Giants stun Redskins at the Meadowlands

The 3-9 Giants winners of their last 2 games seemed to be rolling under new ownership and welcomed in the 2 time OMFL champs in Jeremy and his Redskins who were in a tight race for a wildcard spot sitting at 8-5. The Giants seemed to be outmatched from the start going 3 and out and then giving up an 73 yard TD pass to Steve Breaston. The Giants again stalled on offense managing just 1 completion and 1 first down in the entire 1st QTR. The Skins were unable to capitalize as Jason Campbell threw 2 1st QTR Int's near midfield but once again the Giants offense could not do anything with those oppourtunites.

After falling behind 14-0 at the start of the 2nd QTR the Giants were looking for a spark and Eli Manning provided the spark hitting 5 different recievers on the drive eventually hitting Barclay on a 22 yard TD pass, or was it? Barclay clearly appeared to be out of bounds but it was ruled a TD on the field and the Redskins did not challenge the play.

The Giants would get the ball back after a stand by the defense and it took 3 plays for Eli to hook up with Barclay again this time on a 79 yard strike and now a tie game at 14-14 with just over 2 minutes to go in the half.

The Giants would add a FG to go up 17-14 at the half and the 3rd Qtr is when the Giants decided it was time to get back to trying to run the football after Stewart had been shut down all game to that point. It paid off as Stewart gave the Giants a 10 point lead on a 20 yard TD run to make it 24-14 with 7 minutes left.

The Redskins would finally respond as Jason Campbell put together a few completions to Santana Moss and then the Giants got burned by Brian Westbrook on a 45 yard screen pass where the Gmen were totally out of position and a 24-21 game. The Redskins actually got the ball back after a 3 and out and a nice punt return setting the Skins up at the Giants 41 yard line. The Giants defense steps up again forcing a 3 and out after a Chris Canty sack out the Skins out of FG range with 3:40 left. The Giants converted 2 3rd and longs to finally run the clock out and none were bigger then a Manningham 23 yard catch.

    Key Stats:

    Eli Manning 14/27 255 yards 2 TD's 0 INT's
    Jonathan Stewart 25 car 106 yards 1 TD, 3 rec 42 yards
    Taurean Barclay 2 rec 101 yards 2 TD's

Great game Jeremy! It could have gone either way, your defense played very well as I knew i had to pass quickly or be sacked and your run D was exceptional. See you in 2 weeks
