Pretty interesting ...... http://worldtruth.tv/russia-warns-obama-global-war-over-bee-apocalypse-coming-very-soon/
there are just people out there that claim monsanto ruins farmers lives. I don't have the facts about all of that so i can't argue about it.
Those are typically people that get busted for saving the seeds (which is illegal) so I don't see how that is monsantos fault. They invest billions in those genetics so it is their right.
You don't have to tell me man, I completely agree. I'm just saying people claim that monsanto tracks down farmers that have the trait in their crop due to natural cross pollination from field to field. I don't know the data/how many instances that has happened so I can't argue without the facts. Some people view that as patenting life, which is completely untrue. But that's what you get when people don't understand genetics and listen to greenpeace instead of peer-reviewed research papers. Monsanto is only doing what any company would do with their patent, defend it. A chemist at any university could likely synthesize the active ingredient in Lipitor (or any drug) in the lab and sell it. That would be patent infringement...which is exactly the same thing that farmers do when they try to take Monsanto seed without paying for it.
Well the GMO factoid in the article was in line with my thoughts on the subject and I couldn't help but think about the movie The Happening while reading. If you didn't see it, in a part of the movie it was said that basically the world would end shortly after bees die off..... Just a random article I came across and shared.
I may hVe can across a tad dickish-- it was definitely a good and interesting article. Thanks for sharing that. I agree we need to make sure we don't kill bees off- if that means changing the chemicals use in it so be it.
Read the above post. It's their fault because the crops are contaminating fields of farmers that don't want to use their seeds which forces them to either pay the licensing fees to Monsanto, or get rid of the crop, wait a couple years, then re-plant which we all know would destroy that farmer's livelihood.
"court only considered the GM canola in Schmeiser's 1998 fields, which Schmeiser had intentionally concentrated and planted from his 1997 harvest. Regarding his 1998 crop, Schmeiser did not put forward any defence of accidental contamination." he KNOWINGLY replanted the seed. Case closed.
http://www.monsanto.com/newsviews/Pages/percy-schmeiser.aspx "The truth is Percy Schmeiser is not a hero. He’s simply a patent infringer who knows how to tell a good story. Unlike his neighbors, and the vast majority of farmers who plant patented seeds, Schmeiser saved seed that contained Monsanto’s patented technology without a license. As indicated by the trial court in Canada, the seed was not blown in on the wind nor carried in by birds, and it didn’t spontaneously appear. Schmeiser knowingly planted this seed in his field without permission or license. By doing so, he used Monsanto’s patented technology without permission. In fact, the courts determined this in three separate decisions." Try again.
Around here at least, farmers replant every year. I don't really get that part of what you are saying. It's not like they use the seeds off of the current plant to plant next years crop (again, around here at least).
I believe they can save the seed if they want, but they have to pay the patent royalty if they do. So most just buy the seed again.
I was reading something that dude in the case was saying about if your crop is contaminated by the GMO crop then in order to insure that crops that come back aren't the GMO strain he'd have to remove the crops, wait two seasons, then re-plant./
No your post makes sense. However, the premise behind if your field can be cross-pollinated by a GMO crop, which you can google and see that it is possible for CERTAIN crops, that can fuck you as a non-GMO farmer. The guy lost the court case (not by much what was it 5-4 ruling?), but won by not having to pay legal fees, and making them have to eat their fees. I don't need the media to form an opinion. There is plenty of evidence out there to make people aware that GMOs are fucking shit up. Monsanto are a bunch of cock suckers that want to line their pockets, just like any business would for sure. They're in it for their own interests. Problem is, there's not enough research going into this, and the reports that are coming out about the crops, their effect on people, animals, and other crops is troubling.
What do you propose we do (besides labeling it). GMO's are crucial to our agronomics we use today- without it feeding the world likely isn't possible. I get that everyone thinks they are bad, but I just don't see the evidence. Am I biased? You could put it that way, but I see the BENEFITS of GMO crops everyday where I live. And the ragging on Monsanto is just a bunch of baloney- they do a ton of good for Agriculture.
As soon as I see a peer-reviewed scientific article that explains GMOs negatively affect humans, I will believe it. Until then, its just a bunch of pseudo-science that manipulates data to prove the anti-GMO point rather than focus on experimentation to find the TRUTH, not just what anti-GMO people WANT to see. The sterility argument so far is my favorite. My dad has eaten GMOs and So have I...I just had twins, there goes that "scientific" theory, lol.
Chipotle shares surging after the company announced they are increasing prices 3-5 percent to ensure they will not use GMOs
