#6 Notre Dame slips past South Carolina

Scoring Summary
Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
Notre Dame 3 0 7 7 17
South Carolina 7 3 0 0 10

What it came down to;
* The gamecocks got on the board with 7 points 42 seconds into the game... and from that point they were limited to 3 points. But at the half, USC held a 10-3 lead as Notre Dame had given USC good field position with a weak kicking game and a missed FG.
* The gamecocks bottled up the ND run game for most of the night, limiting RB Crawford to 44yds on 20 carries. The USC Dline manhandled the ND front as Crawford managed 30 of the 44 yards after first hit.

Stats of the game: ND USC
3rd down efficiency 6 of 11 (54%) 2 of 6 (33%)
4th down efficiency 2 of 2 0 of 1

Player of the game:
Stat Comp Att Yards TD Int QB Rating
QB J Carter 17 21 227 1 0 187.4

He efficiently managed the offense and took care of the football in his first career start. Carter also picked up a couple of key first downs on options and scrambles.

Up next, back to the best place on earth:

Home opener versus JCA's Michigan squad that rebounded well from the dissapointing loss in the National Championship game vs USC, scoring an impressive win vs Baylor (56-14) in week 1.

If ND wants to hang with the talented Michigan team they will have to establish a running game.

#4 Notre Dame pulls out the green jerseys and wins a rivarly matchup vs #7 Michigan

Scoring Summary
Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
Michigan 10 0 3 0 13
Notre Dame 14 14 0 7 35

What it came down to;
* The Notre Dame run game took off as the RBs rattled off 180yards on 29 carries. Second string RB (highly touted Fred White, the #1 recruit in last years class) had his first highlight reel moment:

* ND QB play was also spectacular. Starting QB Carter was knocked out of the game with an injury after getting off to a spectacular start: 6/7 for 85yds and 2TDs. Backup QB Fields (Junior:)RS:)) came in and efficiently managed the offense in his first ever appearance! He finished 9 of 11 for 76yds and 1 TD.

* The Notre Dame defense was spectacular, holding Michigan to an astonishing 0 of 7 on third downs. When Michigan coach was prodded on the subject after the game he said, "there just weren't many open receivers out there."

Good game JCA

Player of the game:
RB Crawford, 25carries for 113yds and 1 TD.
He was a workhorse all game and held on to the football.

#2 Notre Dame tramples Michigan State

Scoring Summary
Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
Notre Dame 10 21 0 7 38
Michigan State 0 0 0 0 0

Starting RB Crawford got dinged up early, but that wouldn't stop the ND running game. Freshmen phenom Fred White would take over... in a big way. Fred gained 146yds rushing on 9 carries and added 45yds receiving. He had many tough runs up the gut which set up this beautiful option to the outside:

68yd TD run, Fred's second 60+ yd run in as many games.

ND rushed for 324 yards against a porous run defense.

#3 Notre Dame neatly trims Stanford

Scoring Summary
Team 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Total
Stanford 3 0 0 0 3
Notre Dame 7 28 10 0 45

Notre Dame exploded for 28 points in the second quarter, highlighted by this playaction TD pass:

The Irish never looked back.

The rest of the way it was the backups just chewing up clock evidenced by Notre Dame running the ball 44 times and passed 19 times.

Player of the game
QB Carter, finished 12/15 for 217yds and 2TD
