Is playing a DE contain every play of the game cheese?
Falls under mixing up your playcalling.
yeah DE contain is ok occasionally, but mixing up stunting your line works better and is realistic
Not trying to start an argument but it depends on what the offense is doing.
If he's doing it every play.....yes.
Now I know what to do to beat you...lol. Thanks!!
absolutely it is not, if your playing a scrambler your almost forced into this. Plus if the QB stays in the pocket he will hardly get any pressure on him.
Just like real football offensive tendencies affect what the defense is forced to do.
This was brought up less than a week ago in this same forum. Take a look.
Its not really the same thing, that is controlling the DE... this is thread is about calling DE contain (where they set up outside and wait for the QB to break the pocket).
If the offense is scrambling and running options most of the game then calling DE contain is fine. Depends on what the offense is doing.
I guess I misread the title.
If the you think the QB is going to scramble then call DE contain. That simple. Pick your poison. Do you think the QB is more dangerous in or out of the pocket.
I still think looping your DE's out every play is cheesy
I agree, I also think moving your DEs outside of the wide shift is also cheesey.
I don't think it should be run every play, you need to mix up your play-calling somewhat. I mean there are other plays you can call though that work similarly. An example would be LB Spy plays.
When you say looping, do mean when the ball is hiked, user takes the DE wide left or right and loops around the LT or RT or when the ball is hiked, theu user engages the LT or RT with the DE & uses the "swim move" to loop around the LT or RT? I do the latter & I don't think its cheese as I do engage the LT or RT.
Engaging the LT/RT and swimming is realistic and is your own stick skills so you are all good jk. Just watching the DE's movements when the AI does DE contain makes me sick, they do that ridiculous run around (looping). But that's EA what can you do.
Yea EA are full of morons. You would think when the DE loops the tackles would adjust. I mean with the right AI logic, its an easy stop for the tackles.
haha exactly, they look so stupid too. DE's are supposed to attack, not try and look like a pussy while running around the tackles haha
I've been thinking about this today... i dont think it's cheese because you do need it to contain qb's, but the problem is that even if the qb stays in the pocket, the de simply loops around the stupid tackles wayyy too easily. On run plays to the outside the DE almost does a 360 on the tackle and gets the back in the backfield. Oh well.
If you need to do this every play to stop the opposing QB from scrambling every play then it's obvious who is the one cheesing.
My thoughts exactly! Well put!
