    Florida 23 Miami 13

Coach Zikry's debut with the Florida Gators was not exactly as expected as the offense sputtered through this game but the defense came up big when they were needed. Hosting #11 Miami at home was never going to be an easy task for a home opener but the Gators did just enough to squeak out the victory. Florida would score the first 13 points in the game as QB Terrel Carr found Chris Dunkley for a 24 yard touchdown on 3rd down, followed by a 29 and 26 yard field goal by William Hugues. Miami would get on the board with 3:33 left in the half as Patrick Wynn found his tight end, Clive Walford, for a 34 yard score to cut the deficit to 6 as Florida took the 13-7 lead into half.
Florida would add to their lead as Carr threw his 2nd touchdown on the day, finding his fullback Cory Johnson for a 2 yard score before Hughes extended the lead in the 4th hitting a 28 yard field goal. Down 16, Miami would score with 44 seconds left on the clock as Wynn found Luke Thomas for a 8 yard score, but after they missed the 2 point conversion they were unable to get the onside kick and Florida would kneel it down to escape with the 23-13 win.
    Game Notes:
*The Florida defense showed up big time in their season opener, limiting the explosive Miami offense to 10% 3rd down conversion rate, while also limiting them to 4.68 yards per pass, and 1.74 yards per rush.
*HB Mack Brown of Florida was hurt on the last play of the 2nd quarter and would not return to the game. He finished up with 10 rush attempts for 83 yards. Marcus Martin would run the ball 21 times in the 2nd half and end with 88 yards himself.
*Terrel Carr struggled in his first game of the year going 13-24 for 192 yards, throwing 2 TDs and 2 interceptions.
The Florida Gators take on Texas Tech next week.

FLORIDA GATORS RECRUITING NEWS - WEEK 2
    1. Tyler Clark. TE. 4 star recruit
    - 6'3'' 233 lbs.
-With both tight ends on Florida's current roster being seniors, the Gators had to go out and make sure they could recruit some tight ends for next year. While Clark is more of a blocking tight end, the Florida coaching staff hope to work with him on making him a threat to catch the ball as well. With no recognized tight ends currently on the roster for next year, look for Clark to make the final roster as a freshman next year as the Gators cannot afford to redshirt him next year.
    2. Marcus May. P. 1 star recruit.
    - 6'2'' 215 lbs
    - Another signing that was made based on need for next year. Current punter Brandon Owen is a senior and with no recognized punter on the roster the Gators had to go out and make sure that one was signed as quick as possible. Unless the Gators find someone with extraordinary talents in the punting game who has late interest in joining the Gators look for Marcus to be the starting punter come next year for Florida.

Mack Brown's Monster Day Leads to Comfortable Gator Win
    Florida
Another week another SEC opponent as Florida looked to win their second consecutive SEC game in a row as they played host to Kentucky. The first quarter was a defensive affair as both teams were only able to put up a field goal each as the first quarter ended in a 3-3 tie.
The second quarter saw the Gators explode in terms of points scored. After Kentucky tied the game in the 1st quarter off a field goal with time expiring, they kicked it off to start the 2nd quarter. That's when the Mack Brown show started as he took that kickoff back 105 yards back for the score. 3 minutes later Terrell Carr would throw his only touchdown of the day as he found Adrian Coxson for a 57 yard score as the Kentucky defense sold out against the run and they were burned. Mack Brown was able to add a couple more touchdowns through the ground, from 11 and 1 yard out, to close the half with the Gators up comfortably, 31-3.
With the big lead the Gators decided to keep the ball on the ground for the most part in the 2nd quarter, but were still able to add to their lead in the 4th quarter as Mack Brown stepped in for a tired Marcus Martin to score his 4th touchdown of the day from 5 yards out. The Florida defense was able to step up and stop Kentucky cold, limiting them to 111 yards through the air (46 of those coming on 1 play) and giving up a mind boggling .68 yards per run on 19 attempts. The engine that is Florida seems to be churning at the moment, and the defense is playing lights out, giving up less than 7 points a game (26 points allowed in 4 games). The defense has allowed for some of the "weaker" spots on the team to go unnoticed by others, but Coach Zikry definitely knows that some things still need to be worked on if this team is to be considered one of the best in the SEC.
    Florida Player Stats:
QB Terrel Carr: 5-13, 96 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
HB Mack Brown: 27 rush attempts, 213 yards, 3 TDs
WR Adrian Coxson: 2 catches, 70 yards, 1 TD.
