I have an old version, which I bought before Sony released the slim version and I'm sh!t afraid to potentially ruin the only thing that guaranteed keeps me calm on a day to day basis...

I'm with you Cimmy. Don't want to risk it either...

Needless to say, my game with Droweezy (Cincy) may be postponed. (n)

gaddy if you were able to connect you should be good. If your L01 or P01 your system is fine. My fat boy lives.

Following Sony's orders on this one. No starty up PS3 for now. So I'm out of commission right now as well.

Hope their "fix" isn't to buy a new PS3 slim. Otherwise, I may be done since I really can't wing a new system right now at all.

From chat with stang on ICQ, check your serial number on the back and if it ends with the affected codes, you apparently have the bug

    CECHA01 - affected
    CECHE01 - affected
    CECHG01 - affected
    CECHH01 - affected
    CECHK01 - affected
    CECHL01 - not affected
    CECHP01 - not affected

SONY HAS ADVISED THAT IF YOU ARE AFFECTED BY THIS BUG, DO NOT TURN ON YOUR PS IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.

Though some digging i have found thay Sony has dianosed the problem and a fix will be finalized in the next 24 hours. I think they are waiting for 12:01 AM to see if the clock will go to the next day. I have also heard that this is going to be a recall fix... i pray not

    oh yeah, i AM affected

lol....Mine is definitely the one with A in it. I have a launch PS3 so I am 100% sure it's affected. Half tempted to take out the battery which runs the internal clock and see if that will help. Unfortunately, I have a game in the system, which means i'd have to start it up to get the game out...what a wonderful predicament.

unplug your wireless or ethernet chord, would that work long enough to take the game out?

From mtv.com of all sites, seemed to have to most current explaination.

As I reported earlier today, PS3s around the globe are having serious problems, and it seems Sony has figured out the issue and will issue a fix in the next 24 hours. Here are some of the symptoms to determine if you're stricken with the bug, which apparently is due to some internal clock issues:

The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.

When the user tries to sign in to the PlayStation Network, the following
message appears on the screen; "An error has occurred. You have been
signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)".

When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears
on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; "Failed to install
    trophies. Please exit your game."

When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the
Internet, the following message appears on the screen; "The current date
and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)"

Users are not able to play back certain rental video downloaded from the
PlayStation Store before the expiration date.

Important to note that PS3 Slims are immune to the bug, so no need to fret if that's your set-up. For everyone else with a PS3 Fat, Sony is recommending that users not turn the system on until the issue is fixed, as it may cause more problems to arise. They've stated that a fix is coming in the next 24 hours.

So far the only problem I have with the "next 24 hours" is I don't know when the 24 hours started! Is it from when I read the article? (joke) I am looking as well, but if anyone has an idea of the "when" of the "24 hours" I would feel better.

I have read that it has something to do with GMT (which is apparently what the Sony battery powered clock uses to keep time) and that Sony is hoping that with the flip of the day everything will go back to normal if it's a calendar issue.

Just frustrating right now, as I'm sure it is for everyone that has one.

A little more.... i have read if you try and load a game on an affect ps3, it will corrupt the trophy data and right now, it seems you will lose it. If you care about what trophies you have, dont turn it on!

*update* From what i understand, when you look at your trophies, the reason it takes so long to load them is because it is "syncing" what you have to the network. Reading between the lines i think if you have synced recently, they should be fine.
