
Eric Lair 3-34
Kim Royston 8 Tack 1INT
Hayo Carpenter 105 yd FG return
CA>That's sweet. Would love to have seen the replay of the fg return.
Man, I wish I could have saved it. It literally, was the best play that I have witnessed, momentum wise.
USC wins and loses
USC defeated Oregon St. 55-14
Loses Gable for 10 weeks.
USC got an early jump in this one and never looked back. The offense played average. The defense scored two TD's in the first hall which broke it open.
The game lost connection when it was 34-0 in the 3rd after a Chris Galippo hit that caused a fumble recovered by USC. Not quite sure what happend but I simmed the rest of the half. Gable ends up getting hurt. I forgot to adjust my team depth chart in the main menu to make gable the starter so he stays in when the second team comes in so that's my own dumbass fault. Oh well Marc Tyler it's your turn to shine.
Damn, down two rb's....
CA>please don't cry over his loss of Gable. He had 5 RBs rated 90+ overall.
Sorry, that was my first thought. At least he should be back for the bowl season.
Not crying at all lol
I felt the wrath of his rb's firsthand.
I felt them too, even contained them most of the game, but USC has way too many weapons.
#22 Badgers - 29 @ Illinois - 14
Coming off their big road win at Ohio State, the Badgers went on the road again to take on the 3-3 Fighting Illini.
Things got off to a great start as the Badgers would intercept Illini passes on the first two offensive drives for the illini and would cash in on a TD's by John Clay & True-Frosh TE Barry Sanders. Bad news then came for the Badgers as John Clay went down for the rest of the game.
The Badgers wouldn't stop running the ball though. Wisconsin would go on to rush the ball 54 times for 215yds. Zach Brown had 179yds on 40 carries and a TD as he was by far the Player of the game.
Wisconsin's Defense played a great game also as they held the Illini to 182yds of Total Offense.
Next up Wisconsin will take on Michigan St. at home.
Cal 33 Washington 30
I saw the score of Cal's last win and wondered how that happened. Then the game loaded and I was shown Best as the player to watch. His 5 tds made me wonder what would happen here. Cal went down the field with opening kickoff and missed fg. My first play TE catches it gets lit up and fumbles the ball. Cal scores. I throw a pick. Cal scores again. Throw another pick. After 1 it's Cal 14-0.
Cal misses a fg, missed 2 on game. I score a td. I hold them, somewhere in the both Best and Riley get hurt, Riley out till 4th, Best out game. Halftime it's 14-10 Cal.
I get stopped and punt ti start 3rd. Cal scores another TD, misses XP. I score TD, I miss XP, 20-16 Cal now.
I take the lead making it 23-20. Cal scores again with about 2 min left to make it 26-23. I call TO hoping to ice the kicker. They miss the XP. I go down the field and score with 35 seconds left. 30-26 Washington. Cal drives the field and scores the winning TD with 5 seconds left.
good news instant classic loved the game and gave it 2099 for a score, small consolation for a poor Washington effort.
Statisical analysis later.
Arizona State 48 Washington State 21
Coach Derrr Freeman made his coaching debut after the previous coach Dennis Erickson od'd on viagra and died of heart complications after taking some recruits to the local swank bar. Freeman was shocked at how poorly the Sun Devils were coached before him as the recruiting was nothing less than hog wash. The depth chart was all messed up with slow players starting at WR who had lower ratings. It almost appeared as if Coach Erickson was sabotaging the program.
Anyhow, we had a game to play a recruiting board to overhaul. In the game, Washington State came out and hit on a long bomb of 82 yards to welcome Coach Freeman will a bang. Down 7-0 and clearly scared of the sliders after that missile of a throw - Freeman went to the ground game - and he went there often. Trying to control the ball and keep the Cougars offense on the sidelines, junior RB Ryan Bass took on a heavy work load. Bass led the Sun Devils to an equalizing TD to make it 7-7. The rest of the 1st half played out back and fourth until Wash State was forced to punt with 27 seconds leaving Arizona State with 17 seconds left inside there own 30. After a quick out, we decided to throw a quick fade to SR. stud WR Kerry Taylor and somehow the Cougars DB whiffed on the throw and Taylor came down with it as the defender fell to the ground leaving Taylor standing there by himself for a few seconds as he caught his balance. Then, suddenly Taylor realized he could run 62 yards without anyone coming into the screen. Not bad for a 15 yard fade and not a bad first half as the Devils entered the tunnel leading 21-14.
The momentum of Taylor's TD to end the half was all the momentum the Sun Devils needed as we pounded the ball on the ground and threw to Kerry Taylor as he was our only healthy solid WR. Taylor ended up with 10 catches for 207 yards and 3 TD's. On the ground we milked the clock and pounded both Bass and freshman RB Jamal Miles. Bass ended the day with 28 carries for 134 yards and 2 TD's. Miles had 17 carries for 72 yards and a touch. Junior QB Szakacsy managed the game well and looked to Taylor to make plays. Szakacsy went 18 for 27 for 281 yards and the 3 TD's he threw to Taylor.
As for the recruiting scene, the Sun Devils were forced to reset the whole board, visit dates, and scholarship offers as Coach Erickson was content with allowing USC to lock up all signatures on the LOI's without a fight. Also, Erickson built the whole board while dreaming it appeared as he had random #1 players at each position that he had no chance of signing. The new approach for the Sun Devils will be one where we try to contend for some big time players, but also focus on locating the diamonds in the rough in order to stabilize the program and eventually build to USC's level. Rome wasn't built in a day, but Erickson was trying to build it in an hour with toothpicks.
Coach Freeman has arrived. The Rose Bowl is on notice.
