The New York Giants were very active in free agency this season as they looked to get their roster and cap ready for the 2012 season. The biggest name on the list was OLB Brandon Johnson, formerly of the Super Bowl Champion Bengals. Johnson had 21 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception for the Bengals last season. "We are extremely excited to have Brandon coming to New York. We think he will fit in beautifully into our system and adds depth to our linebacker position. He will compliment Jones and Gocong very nicely." Johnson was one of 9 new free agents added to the New York roster. The others... CB Reggie JonesCB Michael AdamsDT Cedric ThorntonDE Jamaal AndersonRT Khalif BarnesWR Anthony GonzalezWR Johnnie Lee HigginsQB Scott Tolzien Tolzien was brought on as young talent who will fit well in the Giants depth chart. He has a strong, accurate arm and should develop nicely. Is this the answer the Giants have at QB? Well, according to the New York front office, no. New York, by cutting Eli Manning and others has found some pretty thick cushion in their cap room. What does this mean? Well with the HK Draft taking place tonight and free agency again still around the corner, there are some QBs out there, ready for the taking. We have all seen the draft prospects, but what about those who don't have an official contract left? The Buffalo Bills signed Eli Manning, so what do they do with Ryan Fitzpatrick? Sexy Rexy was signed by the Detroit Lions, is this the end of the Stafford era already? Houston decided to sign Vince Young, but with Schaub and Leinart on the roster, which gets cut? Troy Smith went to Cleveland, he really can't be taking Colt McCoy's job can he? I'd also make a fuss about the Falcons signing Hanie, but we know they won't be letting Ryan go. So all these teams here have gotten new QBs in there system's, but have starting caliber QBs already on their rosters. With this, the Giants are eager to see what can happen. However, these aren't the only quarterbacks that will be available for the Giants to spill their cap on. Restricted Free Agency opens after the draft and NY has their eyes fixed on that moment. Some notable QBs available, David Garrard, Kyle Orton, Jason Campbell, and of course, Drew Brees. New York did not give up a lot of cap in free agency, and even if they grab a QB in the early part of the draft, have plenty of cap room to strike for a big name QB. Could Big Blue be looking at taking Brees out of the Big Easy and bringing him to the Big Apple? Sounds like there could be a BIG acquisition on the horizon for New York.
