    8. 1B Victor Bautista (Pittsburgh Pirates)
Pros: Power, Contact, Power, Cheap, Power, Good Intangibles, Power
    Cons: Glove, Baserunning
Notes: Could you tell this guy got picked for his power? He hits some absolute moonshots and he also projects to hit for a decent average. While he still has a little ways to go to get to the elite bat he projects to be, his defense and baserunning are huge causes for concern. He's an Adam Dunn/Mark Reynolds level butcher in the field and while his poor speed can be excused, his horrible baserunning fundamentals cannot. His really needs to develop in order to overcome the 1-2 WAR he'll lose with his poor performance in other aspects of the game.
    Grade: B

    9. 2B Devlyn Birch (Miami Marlins)
Pros: Projects to have a good bat for his position, good intangibles, solid (if unspectacular) in most aspects
Cons: Canadian, Noodle arm, No power, far away from contributing
Notes: It's all about projection with Birch. He's a worthless baseball player right now and he's a LOOOOONG way away from being able to contribute at the ML level, but he has all the tools you'd look for.
    Grade: C+

    10. 2B Rob Ames (Colorado Rockies)
Pros: Projects to have a good bat, plays solid defense, an absolutely elite baserunner
Cons: Strikes out a ton, $5.5M bonus, far away from contributing
Notes: Remember what I said about Birch? It goes double for Ames. He'd get eaten up by rookie ball pitching right now. The Rockies must be very patient with him or he won't ever get there. You can expect him to consistently steal 50+ bases if the manager lets him run free. There aren't a whole lot of guys in the game who can run like him.
    Grade: C+

    11. CF Daniel "Long Jim" Esquivel (Oakland Athletics)
Pros: Great (borderline elite) bat for his position, has an above average glove, runs well, Ks a lot
    Cons: $6.5M bonus, lazy motherfucker
Notes: He will play in the majors. The question with him is what type of impact he'll have when he gets there. His bat is already good enough to possibly see time on the end of a ML bench, but his eye is worrisome. The main problem with him is that he doesn't love the game. He could win MVP awards if he did. He has no desire to work hard, and its really a shame with all of the talent he has.
    Grade: C

    12. LF Andrew Vander Wal (NY Mets)
Pros: Projects to be a solid all-around hitter, elite speed, good defense, team leader
Cons: Long way away from the bigs, he might be anorexic (6'5" ,160lbs!), dumb
Notes: His power projection is all about his frame being able to support more weight. And damnit, he needs to eat so his parents aren't going to jail for having a malnourished child. He has high bust potential because he's not really smart enough to grasp the concepts. If he hits, he won't ever be a truly elite LF (think Drew Stubbs), but he can be productive.
    Grade: C-

    13. MR Lucas Giolito (Chicago White Sox)
Pros: Velocity, stuff, multiple plus-plus pitches, work ethic
Cons: $6.5M, very young (and far from contributing), may be HR prone
Notes: This guy can be an absolute steal for the White Sox. His fastball and his hook project to be absolutely elite. He projects to have elite stuff and if he reaches only half of his potential, he can put up 9 K/9. He's a risk because of his youth, but the upside is so high, that I have no idea how he fell this far.
    Grade: A-

    14. SP Mark Appel (Cincinnati Reds)
Pros: 3 solid pitches, solid stuff, movement, and control
Cons: $8M bonus (highest required in the draft)
Notes: I like this pick too. He's solid all the way around, even if nothing by itself that he does will wow you. He's probably a good pick to be a good #2 starter at the ML level, and its certainly possible that he could develop into a middle tier #1 starter. But with his huge bonus demands, could the Reds have done better to go a little cheaper here and maybe take a few more overslot guys later?
    Grade: B-
