As the University of Michigan unveiled its renoveated and expanded Big House to the rest of the college football country the football team unveiled very little at all to the 109,901 in attendance. The offense lacked continuity suffering from dropped passes by the wideouts, missed blocks by the offensive line and erratic throws by the quarterbacks. Coach Suge Knight has to get back to the drawing board quick if they are to right the ship and avoid being lapped by the field in the Big Ten.

Oh and BTW the defense was marginally better from a consistency perspective. Notre Dame hosts the Maize and Blue next week in South Bend.

After a close to helpless offensive performance last week at home against UConn, the Wolverines traveled to south Bend to take on rival Notre Dame. For all their lack of success in the season opener Michigan found plenty in this contest as the two teams combined for 70 first half points en route to 100 total points on the afternoon. Two quick turnovers to start the game lead to a Roy Roundtree 19 yard catch and score and a Junior Hemingway 21 yard end around in the first 48 seconds of play. Notre Dame then fired with a quick drive which ended on a Crist pass to Walker and a Denard Robinson fumble which was resulted in a scoop and score for E Johnson. A 19 yard Crist TD pass to Kamara was quickly followed by a 48 yard TD run on a Denard Robinson keeper to close out the opening quarter.

In the second quarter Crist showed his wheels on a 47 yard TD run of his own which he followed with an 11 yard toss to Allen putting the Irish up 35 to 21. Coach Suge Knight feeling a change was needed subbed in Tate Forcier at QB and moved starter Denard Robinson to the HB position. "When you need to overcome a sudden shift in momentum, especially ont he road, you have to get your best in position to make plays," Coach Knight stated after the game. And the Michigan players lead by Forcier found themselves in position to make all types of plays as they outscored the Irish 35 - 23 to close out the game. Forcier threw three touchdown passes of 79, 45 and 58 yards, the latter two going to Darryl Stonum. Robinson ended the day with 96 total yards and three total touchdowns. As for Crist he put up 478 total yards with 4 total TDs but also added 3 interceptions and the costly fumble as the Irish was driving in the end zone. Next week Michigan will play host Florida State at the Big House.
