    Houston Football - Season Preview

    Where's the beef?

Coach BigBear will have his work cut out for him. The eccentric coach comes to the Cougars with a defensive pedegree. An odd choice many say for the offensively talented Cougars.

There is no question that the Cougars will require a big year from Heisman candidate Case Keenum. The star QB looks to go out in a flash and to attract the attention of pro-scouts.

However, that is not the topic that is on coach BigBear's mind. He has brought in a confident and savy staff that will ensure the Houston offense measures up.

"This team needs to step up on defense" says BigBear. "I don't care what people say about the talent level - they say it's thinner than 50 cent hamburger... but that doesn't bother me, we can only improve."

Brave words, but coach BigBear must be worried about the way his defensive hamburger stacks up. There is very little meat up the middle. Apart from promising sophmore Phillip Steward at LOLB, the linebacking corps looks sparse. The news does not get better on the defensive line.

Coach BigBear will hit the recruiting trail hard and will be focused on defense. He cannot afford to be too short sighted, after all the senior Case Keenum won't be around next year and the cupboard looks a little bare for a suitable replacement.

Still the woes of the defense may be what holds the Cougars back from sticking in their precipitous rank as the #25 team in the nation. Many may be asking: "Where's the Beef?"

    still... fans are excited...
