    Florida 27 USF 21

The new look Gators almost blew it. The #6 Florida Gators host in-state foe South Florida and the game came down to the final minute. Florida struggled for consistency on offense all day. Jeff Demps and Emmanuel Moody would be lost to injury early on in this one. That left Mike Gillislee to handle the backfield duties. he responded with 120 yards and two TD's that but that but the Gators on top for good. John Brantley thew for nealy 200 yards and a score but was also threw a TD to the other team. Florida struggled to protect brantley as he was hit constantly. However, BJ Daniels, the Bulls QB had little to no pressure all night. Florida dropped 7-8 easy interceptions as well. The defensive highlight of the game came on the first play from scrimmage when Will Hill knocked loose a caught pass resulting ina fumble recovery for Jelani Jenkins and setting up the Gators opening FG.

    Florida 23- Tennessee 7

Meyer gets his sights on UK.

John Brantley and the Florida Gators were able to handle the Tennessee Vols 23-7. Brandon Hicks had a big sack and a 60 yard pick six on the day for the Gator Defense. The lone hiccup was a 70+ yard TD pass to D. Rogers from QB N. Nance. Jeff Demps, Mike Gillislee and Emmanuel Moody combined to go over 100 yards and a score. Deonte Thompson caught a 78 yard TD pass from Brantley as well.

This leads to a huge showdown with undefeated and uprising Kentucky.

Meyer: "We have a big one in the Swamp vs. UK. They have one of the best coaches in college football and he has proved it with some upsets early on. We have alot of work to do to get ready for the Wildcats because i assure you, they will be ready for us."

    Shortcoming

Too little too late. After being outscored and outplayed in the first quarter to the tune of a 21-3 start, the Florida Gators come up 2 points short against the NCAA's Cinderella story the Kentucky Wildcats. Despite a great game on the ground from Jeff Demps 115 yards and 2 td's, the Florida offense threw three costly interceptions. None more costly than the first that resulted in 6 points. Quarters 2-4 belonged to the Gators but they could never blow it open. They never put consecutive drives together to keep putting pressure on the Wildcats. A failed 2 point conversion left the Gators a 21-19 loser.

Urban Meyer: It just wasn't our day. When that ball bounced around and got into the hands of that wide out, you could tell. Well coached team. Cant hang our heads or we will get beat by 50 next weekend.

The Florida Gators were raped by the best of the SEC West. They are now just playing to keep their bowl streak alive. The Alabama Crimson Tide and LSU Tigers outclassed the Gators in every portion of the game of football. They lost by a combined score of 70-17. Next the Gators will take on Mississippi State and ex offensive coordinator Dan Mullen.

Gators win . . . barely 13-10 at the buzzer.

Florida is struggling. They have not seemed t find their niche on offense and has resulted in three losses and a near catastrophy vs Mississippi State. It tool the Gators all four quarters to win this game as Caleb Sturgis drilled the equivalent of an extra point to win the game at the buzzer. The defense played well despite a few miscues do to being worn down by the no huddle attack of the Bulldogs. They did not capitalize on what should have been 6-7 interceptions. Deonte Thompson and Carl Moore provided the big plays in this one. Thompson scored the lone Gator TD, by jumping over the defender and breaking the tackle for a 44 yard score.

Urban Meyer: I guess we are going to have to focus on the running game. That's the only way we move the ball consistently.

Trattou had two sacks on the day.

The Florida Gators dominated the Georgia Bulldogs in the 2010 edition of the Worlds Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. John Brantley was 15-20 for 230 yards with 1 TD pass to Chris Rainey. Caleb Sturgis added 4 Fg's on the day including a 52 yarder. Jeff Demps was effective on the ground almost hitting the 100 yard mark.

The Story of the day however, was the Gator Defense who battered Bulldog QB Aaron Murray. Leb by Justin Trattou who had two sacks, the Gators held the Bulldogs to 138 yards on the day.

Urban Meyer: Nice defensive effort today. I hope we have turned the corner and continue to improve as a team the rest of the season.

Trattou had 11 tackles 7 tackles for loss and 4 sacks and a forced fumble vs Vanderbilt.

Despite the 14 points given up, the Gator defense laid it on the line. Justin Trattou had 11 tackles 7 tackles for loss and 4 sacks and a forced fumble vs Vanderbilt. The Gators won 35-14. Trattou has been a terror coming off the edge and whipping offensive line tackles at will. Floira recovered two fumbles on the day, one of them at a major cost. Jon Bostic laid out a receiver who had caught a crossing route and Ahmad Black recovered the fumble and tried to return it. He would have his collarbone broken and be lost for the season. On the day the Gators totaled 7 sacks and countless hits on the Vandy Qb.

John Brantley had a so-so day. He threw 4 TD's but also two Int's. Jeff Demps, Emmanuel Moody, and Mike Gillislee all ran hard totaling well over 100 yards combined, with dazzling runs. Thompson (2), Rainey and, Hines were the recipients of the Brantley Td passes.

Urban Meyer: ANytime ou lose a player for the season it is hard to celebrate a win. When that guy is guy like Ahmad Black, a leader, high character, and a true Gator who wanted to finish his career here, it hurts even worse. We will get the young guys ready and fight on.

Jaye Howard helped lead a 7 sack effort with 2 of his own.

Florida runs past Boston College 34-20

The Florida Gators debuted the 2011 orange and blue with some spectactular play and some rust. The Gators got over 350 yards passing and 3 td's from senior QB John Brantley. Brantley was not as accurate as he wanted to be and threw an interception. Three Gator receivers had 90 or more receiving yards including first year starters Omarius HInes and TE Gerald Christian. Chris Rainey caught a 74 yard TD, Jeff Demps had a 30 yard TD sprint, Omarius HInes scored on 50+ yard td stirke, and Gerald Christian put one in as well.

The Gator defense had spurts of pressure and periods of time where they couldnt smell the Boston College QB. They recorded 7 sacks on the day with Jaye Howard and Jelani Jenkins posting 2 a piece. True Freshman stud Eric O'Donnell even had a sack as he started in dime packages.

The Gator defense forced 1 turnover on the day with a fumble recovery. The Gators host resurgent Missouri next week in the Swamp.

John Brantley had a rough week. he had to hear endless questions from fans, classmates, and coaches. Why did you throw that pass? That question refers to the interception he threw in the deciding minutes of the game against Missouri. He knew a victory vs. hated Tennessee. He wanted redemption . . . and redemption he got.

John Brantley threw 4 td passes and the last came with 18 seconds to play down by 5. The Gators were down by 12 going into the 4th quarter and they went into pass mode. Brantley connected with deonte thompson twice in the quarter and lifted the Gators to a 28-27 victory. He also found Chris Rainey two times for TD's. Chris Dunkley was able to move the sticks and had big catches in the 4th quarter.

The defense has continued to goet burned by the big play. The unit was led by big Jaye Howard with 3 sacks.

The Tide roll the Gators 37-7. Alabama utilized the outside running game and TE to dismantle the Gators in this one. JOhn Brantley played as bad of a game as we've seen from him with 4 INT's. Gators get ready to go to LSU and take on the Tigers.

Hines had a big 51 yard score to boost Gator momentum.

    Big Win in the Bayou

The Florida Gators were able to hold off the LSU Tigers in a classic SEC matchup. The went into double OT with the Gators getting a 49 yard FG from Caleb Sturgis and the Gator Defense being able to force LSU's young kicker to try to kick a FG from the right hash that never curved into the uprights.

This game was highlighted by big plays from LSU's running game and Florida's Passing game. Florida's John Brantley was able throw for over 300 yards and 4 scores while throwing 1 interception. He hit Omarius Hines on a 51 yard score and Chris Dunkley on a 70+ yard strike against the blitz. He was able to hit Andre Debose and Desmond Parks in the redzone for scores as well. Jeff Demps was held in check but mangaged a TD and some timely runs to move the chains.

Florida's defense continues to be plagued by giving up the big play. However n interception By Jelani Jenkins (7 tkls) was crucial in this one. Jaye Howard had 2 sacks. Eric O'Donnell the stand out true freshman defensive back totalled 8 stops and a sack on s 3rd down that knocked the Tigers out of FG position on one drive.

The Gators have a bye week and will look to gain some momentum on the recruiting trail.

Florida wins 31-27 in barn burner!

Chris Rainey got it started and Chris Dunkley turned off the lights. The Florida Gators overcame a sloppy offensive effort to out match the Georgia Bulldogs 31-27 in the Cocktail party. John Brantley threw 3 td's on the day 2 coming in the fourth quarter (both to Dunkley).

Chris Rainey answered a double digit td drive by Georgia to open the game by returnung the ensuing kick 101 yards for a score. From then on it would be a battle for teh Gators as they fell behind 17-7 in the first. Brantley was able to find Deonte Thompxon in the second quarter to close the gap.

Brantley and the Gators would manage to tie the game in the 4th quarter. The Bulldogs were able to drive the field and soak up all Floridas timeouts before hitting a chip shot FG to take the lead with 51 seconds to go. Brantley got a helping hand from Rainey again who returned the kick off to midfield. Brantley was able to hit Rainey, and Hines to set up the go ahead throw with 11 seconds as they snapped the ball.

Brantley: I knew they were coming again, they blitzed us all day. I let it rip and Chris was in place, it was a beautiful thing. Total team effort again, I guess we perform our best under pressure.

Gators win another close one 31-22

The Florida Gators got all the breaks in Lexington Ky. They threw an early pick that would be fumbled by the Kentucky defender and recovered by the Gators. They turned that gift into a Caleb Sturgis 21 yard FG. The Gators would also get a pick 6 after a hit on the Kentucky Qb forced an errant pass that went straight into the hands of LB Jon Bostic with nothing but grass in front of him. those 10 points were the difference in a 9 point game.

John Brantley threw for 250+ yards and two scores with two interceptions the other was in the endzone near the end of the first half. Jeff Demps carried the ball 23 times in this one for 88 yards he was injured and will be out for 4 weeks. Chris Rainey was player of the game with 6 catches for over 100 yards and a score. Omarius Hines and Mike Gillislee also scored TD's.

    FLORIDA GATORS SEC CHAMPS 2011

Brantley and the defense come through in the 4th
John Brantley threw for over 400 yards and a couple td's against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship game. The second Td proved to be the biggest as e would find freshman Adrian Coxson in the middle of the endzone with 5 seconds to play. That ended a 16 point 4th quarter rally. The Gators went into the final quarter down by 15. Jelani Jenkins would stop Lacey the replacement runningback to Trent Richardson in his tracks in the endzone for 2. Trey Burton would find Omarius Hines for a TD and then Brantley worked his magic again. This is how the Gators have gotten it done all season, why stop now. A SEC Championship BCS Bowl bid should help bolster recruiting this offseason as the Gators have some spots to fill.
Urban Meyer : This is the identity of this team. Grind one out, wait to the last possible second and come through with a win. It was another great 4th quarter for us and Johnny just added to his legend.

Gators open up 2012 with a bang.

The Florida Gators opened the season with a convincing 34-0 shut out of ECU. The Gators will be using a 2 QB system but Blake Wallace the juco transfer debuted with a 4 TD toss game. The Gators used a variety of runners to eclipse the century mark as a team.

The defense played well recovering a fumble with 2 interceptions. Eric O'Donnell got his first start outside and shut the field down. Jelani Jenkins flew around and disrupted the Pirate offense.

    Florida falls to Texas 35-14

Well it only took three weeks into the season for the Florida Gators to be reminded that John Brantley has left the program. In a 4th quarter where the Gators would trail 28-14 and have chances to contend for the win, Florida's Qb's threw 3 Interceptions 1 for a TD to kill any chances at a comeback. Both Quarterbacks were able to find Frankie Hammond for scores in their two-quarterback system. The defense wasn't much better in this one, lacking the ability to consistently get stops.

Florida opens up SEC play with the VOLS this week.

Coach Meyer: "We have got to have better play late in the games by the QB position. We were spoiled last year by Johnny. The mentality of this team must change, we can't live on the edge any more."

The Florida Gators have dropped two straight and have gone 0-3 in user games. Presser

Coach why the drop off this year after winning the SEC last season?

We have a transition in offensive scheme and Qb's. We haven't gotten the big stop or the nail in the coffin drives in the past two years. Every game has been a grind. We lost our grinder tho in Brantley last season so we are trying to find guys who will have that no lose mentality.

The running game has been pathetic, what's the issues?

We will address that in recruiting.

Grade the play of Blake Wallace and Trey Burton so far?

I'd give Blake a B, he needs to get tougher, he's been knocked out of the last two games, and its hurt us. Trey is going to get more opportunities in our film study hes actually thrown the ball well and will add his athleticism to some things we want to get done. Grade B-.

    What's left for you guys?

Play spoiler and ruin some teams seasons and make them readjust their goals like we have had to do.

    Comments on defensive personnel?

Kevin Gibbs the true fr LB has played as well as Jelani and Jon that has been a huge surprise for us. Ronald Powell needs to get going I think we will move him back to LE and see if that helps. The secondary has to play better, Sr. Jeremy Brown was abused by Reuben Randle and he will have to compete to keep his spot.
