The Youth Movement Continues in Indy

After a dissappointing end to the 2013 season, the Colts come back in the 2015 season revamped and ready to improve on a season that saw them go 14-2 only to lose in the divisional round to the eventual champion Ravens. The front office feels the teams is vastly improved from their 2013 season and are expecting big things from this team despite the fact they're entering the season with 21 out of 22 starters under the age of 30. Gone are the familiar faces of Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis who have both retired so the team is hoping 4th year QB Andrew Luck will step up and assume the leadership role along with veteran safety Antoine Bethea.

    Quarterback - Andrew Luck(90) & Mark Sanchez(75)
Luck is the unquestioned starter and is looking to improve from the 2013 season where he made the probowl and mostly managed the game to limit turnovers. More of a burden will be placed on Luck this season to make plays with the passing game in case teams try to focus on 2013 MVP Bernard Pierce. Mark Sanchez was signed in free agency to provide a solid veteran backup.

    Running Back - Bernard Pierce(87), Freddie Barclay(71), Telvin Barr(67)
2013 MVP and OPOY Bernard Pierce returns as the lead back looking to improve on an amazing season. Pierce comes back much improved with higher CAR and ELU ratings but also higher CTH ratings as the team plans to use him more in the passing game. Barclay was drafted in the bottom of the 3rd rd of the 2014 draft to spell Pierce and to provide explosiveness. Barr will most likely be a special teams player but could see spot duty.

    Wide Receiver - Denarius Moore(86), DHB (84), TY Hilton(79), TJ Graham(74), Donald Jones(74)
The WR corps led by big free agent aquisition Denarius Moore will look to provide explosive plays in the passing game for Luck. With each WR possessing 95+ speed with the exception of Jones, the Colts will look to make defenses pay if they decide to put 8 in the box to stop Pierce.

    Tight End - Cody Fleener(86), Dwayne Allen(84), Nelson Rosario(74)
Cody Fleener returns as the main target at tight end and Luck's safety valve whenever he gets in trouble. Fleener will look to have a breakout year due to the attention placed on Pierce and the wideouts. Allen is more of a blocker and will be used to seal the edge in 2 TE sets but is also a more than capable receiver, just lacks speed. Rosario will be called upon in in spot duty as a receiving TE and could possibly supplant Allen if he plays well.

    Left Tackle - Anthony Castanzo(85)
Castanzo is once again given the job of protecting Luck's blindside. Castanzo did a great job in 2013 and is looking to even do better as he has gotten stronger and quicker to counter speed rushers as well as power rushers.

    Left Guard - Antoine Caldwell(89), Lucas Nix(81), Tramon Hooks(78)
Caldwell enters the season as the unquestioned starter but he is definitely being pushed by Nix and Hooks. Nix was signed in the offseason to provide depth but when the front office saw Hooks was available with 1 of their 3rd rd picks they had to take him and have impressed at his ratings. Hooks has a chance to take over the starting job sooner than later.

    Center - Samson Satele(80), Khaled Holmes(74)
Although Satele is rated higher, Holmes enters the season as the starter but nothing is guaranteed beyond that point. With so much depth on the offensive line, the coaching staff may shuffle some people around to put the best 5 blockers on the field at all times regardless of position.

    Right Guard - Hugh Thornton(80), Greg Guthe(77), Vintize Green(75)
Thornton has the job for now but 3rd rd pick Greg Guthe is definitely pushing him in practice. After being selected in the 3rd rd, Guthe has come into camp focused and determined on gaining that starting position. Green will provide depth while he works on his RBK.

    Right Tackle - Ben Ijalana(80)
Ijalana comes into his 2nd season as the start and has progressed very well from 2 years ago. The front office is hoping Ijalana will continue to progress as he notices all the competition along the front line but have confidence he will maintain the job.

Left Defensive End - Kendall Reyes(86), Loren Dickerson(74), Ricardo Matthews(71)
Reyes was the big move a couple offseasons ago and will man the starting spot. His combination of speed and power should provide an upgrade in both the run and passing games. Dickerson was another pick from the 2014 draft who will provide depth for now but could see time on the field very very soon.

    Defensive Tackle - BJ Raji(85), Mike Tavaseu(72)
Raji continues to hold down the middle. His versatility to be a run stopper as well as a pass rusher will once again help the front 7 as he draws double teams. Tavaseu provides depth but also has the ability to step in due to an injury.

Right Defensive End - Lawrence Guy(82), Roy Miller(78), Ricky Jean-Francois(77)
The surprise from a couple seasons ago, Guy enters the season with a strangehold on the starting position. He has gotten much stronger since the 2013 season and should be able to get off blocks much easier. Miller was brought in during free agency to provide depth and RJF is possibly on his way out, as his contract is not suitable for a backup.

    LOLB - Koa Misi(84), Sergio Kindle(78)
Misi is your prototypical 3 down LB that can play the pass as well as the run. He will often be given the task of defending these athletic tight ends and we feel he is up to the job. Kindle will come in on some obvious passing downs as his pass rushing ability cannot be denied.

    Middle Linebacker - Jarell Freeman(78), Kavell Connor(75), Kelvin Sheppard(73)
Freeman took over the Strongside ILB spot after the departure of Pat Angerer and produced a probowl worthy season in 2014. His speed and coverage ability at the LB spot is great. Connor will man the Weakside ILB spot but may split duty with Sheppard depending on how he holds up.

    ROLB - Bjern Werner(86)
Werner switches back to ROLB with the retirement of Robert Mathis. Werner starting to really come on late in the 2013 season and built upon that success with a solid 2014 season. The Colts will be looking to him to take an even bigger step as they are expecting 10+ sacks from him.

    Cornerback - Vontae Davis(93), Greg Toler(83), Jontize Green(82), Cortez Allen(81), Tremaine Brock(77), Cassius Vaugh(77), Terry Hawthorne(72)
By far the Colts deepest position, the CB position is lead by pro bowler Vontae Davis who will draw the #1 receiver. The #2 spot will be manned by Green who was signed as a FA after the 2013 season and his size and speed will prevent problems for #2 receivers. Allen comes in as the nickel and was signed in the 2014 offseason. Like Green, Allen's size should overwhelm the usually smaller slot wr's. The 4th and 5th spots are up for grabs as of now but Brock and Vaughn will most likely end up with those spots with Toler or Hawthorne probably getting cut.

    Free Safety - Taylor Mays(78)
Mays takes over for the departed Laron Landry and the Colts will look to him to provide big plays as the last line of defense.

    Strong Safety - Antoine Bethea(97), Marcus Gilchrist(78), Joe Lefeged(76)
Bethea comes in as the only starter on the entire team over 30 years old. His veteran leadership and calming presence will be welcomed on such a young team and we hope he can continue his stellar play. Gilchrist and Lefeged will backup both Bethea and Mays and may see some time in Dime and Quarter situations

    Kicker - Connor Barth(79)
Barth takes over for HOFer Adam Vinatieri. Not an easy task but we feel he can handle the job.

    Shawn Powell -(66)
Pat Mcafee wanted 18M so the front office made an easy decision and let him go a couple seasons ago. Powell may not have the leg or accuracy of Mcafee but he is more than servicable.

Kick Returner & Punt Returner - TY Hilton & Cassius Vaughn
Thanks to the signing of Denarius Moore, Hilton can now focus more on the return game as he will be given the job of our #1 return man. His speed and agility should make for big plays and short fields for our offense. Vaughn will step in as the key return man if Hilton struggles.
