This is where we're going to keep record of all the Championships won in HAW. This way, if the league lasts through Madden 16 and on we can always come back and see where it all began! As the thread gets bigger, I'll come back and post links for each summary of the HAW Championships.

Hey Moz, just so ya know I'll probably work on the SB2 video package Saturday. I'm just downloading the broadcast now but probably won't get to it until after work Saturday afternoon. Just in case you have free time and want to have the rest worked, we could maybe have it up Saturday or Sunday!

Neither team did a summary, and they advanced too quick on dl so it shows no stats. This one is just gonna be teams score and video it seems.

I plan to do a write-up on Saturday... but I won't cover the last several minutes. Some things just need to be watched.

Sady the stats are mostly borked, as we had to restart & recreate the score ~midway through the 2nd quarter. But I can approximate game stats as Hordan has the first part up to the disconnect archived as well.

    Super Bowl II
Detroit Lions def. New England Patriots 35-31

Some things need to be seen to truly appreciate them, and in that vein I will not post a complete write-up here. The last ~4 minutes are worth a watch. As for what led up to those final few minutes...

The Lions kicked off to the Pats and started off strong: a run stuff, a WR screen snuff, and a dropped INT to force a quick 3-and-out. The Patriots followed up this defensive stand with a couple big plays of their own, quickly putting the Lions in 3rd-and-13 backed up at their own 11. Stafford hit Calvin Johnson for the first, and two plays later found themselves right back in 3rd-and-14. This time it was Ebron for another 1st. After that, the run game started to click and the Lions scored to go up 7-0.

The Pats stormed right back with a big gain by Rob Gronkowski and a few successful running plays, driving all the way down to 1st & Goal on the Lions' 9. But a broken play-action and a failed toss play left them on the 13, and they would have to settle for a FG.

Detroit came out aggressive. Two key runs by Ronnie Hillman and another big gain by Denard Robinson kept the defense on its heels, and Stafford was able to use the play action game to move the ball downfield, ultimately scoring on an inside run by Marion Hardy.

Tom Brady again moved the ball, picking up multiple first downs on the ensuing drive on quick passes. But as they approached the red zone, CB Darius Slay jumped in front of a long pass intended for Gronkowski and picked off Brady's pass, preventing the score. Now, up 14-3 with the ball and a little over 3 minutes remaining in the first half (plus receiving the 2nd half kickoff), Detroit looked like it may run away with the game--but that was not to be. A couple of plays later, pressing to gain the 3-score lead, Stafford forced a throw on an out route which CB Logan Ryan jumped and returned 38 yards for the TD. Despite having dominated the game to that point, the score was suddenly just 14-10 with 1:53 remaining at the half.

Again the Lions had the ball, and again they pressed for a 2-minute-drill TD, driving all the way to the New England 33 yard line. Stafford again tested a DB on an out route on the other side, but Duron Harmon made a spectacular read and, just 70 seconds after Ryan's return, intercepted Stafford and took it 67 yards to the house. Pats lead for the first time all day, 17-14 as the game reaches halftime.

The Lions began the 2nd half with the ball and quickly found themselves in 3rd-and-3. Stafford caught the Pats in Cover 0 on a pass play which Ebron took 47 yards for the TD. Lions retake the lead 21-17. After forcing a NE punt, Detroit yet again marched downfield, finding themselves with 1st & goal on the 3. It looked like they had put the two crucial INT-TDs behind them and were about to once again pull out ahead into a two score lead. And then, a blink of an eye later, Stafford made his 3rd (and final) crucial mistake, throwing an INT in the endzone. Patriots D once again keeps the game from getting out of hand.

And just when they needed it most, New England's offense started to figure out the Lions D, marching the full length of the field for a TD to take the 24-21 lead early in the 4th. Detroit couldn't answer, as they were forced to punt the ball back to the Patriots with a little over 8 minutes remaining in the game. But again, the Detroit defense was able to get New England into a 3rd-and-long, and again NE was forced to punt. The Lions got the ball back, but after a first down sack and a second down near-sack, they found themselves in 3rd & 18 with 6:17 remaining, down 21-24. So began Calvin's legendary heroics, as Stafford saw NE was sitting in Cover 3 and the deep middle S was playing too far up to help on Calvin's fly route. He was able to haul in a jump ball on New England's 12 yard line, and a few players later Hillman ran it in for the TD. Detroit ahead 28-24 with 4 minutes to go.

But the Pats had figured out how to move the ball consistently by this point. With 3 TOs remaining, they were able to use their entire playbook. Brady completed a huge 3rd-and-4 to Amendola. Ridley ran for 10 yards on 1st down. Edleman caught another 3rd-and-5 underneath the Lions' previously suffocating defense. The Pats found themselves with 1st & 10 and 1:38 remaining on Detriot's 28 yard line, needing a TD to win. But on 2nd down, Brady tried to force a pass to Gronk on a skinny post, and Chris Houston was there for the pick. The Lions would get the ball with 1:30 remaining and the 28-24 lead! Surely this was the end of the game!

And from there, you just need to watch. Words can't do the finale justice.

Skip to 1:06:19 to begin watching at the point of the Chris Houston INT. It's worth it:

Final stats for Detroit (these are the actual stats, as we got disconnected midway thru the 2nd and had to recreate, so the box score is not correct):

QB Matt Stafford: 23-34, 359 yds, 3 TD 3 INT

RB Ronnie Hillman: 14 car, 86 yds, TD
RB Denard Robinson: 4 car, 26 yds, TD
RB Joique Bell: 4 car, 12 yds
RB Marion Hardy: 3 car, 5 yds, TD
Lions RBs Total: 25 car, 129 yds, 2 TD

WR Calvin Johnson: 7 rec, 183 yds TD
TE Eric Ebron: 5 rec, 111 yds, TD
HB Ronnie Hillman: 5 rec, 33 yds
WR Golden Tate: 3 rec, 15 yds, TD
WR Cecil Shorts: 3 rec, 17 yds

    INTs:
    CB Darius Slay
    CB Chris Houston
    CB Laterrius Walters

It was the most epic finale of any sports game I've ever played. Like Hordan54 said after the game, truly either team could have won at multiple points throughout the 4th quarter. The entire game came down to a single toss-up in the back of the endzone, the best WR in the NFL mano y mano against the best CB in the NFL with a SB at stake. Doesn't get better than that.
