The #18 Iowa Hawkeyes come away with a close win on saturday against the Michigan Wolverines. The game was evenly matched and was very close goin into the second half. The Hawkeyes jumped to a 20-7 lead late in the fourth quarter, looking to send the Wolverines packing. The wolverines had other ideas as they came back scoring quick two TD's to come within 6. The Hawks were able to drive down the field, draining Michigan's remaining timeouts and seal the victory.

The Hawks played phenomenal defense, only allowing 151 total yards, 27 coming on the ground. The Hawks attribute the win to the defense ability to shut down the run, forcing Forcier to pass.

The Hawks offense played well with 332 total yards with 181 coming on the ground. Four running backs totaling 40 carries, with the leader being RSFR Adam Robinson. RSJR QB Ricki Stanzi threw 30 passes with only 13 attempts only tallying 135 yards. There was not a significant standout in the game but was rather a team effort.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (7-1,3-1) scored 28 points in the first half jump starting them to a sizeable lead over Wisconsin (3-4,1-3). Once again the Iowa defense and offense performed well and it was a fairly clean game with only 2 turnovers combined the entire game.

The Hawkeyes rushed for 203 yards once again by committee with the front runner being RSFR #44 Jeff Brinson, the fourth string runningback. Brinson got 22 carries and tallied 117 yards with 1 TD in the second half. Junior Quarterback Ricki Stanzi threw only 13 times while completing 10 for 144 yards, connecting with Marvin McNutt and Brett Morse for TD's.

Iowa's defense held the heavy rush attack of Wisconsin and John Clay to only 45 total yards. The Hawkeye secondary was challenged and they produced a mediocre performance allowing 263 yards in the air. MLB Pat Angerer led in tackles once again and Binns and Clayborn both had one sack.

The Hawks now travel to Michigan State to continue their streak of Big Ten play against the Spartans (5-2,2-2). Michigan State is looking to get over the hmp and become bowl eligible with a 6th win. The Hawkeyes are looking to win out and get into the Capitol One Bowl.

#18 HAWKS IMPROVE TO 7-1 DEFEATING SPARTANS 24-3

The Iowa Hawkeyes got back on track, absolutely dominating the Michigan State Spartans in every category. The Hawks now improve to 7-1 and look forward to Indiana next week in a big game in Iowa City at Kinnick Stadium.

The Hawkeyes defense gave up 160 total yards in the contest with 22 yards being on the ground. Iowa's defense wasn't able to force any turnovers ut dominated the offensive front of Michigan State getting to the Quarterback 5 times.

Iowa's offense looked sharp once again with a more balanced approach with 159 yards on the ground and 249 in the air. JR Quarterback Ricki Stanzi threw for 236 yards on 15 completions with 3 TD's, connecting all three with RSSR TE Toni Moeaki. The rush attack was no suprise, by committee between three freshmen runningbacks, Robinson, Wegher, and Brinson. Robinson led the crew in carries with 13 and with 67 yards.

The Hawkeyes will now travel back home to Iowa City to face Indiana who is already bowl eligible with 6 wins. The Iowa Hawkeyes (8-1,4-1) were just too much for the Indiana Hoosiers this saturday. The Hawks outscored Indiana by 37 points and jumped to a 28 point lead early in the game. Without Chapple, Indiana struggled on offense.

The Hawkeyes defense showed why they are in the top 10 in rush defense as they held indiana to -35 yards rushing. Iowa's four man defensive front is one of the best in the Big 10 combining for 24 tackles, 13 TFL, and 5 sacks.

The Hawkeyes offense havent changed a thing since week one and have stayed on course with a run by committee. The trio of freshmen runningback totaled for 219 yards rushing, led by Adam Robinson who had 10 carries with 96 yards and two TD's.

The Hawkeyes have another home game against the Northwestern Wildcats next week. Northwestern is struggling to get bowl eligible as we now get towards the end of the season. With Penn State Losing to Michigan, Iowa's biggest test will be the following two games in columbus against Terrelle Pryor and the #18 Ohio State Buckeyes and against a very talented #11 Minnesota team at home final game of the year.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (9-1,5-1) continued to dominate in the Big 10, holding the Northwestern Wildcats (4-6,1-5) to zero points. The Hawkeyes still need some help to have a chance at the Big 10 Championship but still need to take care of business. Northwestern is still seeking to be bowl eligible and needs just two wins to get there.

The Hawkeyes defense held Northwestern to 208 total yards offense. The stellar four man defensive front held NU to an amazing zero yards of rushing.

Iowa's offense gave a balanced attack with 161 yards on the ground and 155 in the air totaling 316 total yards. Four Iowa running backs took snaps in the backfield with 3rd string running back RSFR Jeff Brinson leading the way with 17 carries for 66 yards.

The Hawkeyes will round up the season with two huge games in Columbus against the #18 Ohio State Buckeyes and week 12 in Iowa City against the #11 Minnesota Gophers. The Hawks will need to win these games to be BCS bound and get a bowl bid to the Rose Bowl.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (10-1,6-1) got to an early lead on the #14 Ohio State Buckeyes (8-3,4-3). RSSR MLB Pat Angerer intercepted the first play of the game from Terrelle Pryor, setting up Iowa for a quick 7 points. This set the tone for the game and quieted the crowd in columbus.

The Hawks offense was led by tough, hard running. RSFR HB Adam Robinson was knocked out with a dislocated shoulder after gettin only 10 carries. The Hawks looked towards Freshmen Brandon Wegher and Jeff Brinson. Both players received 13 carries but Wegher put together a solid game with 98 yards rushing with 1 TD. RSSJR Ricki Stanzi connected with Derrell Johnson-Koulianos for a TD late in the third, to seal a three score lead for the Hawks

Iowa's defense was instrumental for the win in columbus. The tough defensive front knocked out tOSU HB Herron 2nd play of the game for 6 weeks. tOSU was only able to get 46 total yards on the ground after that point. Iowa was able to force two turnovers, both Angerer interceptions which led to quick scores.

The Iowa Hawkeyes now leave columbus back to Iowa City where they will meet #11 Minnesota Gophers for the Big 10 Championship game and a chance to play in the Rose Bowl to play either USC (8-1,6-0) or Stanford 8-1,7-0).

BIG 10 CHAMPS! #9 HAWKS DEFEATS GOPHERS 35-28

BIG 10 CHAMPS! #9 HAWKS DEFEATS GOPHERS 35-28

The battle for Floyd Rosendale wasn't won by the better team necessarily. This game could have gone either way and if were to be played again it would be a crap shoot who would win. It was a great game that was sloppy at times, but for the most part very clean and precise by both teams.

Minnesota jumped to a quick lead via two "pick 6" 2 minutes into the gam which silenced the Hawkeye crowd. In true Iowa Hawkeye football fashion, Stanzi and the Hawks found themselves behind the eight-ball. Minnesota, up 14-0, kicked off and Iowa was able to get a solid return to the 24. After a couple inside handoffs, the Hawks put in speedy back Brandon Wegher. The very next play Wegher sprung a toss left for a 70 yard touchdown, bringing the score eventually to 14-7.

Now that Iowa had settled, they were able to get their defense on the field. The Hawks forced the Gophers to punt, giving them an opportunity to bring the score to even. Iowa used the remaining 1st quarter to drive down the field and score on a 1 yard run by Adam Robinson. Minnesota was not done yet. The Gophers QB MarQueis Gray showed incredible poise for a freshmen, continually driving Minnesota down the field and scoring on a 11 yard pass to Stoudemire. Iowa was able to answer on the following drive, scoring on a 4 yard pass to FB Brett Morse from Ricki Stanzi.

    HALFTIME

With the score tied at half, Coach Frisk reiterated with his team that they needed to continue to play the way the have. In order to beat the Gophers they would need to continue putting on the pressure. The Gophers got the ball at half and wasted no time scoring on a 3 yard FB dive 3 minutes into the 3rd quarter. Once again, Iowa drove down the field and scored on a 11 yard slant to WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos.

It seemed that no defense could muffle either teams offense until the 4th quarter when Gophers QB MarQueis Gray was pressured, thowing a pass that was picked off by RSSR Amari Speivey. This interception had the potential to put Minnesota in a tough situation. The Hawkeyes drove down the field and wham, interception Gophers inside the redzone which would take the wind out of the Hawkeye fans sails. The Gophers drove down the field with the clock ticking. Iowa could not stop the great mix of inside run, outside run, and passes. 1st and Goal line for Minnesota. The Hawkeyes stuff two run plays in a row. The very next play the Gophers run a play action, MarQueis Gray is tripped up and throws "popcorn ball" which is caught instride by RSSO FS Brent Greenwood who takes it to the house to go up by 7 with 4:05 left on the clock.

This seemed to be the dagger in the Gopher heart but with a highly effective offense and being 8-10 on third down conversions, Gray regained composure and continued to drive Minnesota down the field. With the clock at 2 minutes and the Gophers inside the 20, Gray dropped back in a spread formation. Throwing to his left Greenwood gets his second pick, umping in front of a slant and nearly taking to the house once again. With control of the ball in the final minute, the Hawkeyes ran out the clock, securing 38-25 victory.

Great game hippo, I look forward to next year. Good Luck in the Capital One Bowl.....or maybe you will get a bid to the Fiesta Bowl.

The Hawkeyes now sit and play the waiting game as they look forward to next week's rankings. Most Likely the Hawks will play in the Rose Bowl against the Stanford Cardinal who is fresh off a huge upset in #6 USC.

    PLAYERS OF THE GAME

RSFR HB #32 Adam Robinson 27 carries for 139 yards 1 TD

Great game again Emmdot. Good write up and best of luck vs Beazus in the Rose, it should be a good one. I'm looking forward to our game next year with some more experience under Gray's belt. I will however be replacing my whole defense, which might not be a bad thing. :D

The #4 Iowa Hawkeyes (2-0, 0-0) had an intense matchup with the Florida State Seminoles (0-1,0-0). The Hawks had a bit of an advantage having a game under their belt as well as home field advantage. The Seminoles came into Kinnick wanting to blast the doors off of the pink lockeroom. They scored a quick 14 points and made the Hawks looked overmatched. With starting HB Adam Robinson out for another 3 weeks, #2 HB Jewel Hampton showed everyone on national TV that he is the truth. After FSU pinned Iowa deep on the 15 yard line, Hampton sprung a counter off tackle run for 85 yards and a TD, which is an Iowa record for longest run. At halftime FSU led and Coach Frisk gave an inspirational speech. Iowa came out and shut the doors on Ponder and the Seminoles holding them to 0 points in the third quarter while Iowa scored 14, gaining the lead. Iowa would eventually hold off the seminoles, sealing their second win thus far in the season.

The Iowa offense was led by a rush attack between RSSO Jewel Hampton and FR Jeff Brinson, who rushed for 177 and 101 yards respectively. RSSR QB Ricki Stanzi threw for 225 yards on 18 completions with 26 attempts and 1 TD to Marvin McNutt. Mcnutt caught 7 passes for 73 yards.

The defense had difficult stopping the Seminoles offense but was led by MLB Jeremiah Hunter who had 13 tackles. The stellar defensive line of Binns, Clayborn, Klug, and Ballard combined for 16 tackles with 3 TFL and 2 sacks.

The Iowa Hawkeyes will now bring #17 Texas AM into their place for a tough Big 10 vs Big 12 matchup. Texas AM is led by super sophomore and Heisman candidate Christine Michaels.

The time of possession and defensive yards stats are nasty...shit anything under 200 is a good day for my defense, but I don't think I have ever held the cpu to under 100 yards. Best of luck next week vs Penn St, get revenge for both of us...I don't play them this year.

The #5 Iowa Hawkeye defense made incredible big plays against the Hoosiers. The Hawks were able to intercept hoosier QB Chapell 3 times and force 2 fumbles, one of which was returned for a TD. The Hawks had a down game on the offensive side with the loss of Sophomore HB Adam Robinson who left the game in the late first quarter with a game ending injury. Coach Frisk opted to run a three man backfield, interchanging Sophomore Jewel Hampton, Freshmen Jeff Brinson, and Junior Paki O'Meara.

The Hawks offense was led by Freshmen HB Jeff Brinson who stepped in for Adam Robinson and rushed for 88 yards on 16 carries. Robinson ended the first quarter with 54 yards on 11 carries. Hampton and O'Meara added another 66 yards on 17 carries.

The #5 Iowa Hawkeyes (6-1,4-0) will try and continue their season hopes of getting into the National Title if the right pieces fall into place. They round up their season against Michigan, at Wisconsin, at Northwestern, and for the Big 10 Championship game (most likely) in Iowa City against the #4 undefeated Minnesota Gophers.
