Houston, TX - The Jaguars (0-0) traveled to Houston to take on the Texans (0-0) in week 1. Winning the toss, the Jags elected to defer to the Texans. On the first Texan drive of the game, Peyton Manning (14/22, 340 yds, 2 TD, 2 int) produced an uncharacteristic turnover as Antwon Blake intercepted Manning's pass intended for Torri Dickerson just beyond midfield. The turnover put the Jaguars in good field position which would lead to the first of two touchdown connections between rookies Ryen Irwin (16/21, 283 yds, 4 TD, 2 int) and Ronny Steriti (3 rec, 57 yds, 2 TD).

Taking a 14-6 lead into the half, the Jaguars received to open the second half and would add another touchdown to increase their lead to 21-6 following a 1 yard TD run by MJD (19 att, 75 yds, 1 TD). The Texans would respond as Manning would connect with Dematrae Magee (5 rec, 152 yds, 1 TD) on a 55 yard catch and run for a TD to cut the lead to 21-13 with a minute remaining in the third quarter. The Jaguars produced a big play of their own on their ensuing drive. The first play from scrimmage was a 58 yard streak to Cecil Shorts III (2 rec, 69 yds) who was downed at the Texans 17 yard line. Irwin would then connect with Brice Butler (6 rec, 112 yds, 2 TD) on a PA pass that left Butler wide open in the corner of the end zone. The score increased the Jaguars' lead to 28-13 at the close of the third quarter.

The Jaguars kicked off to the Texans to open the fourth quarter. The return would prove costly as Deji Karim took the ball four yards deep out of the end zone and wound up coughing up the ball on the turf at the 35 yard line which was recovered by the Jaguars at the Texans' 37. The Jaguars capitalized on the turnover as Irwin connected with Seriti for their second TD of the day putting the Jaguars lead to 35-13 and six minutes remaining in the game.

The Texans didn't give up as they put 14 more points on the board cutting the Jaguars lead to 35-27, but it was too little, too late as the Texans were unable to overcome the deficit and recover an onside kick at the end of the game. The Jaguars were happy with the road win. Their offensive performance was commendable, but their defense will need to put in some work before they face DJDunn6 and the always tough Dolphins in week 2.

Good game, Dave! Always a pleasure. saintsdave75
