Player of the game honors go to Shaun Draughn. Draughn finished the day with 96 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. He also added a 42 yard touchdown reception on a screen pass from Tyler Yates.

Yates went 18 of 28 for 289 yards and 3 touchdowns. The top receiver for the Heels was Senior wide receiver Greg Little. Little hauled in 6 passes for 159 yards and a score. The bulk of the yardage came on an 84 yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Mike Paulus, who was in the game while Yates was sideline due to injury.

Next week the Tar Heels head north to upstate New York to take the Syracuse Orange and freshman quarterback Pat Patterson.

    Week 2

    North Carolina 31 Syracuse 0

A two headed running attack and a stingy, physical defense was to much for the Syracuse Orange on Saturday as the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Syracuse Orange by a score of 31-0.

Player of the game honors went to Tar Heel running back Shaun Draughn. Draughn finished the game with 84 yards on 20 attempts and a touchdown. Freshman running back Hunter Furr added 65 yards on just 14 attempts. Furr also added a score.

Senior Tight End Zack Pianalto also added 6 catches for 98 yards.

The Tar Heel defense was all over freshman quarterback Pat Patterson, finishing the game with 7 sacks. Juniors Michael McAdoo and Tydreke Powell each finished with two sacks.

Next week the Heels will take on South Florida in what should be a battle of top ten teams.

This game was closer then the score indicated. Tyler Yates could get nothing going. Yates finished the game going 14-33 for 182 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions. Greg Little added to the Tar Heel miscues with 4 drops. On offense the loan bright spot were the running back Hunter Furr and Shaun Draughn. Each player ran for 85 yards.

The defense was forced to stop the triple option attack of the Bulls. The leading tackler for the Heels was safety D. Searcy. Searcy finished the game with 12 tackles, 7 for loss and 1 sack.

This was a very weird game. I have never played a computer team that came out and ran nothing but option.

Next week the Heels host the rival Wolfpac from North Carolina State.

The number 2 ranked North Carolina Tar Heels pulled off a victory over the struggling Seminols from Florida State. Tar Heel quarterback Tyler Yates went 15-27 for 208 yards and a touchdown. The ground game carried the Heels as they finished the afternoon with 214 yards on 44 carries for an average of 4.8 yards a carry.

Freshman running back Hunter Furr took a Wildcat handoff from fellow running back Shaun Draughn and scampered 55 yards on the first play from scrimmage to get the running started.

The defense was lead by stand out saftey Danorris Searcy. He finished the game with 9 tackles, 4 for a loss and a sack. Middle linebacker Quan Sturdivant added 9 tackles as well.

Next week the Tar Heels will take on the triple option attack of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in a game that could go a long way in settling the ACC Coastal division crown.

The North Carolina stole the show in this game. The Heels intercepted Va Tech QB Tyrod Taylor 5 times in the first 9 minutes of the game. Everytime Taylor dropped back he had a Tar Heel in his face.

The offense was lead by a 3 headed ground attack. The 3 running backs combine for 179 yards on 42 carries for an average of 4.2 yards a carry. Overall the Heels marched on to victory and at no point were the Hokies in this ball game.

In what could have a chance to be the game of the year, the North Carolina Tar Heels stole a 49-45 victory from the Wahoos from Virginia. Greg Little scored on a 33 yard TD pass from TJ Yates with 14 seconds to go to give the Heels the lead for good. With 3:48 left in the 3rd quarter the Wahoos were leading the Heels by 18 points and had the momentum. Yates rallied the troops and lead a furious comeback.

Punt return Charles Brown gave the Heels 41-38 lead with an 83 yard punt return TD with 2:48 to go in the game. The Wahoos marched down the field and scored a 12 yard TD to take the lead with 50 seconds remaining.

Enter Little. What followed next can only be discribed as anarchy. Yates lead the Tar Heels down the field for the winning score and avoided losing their number 1 ranking for now. Next week the Tar Heels travel to "Da U" to take on the Hurricaine from Miami.
