New coach, Papa Perry, and the Crimson Tide beat the breaks off of the Nittany Lions on the Tide's home turf. Things started off great for Bama when on the opening kickoff, Trey Depreist lit up PSU returner Bill Belton to jar the ball loose and allow Bryan Morse to get the scoop and score in the opening seconds of the game. The defense was stiff the entire first half giving Alabama great field position on offense but the Tide could only come away with field goals on their first two visits into enemy territory. After going for it and failing on the 3rd visit, Alabama went for it again on a 4th and inches by handing it off to Brent Calloway who took it 12 yards and into the endzone for the first offensive TD of the game. At the end of the half, Phillip Sims added another score connecting with true frosh, Tyler Johnson on a 71 yard bomb. Sims, who struggled a good bit of the day, added another 43 yard TD pass. This time it was to Carnell Logan for the score. Penn State finally got on the board on the next drive after Vinnie Sunseri whiffed on knocking down a Paul Jones pass caught by Bill Belton who had the fumble on the opening kickoff. Even after the spark that TD created, Alabama was just too much for the Lions. Calloway added another TD run at the end of the 3rd to send the starting offense off the field for the final time to a standing ovation. Once the back ups were in, they maintained control of the game and even added a couple of scores. True frosh RB Jordan Long added both scores: a 2 yard TD in the middle of the 4th and an 8 yard run that was intended to just run off the final seconds but he found the endzone. Next week, the Tide will head to Palo Alto to take on the Stanford Trees.

    Week 2

    Oklahoma St. 30
    Stanford 13

Oklahoma St. picks up an upset at home over the #6 team in the nation. The game started off pretty bad for the Hokies as they let Stanford get on the board with a field goal, then fumbled on 1st and goal from the 6, and let Stanford run the ball back inside the red zone where the Cardinals would punch it in for 6 from there. Stanford would add a field goal, and just like that, with 4 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, Stanford was up 13-0 and the Cowboys looked like they weren't quite sure how to respond. They figured it out though on a 3rd and long by hitting the receiver over the middle for an 82 yard touchdown pass to make it 13-6. After forcing a punt, back up running back Roland rushed it 48 yards for the touchdown and the Cowboys first lead of the game with under 2 minutes to go. Roland was subbed in because starting running back Sims is out for 4 weeks after taking a hit earlier in the game. Stanford would be held without scoring and Oklahoma St. would take 14-13 lead into the half. To start the 2nd half, they'd add a field goal, then add another field goal in the 4th to make the score 20-13. Oklahoma St. would come up with a pick, then the QB would take it 28 yards for a rushing touchdown and a 2 possession lead. The Cowboys would stop Stanford once more, and add another field goal to make the final 30-13. Oklahoma St. out gained the Cardinals 408-214 and forced Stanford to throw 4 interceptions on the day.

    #12 South Carolina 20
    #10 Alabama 39

Alabama started this game off right with back-to-back TDs: a 53 yard Phillip Sims TD pass to Carnell Logan and an INT that was returned 55 yards for a score. South Carolina was able to score the following drive after a Howard Wilson 60 yard TD run. The Tide was able to keep the Gamecocks from scoring for the entire 2nd quarter and was able to score 5 times: 3 Cody Mandell FGs, a 35 yard Phillip Sims TD pass to Bradley Sylve, and a safety after Jordan Shaffer came free and jarred the ball loose from Mike Price and it was recovered by South Carolina but it was in the endzone. Midway through the 3rd quarter Mike Price was able to close the gap for the Gamecocks after connecting with Ace Sanders for a 26 yard TD but Bama was able to answer it at the end of the 3rd when Blake Sims was able to take a screen pass from Phillip Sims all the way to the endzone to make the score 39-14. South Carolina scored again in the 4th quarter but it was too late with just 0:46 left on the clock. Alabama won this game on so many levels: 3rd down conversions, total offense, rushing yards, turnovers, pass rush, and time of possession. Usually if you win in these categories, you'll win the game.

    Offensive MVP
    Phillip Sims
    8/16 220 yards 3 TD

    Defensive MVP
    Jordan Shaffer
    4 tackles 3 sacks 1 FF

Yeh, Freshman QBs first user game away from the confines of home did not go so well.

That first INT for a TD he overthrew his receiver so bad it looked like it was going to the other guy...
Flashbacks to Old File Freshman QB's first year.

Was a thorough pasting for sure... and coming off a game i handed to LSU. It was deflating to say the least.

    Week 4

    Oregon 21 Oklahoma 18

This a rematch of the 2013 BCS Championship game but neither team played like a championship team in this game. On offense Oregon was able to move the but kept coming up short on scoring drives. Quarterbacks Young and Davis combined for 187 yards passing. Davis had the loan interception for the duo, but Young took some costly sacks. On defense the key was third down stops and a big interception by Scales. The starting safety picked off a pass and returned it for a TD. This was the eventual game winner. This was the second TD in one minute for Oregon and put the Ducks up 21-10. Oklahoma answered with a TD and two-point conversion, but could not cut the remaining deficit.

    Week 11

    Oregon 31 Stanford 24

The snowy weather in Eugene did not slow down the passing attacks. Oregon continued to share time at QB with Young and Davis. Davis was clearly the better of the two quarterbacks in this game. He completed 8 of his 10 pass attempts. He also threw for 2 of the 3 passing touchdowns and finished with more yards (164-127). Blackmon was the leader in the receiving core. He caught 3 passes for 112 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown. This was the final score of the game and was the difference in the game. Stanford matches Oregon in most areas. The Cardinals' quarterbacks combined for 257 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals other touchdowns came on the ground. HB Brewser and FB Kramer punched in short rushing scores. Most of the breaks in the game went in favor of Stanford, but Oregon was still able to win a very tough match.
