I never said you can't discuss things, but I won't tolerate you in here trolling and insulting people.
Is there any chance that EA keeps the NCAA servers open for an extended period so we can keep playing?
Would have hoped, but cannot see this happening because the "damage" would continue. If it wasn't a term of settlement to shut it down (or shut down editable rosters) then the issue would be new damages flowing to support a new lawsuit. A release in a settlement is typically only good for any events or transgressions that have already occurred. Not those that may come in the future or continue into the future.
While I don't agree with the statement, I'm similar to you in the sense that 90% of my Madden gaming involved drafting classes and building a franchise with real draft players. It won't hurt Madden as pointed out, it'll likely strengthen their sales. Now I'll be forced to keep my 360 near when I upgrade to the Xbox One if I want to play some NCAA Football. Not only that, but if I still wanted to play with the import/export classes, I'll have to do it on a Madden that by nearly every account I've heard isn't their best.
The NCAA is ridiculous. http://kotaku.com/ea-sports-sued-by-a-desperate-ncaa-over-the-game-it-end-1470346523
Kasper...it has been for a long time....but wouldnt we all like to be in a business where you exploit all the workers for your own gain like universities do. And then be so fucking arrogant as to say we gave you a free education in return and actually be proud of what was "provided" .....Its on the same level as explorers coming over and trading beads to the natives for North America and claiming they gave em a great deal.....
I can honestly say that I have been playing NCAA since 05. I just started playing Madden about 2 years ago. In my NCAA dynasties I get around 20-30 seasons in. In my Madden franchise, maybe 2. 3 tops. I am keeping my 360 for the sole purpose of playing NCAA for years to come. When the new Madden comes out I'll get an xbox one. Back to my point...I plan on playing a lot more Madden when the new game comes out since there will be no NCAA. I see what fantasyboi is saying, but I am definitely an exception to that theory. I sure hope I don't have any typos in this post.
That is a pretty narrow point of view..... In the case of many of these big time universities, the value of the education in question is extraordinary. At Stanford for example, the scholarship value for one football player is over $70,000 per year. Additionally, of the universities in the country that play football and offer scholarships to do so, only a very small percentage actually make a profit on the sport, and of those, an even smaller percentage are on par with Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Dame, etc when it comes to those profits. In other words, the number of universities "exploiting" these athletes is minimal. Above and beyond the education provided to football players at these schools, they are given the training grounds necessary to become better players and be able to possibly play in the NFL. If these players don't want to be "exploited" by the universities they are free to go play in the CFL or in the Arena league right out of high school and be paid in money rather than in education. Of course if they go that route and fail to make it to the NFL they are in a far worse position than they would be had they gone to college for 4 years. My son is 11 years old right now and I am looking at the potential costs of college for him, which will almost certainly leave him with horrific student debts and I worry about his future. If anyone out there knows people in the college football world, please, please, please, exploit my kids to school for 4 or 5 years, i beg you. Now, in terms of revenue from video games and such, I would be all for the NCAA setting aside a portion of those revenues for student athletes that they can collect once they are done playing collegiately.
Also, we all pretty much are in businesses where workers are exploited for the gain of the corporate big wigs. Compare their pay to the pay of front line workers...... Fortune 500 companies make billions in profit but pay front line employees as little as possible, minimum wage in many cases. For a more specific example, my company makes billions and has about 60,000 employees. Their profit amounts to something like $50,000 per employee. They could easily afford to throw some of that our way, but they would rather pocket it and have private jets and millions of dollars in pay and bonuses for themselves..... Universities are far less exploitative than corporate america.
This talk of college football players not being paid is a very hot topic right now. As of today there are 22 high school football players already committed to Bama for 2014. 33 to Tennessee. 28 to the U. These are young men who know that they are only getting a measly free education ( most of them anyways), top notch training and pretty much every advantage one can have being a college athlete. Everything but spending cash. So if these helpless exploited players are being taken advantage of so badly, there is not a lack of interest. Not to mention these kids have the chance of a lifetime. One I dreamed about when I was a kid. These arent gladiators being forced to fight to the death or anything. Growing up my friends and I used to talk about how cool it would be to see ourselves in the NCAA football game. I don't remember any of us saying "wait, they don't get paid for that. No way should they be able to get away with using my likeness without paying me $200.00".
You hit the nail on the head. A free education and an internship with the potential to earn millions of dollars if you perform well during this "internship." Poor, exploited players. Every month I start to feel outraged at this terrible exploitation, but then I have to pay my student loan payments and the sympathy magically disappears
AHHH someone said student loans!...you are also being exploited. Do you realize how much $ they bring in cranking out worthless classes/degrees that will provide the degree holder with large debt and nothing educational worth a dam as far as making a living. Higher education is 90% a sham. In todays day and age...IDEAS are what you need to succeed! We are like sheep, we just do what we have all been told is the right way and elites get rich on the backs of its students. If universities were "pure" institutions of higher learning they wouldnt even have sports, one has absolutely nothing to do with the other. Lets see how many fans show up to a game with no players......or better yet, come work full time for my company, I will be happy to compensate you with some paid college courses....I will get over, you will get mudd for payment, and I can arrogantly view myself as a saint!
Yeah screw those Doctors going to medical school, and Engineers having to take tests and stuff before they build bridges, and pilots hell orvile and Wilbur did not have to go to pilot school. There are plenty of anecdotal stories of very successful people without college degrees but there are many more successful people that have college degrees. http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_increased_earnings_income_bachelors_masters_doctorate.htm
Well if everyone who paid hard earned $ to go to school, or paid for their education through a job (played sports for the school) came out a doctor, engineer or pilot....you would have something. The truth, not the years of brainwashing, is the vast majority come out with no degree, or a degree that wasnt worth anywhere near the price paid. Iam not anti education but Iam anti pharse/con man. Most just dont see the con because its all cloaked in ritual, tradition and most of all bull-shit.....Ive got a B.S. degree so its not like I never went through the experience, ive seen it first hand.
Listen man, I dont disagree that a lot of college is silly...... example: School Counselor: So what do you want to do after school? Student: I want to be a farmer, my family owns a farm and I want to be able to run it, help it grow and do everything as my parents get older. School Counselor: Great! We have an awesome agricultural program here, but first we need you to take french poetry, philosophy, criminal psychology, and film appreciation..... tuition is due on the 1st! Bu the reality is that the higher your level of collegiate education the more money you will make based on national averages. Many companies have defined pay raises for various levels of education built in already. So while I see the point that there is a lot of "noise" that goes along with a degree program, I also see that going through that process gives you more opportunities unless you are exceptionally innovative, uniquely skilled, etc. And lets face it, most of us, as smart and awesome as we are, will never be the dudes that turned an idea in our garage into a multimillion dollar company. You said earlier that I could come work for you and you would pay me in college courses. You have a deal if I get the same thing D1 athletes get, that is I get to take as many classes as I want for free, you buy my books, you pay my rent, you buy my food, I get free gear like sweats, shoes, hats, and stuff from our sponsors, and you aren't aloud to keep me at work (like practices and games) more than a certain number of hours per week and those max hours you get me for go down for 8 months out of the year..... oh, and I get to take a few months off every summer to do whatever I want. Hell, any 18 year old kid would be an idiot to not take that deal, these guys are just mad that they dont get to drive beamers right out the gate.
good points wyrmreaver...ALL education is valuable....thats the real point. Thats the main ruse used by higher education. Yes its of value, but when you rake in $$$$Billions on the backs of 18-22 year olds playing major sports, you need to share the profits fairly. Not give em some free classes that help prop up overpaid professors teaching basket weaving and techniques of track ( two actual classes from my era). The peeps who make more $ due to education are the ones that have work ethic and drive. The credit for their success is all theirs not some fucking piece of paper from a university.
Some of you may be forgetting that universities aim to make individuals well-rounded intellectuals. While I hated political science and ethics classes, they supplemented my otherwise very technical degree.
