Texas Picks Up 3 Commitments in Week 1

    2 :5stars: Choose Texas

Austin, TX- 3 Players jumped at the chance to play football for the Texas Longhorns, and 2 of them have the chance to be immediate contributors.

The lowest ranked player is :4stars: #8 ranked WR Maurice Robertson. Robertson has some intriguing physical skills, namely his B+ speed and 6’7” 200 pound frame. Robertson may have the chance to contribute right away because of the lack of depth at WR on the Texas roster, but may redshirt to give him time to adjust to the college game.

The second player to commit was :5stars: and #5 tackle Craig Williams.
Williams is a bit undersized for the offensive line, but makes up for it with solid fundamentals and strength. Williams has a chance to see the field a lot next season, and the Texas coaches think he has the potential to be an impact player at the tackle position in the next few years.

The third player to commit was :5stars: #1 Athlete Will Breedlove. Breedlove is an interesting player, but projects to the corner position in college. He has good size for the position at 6’2 190. He also brings good speed (A-) and great man and zone cover skills (B+ on both.) Breedlove will have the chance to see the field next season, both on special teams as well as on defense.

The three commits come from Texas or neighboring states. Maurice Robertson is from Slidell High School in Slidell, LA. Craig Williams will be joining Texas from Ardmore High in Ardmore, OK. Will Breedlove is the only player to commit from inside Texas, and he is from Athens, TX.

Texas still has 9 scholarships to hand out this season. They are expected to concentrate on the offensive and defensive lines.

    Texas Gets 4th Oral Commitment

    Ron Mayfield Chooses Texas

Palestine, TX- Ron Mayfield the (#8) DT in the class chose to play his college football at Texas. Mayfield says he chose Texas because he wanted to stay close to home.

Mayfield is a :4stars: recruit who comes in at 6’6†271 pounds. Coach Bulgy says he hopes the long frame will help make it tougher on passing teams.

While his height makes it easier for him to fill passing windows his strength and block shedding ability will help the Longhorns in the run game. Mayfield brings B+ strength and B block shedding in immediately and a B tackle rating.
Mayfield’s commitment gives Texas 3 commitments inside the Russell Athletic Top 100.

    Texas Secures #5

    Stanford Jackson Headed to Austin

Denham Springs, LA- :3stars: DT Stanford Jackson held a press conference on Friday to announce his commitment to Texas.

Jackson is a 6’3†278 pound DT who has great strength for an incoming freshman. Texas needed to shore up their defensive line, and with their last 2 commitments they have done just that. Ron Mayfield a :4stars: DT committed a few weeks ago, and Jackson gives Texas a second DT commitment.

Jackson comes in with A- strength, B- power move, B- block shedding, C+ pursuit and B hit power. He figures to redshirt next season, before having a chance to compete for playing time.

The next few weeks are critical for Texas’ in-season recruiting, all of their targets will be in Austin for the game against the Mizzou Tigers. But 2 prospects, :4stars: CB Adam Lindsey and :4stars: tackle will be visiting Penn State and Cincinnati next week. Coach Bulgy likes their chances if neither player commits next week.

Texas figures to have a highly ranked class when the rankings come out in the next few weeks.

    Texas Adds Another Commitment

    Adam Lindsey Chooses Longhorns

Austin, TX- Adam Lindsey a :4stars: #2 CB according to Russell and a :5stars: #2 CB according to JMO has chosen to join the Texas Longhorns.

Lindsey brings great speed and average size to the position, and gives Texas a player who can mature into a lockdown corner. Texas is deep at CB so it is hard to envision when he will see the field, but he will have a chance to get on the field as a true freshman according to head coach Bulgy. He is a good man coverage corner now, and plays well in zone coverage as well.

He was scheduled to make an official visit to see Coach Dru and the Penn State Nittany Lions, but it appears that may not happen.
Lindsey gives Texas 6 commitments for this season, and their class is now half full (or maybe it’s half empty, I’m not sure). They are currently ranked #1 in the nation, but that is largely based on the number of recruits Texas has signed. Lindsey is the 4th Texas commitment that is in the Russell Athletic top 100.

Texas Secures Commits from 3 Players

    2 More :5stars: Join Texas

Austin, TX- Coach Bulgy announced the oral commitments of 3 more players Friday night in his weekly press conference. Michael Howell, Tom Tucker, and Alan Ware all gave a pledge to become Texas Longhorns next season.

Alan Ware is a :4stars: WR from Meraux, LA. He is 6’2 195 and chose Texas over offers from Michigan, and Texas A&M. Ware has B+ speed and C+ route running, but he has a great ability to make the circus catch B+. Ware may redshirt, or he may get a chance to play next season.

Michael Howell is a 6’7 300 guard from Clute, TX. He is rated :5stars: and the #2 G in the country. Howell has a solid skill set to build on, he carries at least a B- on all his blocking ratings. Howell chose Texas over instate rivals Texas Tech and Texas A&M as well as Nebraska.

Tom Tucker is the crown jewel so far in Coach Bulgy’s first class at Texas. He plays free safety in HS, but Coach Bulgy is exploring the idea of making him an outside linebacker. Tucker is from Pinellas Park, FL, and will bring B+ speed, B tackle, B- on both coverage skills, A- hit power, and B- block shedding. If Tucker stays at free safety he may play right away, but if he changes positions look for him to get a redshirt year.

    Texas Pulls In Another

    :4stars: Athlete Chooses Austin

Watauga, TX- Dustin Moore announced at a press conference Sat. that he will be joining the Texas Longhorns next season.

Moore is a player who doesn’t yet have a position at the next level, but will be on the offensive or defensive line. He is 6’6 333 and comes in with B grades on both blocking skills, and a B- strength rating. Moore is the 3rd offensive lineman Texas has signed this season. With :5stars: guard Michael Howell and :5stars: tackle Craig Williams already locked down at their respective positions Moore figures strongly to be a center prospect.

Texas is still after a kicker to take the place of Justin Tucker, but they may not sign one until the offseason.
