It's officially July 5th from where I sit.

How are we picking/getting assigned teams for '12. I'm ready to start with TeamBuilder. There are 8 Ivy schools so we'll need 4 more.

I'd be happy with Harvard, Columbia, or Princeton. Or probably one of the other 4 add-ins depending on who they are.

So we need to figure out the other 4 first. Let me see if I can find the old post that lists available teams.

    My favorites are
    • Georgetown
    • W&M
    • Johns Hopkins
    • MIT (if they exist)
    • Howard
    • Holy Cross
    • Bucknell
    • Colgate
    • Fordham
    • Lehigh
    • Ithaca
    • NYU
    • Old Dominion
    • Richmond

If you can't tell, I prefer teams where you're not really sure where they're located. A Boston University or Delaware sounds like a state school (not sure if they are or not) and, therefore, less prestigious.

I think we should pick who's who from the Ivy and let the other 4 pick who they want from the "approved" list. Just think that will be quicker.

So I guess the best way to do this is for everyone to PM me their top 5 schools in order and we'll go from there.

I’ve always felt that this league was built on rivalries and it seems to me that we would want to have our league select teams that fit that particular theme. So therefore I went through and started to try to find some other options.

    Ivy League Locations:

    Brown – Providence, Rhode Island
    Columbia – NYC
    Cornell, Ithaca, NY
    Dartmouth – Hanover, New Hampshire
    Harvard – Cambridge, Mass
    Princeton – Princeton, NJ
    Penn – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
    Yale – New Haven, CT

Here would be my four suggested teams:

    1. Colgate -> Cornell is a big rival to Cornell and considering their location in NY would be an appropriate third team from the state to throw in. I’ve always considered them to be appropriate for this area. Plus they also fit the idea of being an “ivy league” level related Academically.

2 and 3. Lehigh and Lafayette -> I think this one would make a ton of sense for us. It would add two more Pennsylvania Schools to the mix. This is the most played football rivalry in the nation and would fit in with the rest of the Ivy League rivalries.

    4. Howard -> Known to be the black Harvard. We could also give them a rival with the one other odd ball school that doesn’t seem to have a rival in Brown. Washington D.C. and Providence, Rhode Island are actually two cities that run through I-95. So we’d have the I-95 rivalry.

So this would set up our rivalries as such:

    1. Harvard – Yale (traditional)
    2. Dartmouth – Princeton (traditional)
    3. Battle of NY – Cornell, Columbia, Colgate
    4. Battle of Penn – Lehigh, Lafayette, Penn
    5. Brown – Howard (The I-95 Showdown)

Then throw in the other traditional rivalry:
    6. Cornell – Penn
    Now for divisions:

Most logical would be North/South because most of the schools are located on the East Coast anyways. I also threw in the records from last year.

    North:
    1. Brown (6-4, 5-2)
    2. Colgate (7-4, 3-2)
    3. Cornell (2-8, 1-6)
    4. Dartmouth (6-4, 3-4)
    5. Harvard (7-3, 5-2)
    6. Yale (7-3, 5-2)

    South:
    1. Columbia (4-6, 2-5)
    2. Howard (1-10, 0-8)
    3. Lehigh (10-3, 5-0)
    4. Lafayette (2-9, 1-4)
    5. Penn (9-1, 7-0)
    6. Princeton (1-9, 0-7)

    (Map I used: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FCS_map_2011.png)
Championship Game Location: Army (ironically looks like it would be a good spot for us right in the middle, if we wanted to go with a neutral site)

There you go. The logical outsider from Kentucky with a proposal that I think would work out pretty well.

I would take on the challenge of being Howard. I teach at a primarily black school in Louisville and throw in the fact that I'll be seeing them live at EMU again for the second time I could do some actual scouting. I think it would be funny as well to have a white coach on the sideline for a traditionally black school. :) Plus we could also give me a I-AA game each year as that would be my "rivalry game with Hampton," to throw me a bone so I won't go winless at all.

    Otherwise, I'll take anyone, really.

TheCrumbIsHere good stuff bro, nice addition, although I think there are more prestigious options over Lehigh and Lafayette.

I just noticed that Carnegie Mellon is in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania will def be the most fertile recruiting grounds so we do need to have some competition in there.

Academically, perhaps. However, Lehigh and Lafayette have an established rivalry that has been going on for ages similar to that of the other Ivy League programs. Plus I also just checked to see how their football stadiums based on capacity would fit in and they both would fit in really well. Also those two are already I-AA as well along with the Ivy League schools unlike schools like Carnegie Mellon. I also had originally thought about Johns Hopkins too, but they're really, really, really low division.

I honestly couldn't care less how good their football programs are in real life. But yeah we DEFINITELY need more competition for Penn.

    Some more thoughts:
    • W&M is located in VA so they're out, imo
    • Tufts U?
    • I say we use home state to figure out the other 4

Well, we'll be building the teams recruiting pitches so we only need to figure out who wants to play with what school. In other words, Nik will have the worst talent/pitches whether he plays with Yale or Holy Cross. I imagine most don't really care too much who they end up with. I'd like to get everyone's top 5 choices and maybe a lot will work itself out.

That's not everyone but it gives you an idea of what I'm looking at. I want to include a 2nd school in PA and NJ for recruiting purposes. No need to force a second school into RI or CT, etc.
