Your trip to a National Championship starts here!
The Nittany Lions Pull Off Upset Penn State kicked off their season with a tough road game against #11 North Carolina. The Nittany Lions revamped their offensive scheme in the offseason, and it seemed to pay off dividends in this game. UNC received the ball first, but were forced to punt. Penn State put together a nice drive that ended with a 5 yard TD rush by HB Alvin Wright. UNC was once again forced to punt, and PSU drove down the field with confidence. It looked like they were going to take an early 14-0 lead, but sophmore HB Patrick Williams coughed the ball on a HB toss, and UNC capitalized as their FS John Welsh scooped up the loose ball and ran it in for an 85 yard TD. Penn State couldn't get anything going on their next drive, and had to punt. UNC carried their momentum from the fumble recovery and quickly put up another TD, an 8 yard rush by Christian Neal. On PSU's next drive, Junior QB Anthony Nicholson found his speedy slot receiver Bill Belton running down the field with nobody around him in coverage, and the senior wide out took it to the house for a TD:
On UNC's next drive, the PSU defense came up with a big INT:
A few plays later, Alvin Wright found the endzone for the second time in the game:
UNC managed to kick a FG before the half was over, making the game 21-17 Penn State at the half. The Nittany Lions would receive the ball first in the second half, and Nicholson found Bill Belton in single coverage; Belton managed to beat his defender and take it down the field for his second TD reception:
UNC would not be able to score the rest of the game, and were held to 93 total yards of offense in this game. Senior LE Colby Byers disrupted the Tar Heel passing game all day long, ending the day 4 total sacks. Here he is in action:
Great game Gravityyyy
Va Tech- 59
The Hokies got it done, but in the air instead of their usual dominant running game. QB Dunlop shined 20/25 333yds 4TD 1int. Dunlop spread the ball completing passes to 8 different recievers. WR Lee lead with 83yds 2 TD. The defense palyed bend but don;t break as they gave up 400+yds, but forced 4 to's and rcorded 3 sacks. Va Tech gets its first true test when they face tOSU next week.
#6 Nebraska - 27
Miami - 17
Nebraska escapes Miami with the victory in a very sloopy game by the cornhuskers. Nebraska rode Heisman hopeful HB Green for 33 carries 231 yards and 3 tds. Nebraska gave up 3 turnovers.
This will be a tough season if the offensive line does not play better.
#2 LSU 36 - Notre Dame 3
Yeah I dunno...I wasn't really impressed. We played pretty well against a statistically equal team. But this Tiger squad isn't anything to write home about. If we can go 8-4 that'd be pretty good I think.
Ohio State 70
LOL, BYU wasn't much of a challenge. The offensive line mauled the Cougars defense and the running backs had a lot of space. HB1 O'Connor had 230 on just 14 carries while HB2 McAfee had 196 on 16 carries (would have been at least 20 yards more but was at scoring cap). O'Connor scored 4 times while McAfee had 1 rushing TD. The passing game was inconsistent but didn't need to play great. New QB Greene had a beautiful TD pass but he also threw a couple picks. The defense was stellarDT as expected. The defensive unit picked off 6 passes and returned 2 for touchdowns. The defensive MVP's were the expected stars. FS McKeon picked off two passes and returned one for a touchdown. DT White sacked the QB two times to close on the NCAA all-time record. The third star player was OLB who led the team with 9 tackles, including a sack.
Florida 43 - 0 Michigan
Offense was a bit shaky. May have been because the juiced up Michigan D and their home crowd.
Nothing jumped out in week 1.
Could be a grind on O
Defense looked good.
Secondary looked sharp.
Beau Freeman had 2 ints and a TD.
Earl Hunt had a pick as well.
Defense held Michigan to under 100 yards of offense.
#10 Georgia - 17
#7 Nebraska - 27
The 1st qtr did not have much action as both UGA and NEB defenses kept any points from going on the board. In the 2nd qtr UGA would strike first blood on a 20yrd FG to go up 3-0. NEB would tie it up a couple of possessions later on a 38yrd FG of their own. On the next UGA possession the cornhusker D would grab a int and take in for a score to take the lead 7-3 with 1:22 left before half. The NEB would hold UGA to 3 and out and force the punt. Neb was then able to drive down the field and kick a 44yrd FG as time expired in the 1st half to go into the locker room up 13-3. Neb received the 2nd half kickoff and on the 2nd play HB Green busted it up the gut for 76yrds and the TD to push the lead out to 20-3. The teams would exchange punts on their next possessions. NEB pinned UGA on their own 1yrd line. The Bulldogs would run a dive play for 2yrds to get to their 3yrd line and gain a little breathing room. On the next play NEB would go for the throat and bring the house on a blitz. UGA would drop back to pass and QB Jacobs would hit WR Mueller for a 97 yrd strike to get witin 10pts at 20-10 to end the 3rd. Both NEB and UGA would each score another TD in the 4th to make the final score NEB 27- UGA - 17.
Player of the game: HB Green - 23 carries 239yrds 2tds.
good game Twister18 ! As always a hard fought close game between us.
#3 Oregon - 20
#5 Nebraska - 42
Not much to this game. The Cornhusker defense held Oregon scoreless in the first half as they rolled up 28 pts. Oregon was able to grab some scores against the scrubs in the 2nd half.
Heisman Hopeful Leader HB Green had 158 yards on 31 carries and 5 TDs.
Nebraska gets a bye in week 4 before traveling to #10 Penn State and #7 Virginia Tech in back to back weeks.
#1 LSU 20 #8 Clemson 10
All defense and special teams in this one. Video's on Dynasty Wire.
Our offense was really not good the entire game. We got a field goal by our own offensive merrit in the the 2nd qtr. We also scored a td right after a fumbled punt by Clemson to put us inside the redzone very late in the 1st half. We took a 10-0 lead to half time. Clemson returned the opening kick of the 2nd half in for a td to bring the game back to 10-7 LSU. Clemson would kick a field goal late in the 3rd quarter to tie it 10-10. We pretty much held each other in check until I created a big hit fumble on a draw play, that was picked up and returned for a td to make the game 17-10 in the 4th. We later added another fg to take the 20-10 lead with a little over a minute left. That was eventually the final score.
Tough game aarondramp. Turnover did you in. You outplayed me in just about every other category. My offense was stifled.
We move to 2-0 and play MSU next. This team can't win 4 regular season user games. Not with MSU, Bama, and UF on the sched. I might be #1 right now, but that's temporary.
#1 LSU 13 - #17 MSU 21
One damn good game here. I can't look at the stat line on my side at the moment because mine didn't report but this one was a whole hell of a lot of fun. Sparty managed to get out to a 14-0 lead thanks to two first half TD passes from Cook and one unfortunate turnover from LSU made things look like it could get a bit out of hand. However, the #1 Tigers rallied back with 10 straight points of their own made up of two field goals and one MAJOR big passing play to end the half as the Spartan coverage was noooooooooowhere to be seen. In the third quarter it looked like the Tigers had awaken and were ready to roll but missed opportunities were the name as LSU couldn't capitalize on pinning MSU on the SCUNCH like with a BEAUTIFUL punt and forcing a MSU punt that would land OB at their own 32 (it was quite sad). LSU did manage to make it a 1 point game with a FG but Michigan State got methodical on the next drive. Sparty marched down field milking the clock looking like they were going to have to settle for 3 points but a sneaky quick pass to the second fullback out of the power-I led to a broke tackle and Cook's third touchdown of the day along with an 8 point lead after the EP was good. With little time left LSU started letting it rip until an miscommunication by the QB led to his second INT of the day and allowed MSU to kneel it out.
No turnovers make a hell of a difference.
LSU - 281 Yards - 2 TO's
MSU - 319 Yards - 0 TO's
POTG: MSU SR QB - Connor Cook - 12/19 117 Yards - 3/0 TD/INT
DAMN good game BDSDIGITAL , seriously very fun (would have been win or loss for me).
FSU began the game with a long touchdown drive followed by a big 77 yard touchdown run by SR HB Freeman, who finished the game with 235 yards off of 22 yards with 2 TDs and an average of 10.6 YPC. The Buckeyes responded with a good drive and a screen pass for a touchdown. The difference in the game was the Seminoles finished 7-10 on 3rd down conversions while the Buckeyes were 2-6. An early injury to OSU's star WR John Atkins and a late injury to star HB Ray O'Connor hurt the Buckeyes offense as they were shut out for the final 3 quarters.
J. Coker - 231.3 QB Rating, 16-19 215 yards 3 TDs 0 INT
D. Freeman - 22 carries - 235 yards 2 TDs 10.6 YPC
K. Benjamin - 6 Rec 97 yrds 2 TDs
B. Greene - 146.3 QB Rating, 8-16 168 yrds 1 TD 1 INT
R. O'Connor - 15 carries 76 yards 1 receiving TD
Very fun. It was my pleasure. I got beat and your gameplan was spot on.
At the end of the day if I can't run the ball its gonna be very tough for me to win. This week it finally caught up to me. Great game tho. Just as fun a it always was.
The Nebraska defense set the tone early. After PSU forced NEB to go 3 and out on the cornhuskers first possession the NEB defenses forced a punt on the first offensive play of the game for PSU. Nebraska would come up with 5 interceptions in the game which kept momentum on the cornhuskers side whenever PSU would get into scoring range.
KEY STAT: Turnovers = PSU 6 NEB 0
good game fuzzyl0gic. The turnovers were just to much to overcome.
Although the offense turned the ball over twice, the offense played a good enough game behind the defense's outstanding 4 turnover performance to escape East Lansing with a 22-14 win. Although Bama jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first, they were shut out by the Spartans who scored a TD late in the 2nd QTR to bring them within 3. The Tide was able to get a FG midway through the 3rd but Michigan State pulled ahead by 1 after a 32 yard pass by Spartan QB Connor Cook. But Bama was able to score just a few minutes later and even though they failed to get the 2 point conversion to make it a 7 point game it didn't matter as the Tide forced an INT that set up a FG to go up by 8 and forced another INT on Sparty's next drive to seal the game and run out the clock.
GG Jman sorry it took so long to post the recap.
#6 Georgia - 3
#9 Clemson - 22
This game was similar to the LSU game for Clemson in terms of offense and defense. Clemson couldn't move the ball, but neither could Georgia. There isn't a whole lot to write about this game. Clemson kicked a field goal in each of the first 3 quarters to go up 9-0 into the 4th quarter. Clemson then gave Georgia a really short field with an interception, but their defense held them to a field goal to cut it to 9-3. After a few more punts from each team, the only big offensive play happened, when John Daniels broke off a 72 yard touchdown run that made it 15-3 after a failed two point conversion. An interception returned for a touchdown sealed the deal late.
Statistically, the numbers were even worse than I thought. I'll load the screenshot just because it's crazy how bad it was. Georgia's QB's combined for 4 for 19 with 4 interceptions. Clemson was 9 for 20 with 2 intercepions. Clemson averaged 2.55 yards per pass and 6 yards per rush. If you think that's bad, Georgia averaged 1.47 yards per pass and 2.14 per rush.
Good game Twister18 - the one broken play was the difference here.
MVP CB Paul Washington- 2 INT's 1 KR TD
This game was really a tale of two halves. In the first Clemson controlled the ball and stifled any UNC attempt at a score. I was expecting to get blown out as we approached half time. I got the ball back at half and the score was 17-7 with Clemson leading. We made a few adjustments the biggest being benching Junior QB Simmons in favor of RS Senior Marquise Williams who hadnt seen any action since week 4 of last season. Williams turned the ship around finishing 7-10 with two touchdowns and no picks. We outscored Clemson 31-0 forcing several turnovers in the process and controlling the line of scrimmage. Great game aarondramp look forward to playing you again.
Heres some vids.
#7 Michigan St - 0
#5 Nebraska - 30
Nebraska defense comes up big with 5 interceptions and 1 fumble recovery to send the Spartans home with a loss. The cornhuskers were able to hold the spartans scoreless with interceptions each time MSU was putting something together and looked as though they could get on the board.
Good game Jman. just seemed like one of those games were you couldn't catch a break. Good luck the rest of the season.
#5LSU 23 - #6 Bama 10
Alabama really struggled on offense and we had a few really nice plays in the 2nd half. The Lee Td in the 3rd qtr was really nice. Randall played really well for a second straight week. We are playing pretty well lately.
Sorry Perry, tough day for you.
Ohio State started off fast with a long TD pass on the opening drive. Michigan State was in zone coverage, which apparently means no one covers the deep part of the field. WR #1 Atkins was WIDE open for an easy 67-yard TD. Even mediocre QB Greene could not mess this up. OSU added a field goal before Michigan State answered back with a touchdown. The Spartans caught the Buckeyes jumping the run and Cook completed a long pass to Franklin. The Buckeyes answered back with another field goal but the big play came on Michigan State's next possession. Freshman CB Dowdell picked off a pass and returned it for the score. This put OSU up by 13 but Michigan State added another TD before half time. In the second half OSU increased the lead back to 13. This time the rushing attack broke a long play. HB #2 McAfee scored a 47-yard TD on a toss play. Again Michigan State's passing attack was able to respond. Cook passed for his third TD to cut the lead back to 6. After that point the offenses struggled. Cook threw a couple more picks and the Buckeyes added some field goals to put the game out of reach.
The turnovers were the key difference in this game. OSU committed 0 turnovers while Michigan State threw 3 picks. The other stats are fairly even in this game. The game ball goes to backup running back McAfee who out played starter O'Conner. McAfee had just 8 carries but he managed 98 yards and 1 TD. WR #1 Atkins also deserves some praise, including the TD. He caught 2 passes for 87 yards. On the defensive side, safeties McKeon and Gordon came up with big picks late in this game.
B1G Championship Nebraska vs Ohio State
This was a defensive battle with very little scoring. The difference was turnovers and scoring near the red zone. Nebraska threw 5 interceptions in this game and cost themselves opportunities to score. Ohio State on the hand, threw just one pick, though Nebraska's defenders dropped several opportunities. Most of the scoring in this game came in the first half. Ohio State scored twice in the second quarter and took a 14-0 lead into the half. HB O'Connor scored both touchdowns for the Buckeyes. Nebraska had opportunities to close the lead in the third quarter but were held to field goals of 35 and 37 yards. This cut the lead to one score but the Buckeyes' defense continued their strong effort. An interception allowed Ohio State to add a field goal and bump the lead to 11. Nebraska couldn't close the gap, unlike last season, and OSU walked off with a hard fought victory. Offensive MVP honors go to O'Connor who rushed for 93 yards and the 2 scores. He didn't put up good numbers in yards per carry but he did enough to help OSU win. The passing game for OSU was atrocious with just 93 yards in the game and an interception. Nebraska threw for 178 but Heisman candidate Green was held to 25 yards on 12 carries, QB Key was also sacked 5 times and threw all 5 of the picks, On defense the MVP honors go to free safety McKeon and cornerback Dowdell. They each picked off 2 passes in this game Dowdell is a true freshman but has been playing as the dime cornerback for OSU. He will move into the starting lineup next season with 2 seniors starting at CB for OSU this season. Shazaier and White led OSU with 2 sacks each.
Chick Fil a Bowl
Lafonte Thourougood threw a 23 yard pass into a 3-2-6 cover two as time expired to win the game. Triple coverage in the middle of the endzone and my guys decide to leave him at the last second.
That guy needs to go... he gives me fits alllll the time... he scrambles for more 3rd down conversions than i know what to do with...
I run QB spy on every play when facing the CPU. Their QB's will run on like 75% of pass plays if given a chance. The success rate is very small when I spy my Impact Player OLB.
Have been slacking on the Game Recaps since we've been moving so fast, finally got a day off so i'll write all of them up today. So i guess this is more of a season Recap.
First user game was week 4 vs Ohio State who was ranked at the time, this was FSU's statement game as they were unranked. HB Freeman ran for over 200 yards to power the Seminoles offense, while the defense shutout the Buckeyes for the final 3 quarters. Caught a few lucky breaks with injuries and INTs, but a better game than the score shows.
Second user game of the season, star HB Freeman was injured in the beginning of this game, however the backup broke a huge 90+ yard run and ended the day with 160 yards rushing, which was enough to win the game for Seminoles. Great ACC matchup, very defensive game with a few lucky breaks on my end. It was all about who could make the big play, could have gone either way if Gravityyyy didn't drop a few INTs.
This was a great game but the score shows otherwise. We were neck and neck in the 1st half, he made a few big plays because of the Seminoles over aggressive defense and Clemson's WR Bryant converted third down after third down. In the 2nd half, the Seminoles offense caught fire and the defense made a few key stops to allow FSU to win by 14. As a team, the Seminoles ran for over 200 yards with Freeman carrying the load with 175.
This was the game vs Lil - Satan, INTs decided this game as it was a mostly aerial battle throughout the majority of the game. Freeman finished with 120 yards rushing but Coker led the offense with 3 TDs and 286 yards. Not much to say since I'm not sure when i was playin Satan!
The ACC Championship game vs #1 FSU and #2 VTU was a great game that featured a ridiculous second half comeback by the Seminoles. Hokie led 17-10 with less than a minute left in the 1st half but an INT by FSU QB Coker allowed Hokie to score another TD and take a commanding 24-10 lead going into halftime. However, the Seminoles came out ready to play in the 2nd half and outscored VTU 31-0 to win the ACC and continue onto 13-0. Freeman was shut down for the majority of the game but a couple of big runs, including an 82 yard run at the end of the game, left him with 235 yards and 3 TDs. There were so many injuries for Hokie in this game i feel like i beat his 2nd string team, especially considering he lost his running game in the 1st QTR when his star HB was knocked out of the game. He would go on to lose a WR and several other key contributers. Lucky break in this one with all the injuries to Hokie and none to me.
The 6th and final user game for FSU was the National Championship game, even though the game vs VTU certainly felt like the BCS Championship game. Brave took an early 3-0 lead and forced an INT, which put them in great position to take a good lead early on. However, his star HB was injured with a broken finger and wouldn't return, crippling his running game and ultimately his offense. The Seminoles caught fire in the 2nd QTR and never looked back, shutting out the Buckeyes for the final 3 quarters and finishing the season 14-0 as National Champs.
