Newly acquired safety Sherrod Martin has landed on the injury report going into this weeks game against the Texans. He will be out for two weeks with broken ribs. Chris Prosinski will get the start at FS. If he does well, he might stay there, but only his play on the field will determine that. In other news, MJD signed a 3 year deal to stay with the team. This is great news as the team continues to fortify the roster.

Jags lose a tough one on the road. MJD took it especially hard since it was his fumble returned for a TD that sparked a Texans comeback. " I just don't know what happened, but I need to make sure it doesn't happen again", said Jones-Drew before he got on the plane. The loss and past games have the coaching staff reevaluating some people at certain positions. Coach Bradley didn't say which positions they would be looking at, but noted that nobody is really safe in these types of decisions. We will keep an ear out for any developments.

Just like the real life Texans, the Jaguars are making another change at QB. Chad Henne will be given the reigns again and will try to lead the team to the post season. " Matt Scott was great, made some bad decisions, but was good all around. Looking at tape, the he just missing the arm strength needed to make some of throws we need from the QB position. Chad will be our guy from here on out, with Scott backing him up. Our OC has some packages for Matt, but Chad is our starter", said Gus Bradley at his weekly press conference. " I am pleased to be back and will do my best to get this team to the postseason " said Henne in locker room after practice.

Jaguars have locked up their back up of the future by signing Chad Henne to a 4 year deal today. While many wonder if signing him for such a long deal was a bad idea, the GM doesn't think so. He said during the press conference today that Chad gives them a great option to turn to if something were to happen down the road. Chad says he knows the team will be looking for a QB in this years draft, but it doesn't phase him. He said he will continue to do what he has always done, and that is to prepare as if he is the starter. The team also signed Mike Brown to a 2 yr extension. The team feels he had great pass catching ability and would only solidify a nice WR corps of young receivers.

The GM has been a busy man, he just confirmed that DT Deaderick and LT Bradfield have both signed 4 year deals. These guys are signing relatively cheap deals leaving the team with plenty cap room to make significant moves in the offseason.

The Jags just signed sack master Tyson Alualu to a big contract for 5 years that will pay about 36 million. The GM said that you have to lock up a guy who can single handedly change a game for you. The news was made public during the announcement press conference today after practice.

Jacksonville has earned a bye this week and await for the Wildcard round to play out to find out who their opponent will be. Needless to say the team is pumped to be in the playoffs, when so many didn't think they would get there. This team has proven the doubters wrong and made something out of nothing with a roster no one thought could compete. This celebration will be short lived as the team will have to step it up another notch as they face the best competition of the conference for here on out.

David Caldwell got right to work to kick off the offseason period. Today, he was able to sign free agents RT D. Barclay , FS Sherrod Martin, DT Senderrick Marks, LG Jason Spitz, MLB Leroy Reynolds, RG J. McClendon and TE N. Rosario. The Jaguars still have over 30 mil in cap to make some other moves if necessary, but Caldwell believes he can make some nice upgrades in the draft to help solidify an already talented roster. FB Jacob Hester and DT Todd McClain were let go to free agency.

Welcome former Stanford defensive coordinator Derek Mason. Mason led the Cardinal to consecutive top-15 national standings in defensive efficiency with steadfast efforts in 2011 and 2012. Mason, a 2012 Broyles Award finalist, guided a 2012 Stanford defense that was not only one of the finest in the nation, but also one of the best in school history. Mason’s leadership paved the way to a historic defensive output in 2012, breaking Stanford’s single-season sacks record (57) and pacing the Pac-12 in scoring defense (17.21), total defense (336.21), rushing defense (97.0), sacks (4.07) and tackles for loss (9.00). In 11 of its 14 games, Stanford held its opponent to 20 or fewer points. That included a 14-point effort in the overtime win at top-ranked Oregon, who led the FBS with a 54.8 scoring average.

Mason’s defensive backs were pivotal to the historic defense’s efforts, including All-America Ed Reynolds and Rose Bowl Defensive MVP Usua Amanam. Reynolds ranked first nationally with 301 interception return yards, one yard short of the NCAA single-season record. Prior to his arrival at Stanford for the 2010 season, Mason served as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2007-09, playing a vital role in the team ranking sixth in total defense in 2008 and 2009 as the Vikings won NFC North titles each season. Mason was introduced to the NFL coaching circles through the Minority Fellowship program in 1996 with the St. Louis Rams and also spent time with the coaching staffs of the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders. He joined the Vikings staff in 2007, where he worked with defensive backs coach Joe Woods.

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Mason attended Camelback High School. Derek and his wife, Leighanne, have two daughters, Makenzie and Sydney.

Jags make a few roster moves after finishing season two 8-8. David Caldwell shedded some "fat" off the roster to make room for some new blood. Most notable of the releases is QB Blaine Gabbert. He hasn't done much as far as playing goes and was taking up a lot of space, literally. A few other players were roster casualties including OLB standout Allen. After converting to MLB for the new scheme, he did fine, but not really a scheme fit with his contract expiring. The others are not really worth mentioning. Some guys will be seeing playing time at new positions this year. CB Alan Ball makes the switch to FS, while RB Denard Robinson makes the move to WR. Jags also welcome free agent DT Isaac Sopoaga to the team.

The Jags will be without star RB Maurice Jones-Drew for 8 weeks and slot receiver Ace Sanders for 5 weeks. David Caldwell says the loss of MJD is terrible but this allows the rookie Herman Glaud to show what he can do. He is a bigger back standing at 6'2" and 210 pounds. Power back McCown will also get some touches. Denard Robinson will see extra time at his new position as the new slot WR until Sanders gets back, or he could be permanent if he does well. Gus Bradley was a little upset with his players after losing the lead in their last game. " We have to finish games, we just can't let the opponent come back like that. We are better than that".

The Jaguars are proud to announce that the team has resigned WR Justin Blackmon to a 6yr 22 million dollar contract. The team also resigned big leg punter Bryan Anger to a 7 year contract worth about 10 million. The GM said that talks have stalled with veteran kicker Josh Scobee. Talks will continue during the season but it does not look good for Scobee if he doesn't accept the offer on the table.

Gus Bradley gave his end of the season press conference today. He stated he loved the way his team fought back from being dead last in almost everything at the beginning of the season to having a shot at the post season near the end. He stated he would like to see more consistency from his team when it comes to divisional games. He wants the team to sweep more division rivals than split, which they have done the last couple of seasons. He also noted that there will some staff changes going forward. The 3-4 experiment didn't go as well as planned, but he said they will not completely abandon some concepts. Some of the players that were moved around to accommodate the move will be back in their natural positions. He made a point to mention that defensive coordinator Derek Mason will not be with the team, for the reasons he stated before. David Caldwell chimed in and hinted that the past few drafts have turned out some nice 4-3 talent that they need to tap into.

Word on the street is that team will also let go of offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. Insiders are saying that Gus and Dave a tired of the bland offense they are running and want to add some different concepts and formations. Speaking of the offense, Gus has been heard saying they need to get bigger at the WR position. The avg height of the Jags WRs is about 5 foot 11. The tallest receiver they have is Blackmon and he stands at 6 foot 1. Caldwell will most likely look at FA or the draft to address this area. On defensive side, Caldwell will look to address some areas of the defense as well. The youngsters' production at the linebacker position have made older defensive playmakers like Paul Posluszny. The team will probably look to trade him, but if their are no takers, he will take on much lesser role. Stay tuned for more information as it comes available.

In a twist of irony, word is the team has reached out to former Defensive Coordinator Bob Babich to fill the vacant spot. Babich was said to have stayed in the Jacksonville area playing golf at Sawgrass and hunting during the winter seasons. Babich has agreed to once again be back on sidelines calling plays. During the official press conference, he said he plans to brings a different style playcalling to his 43 scheme as well as some added wrinkles to some of this base concepts. This could come as a godsend to Posluszny since he saw his role diminished with the 34 scheme. When the question was asked to Babich about Poz's role, he was only say that Posluszny will be ulitilized in certain defensive formations. David Caldwell said that the team will still entertain offers for Poz's services, but the team will still use him as one of the center pieces of the Babich's defense until then.

Gus Bradley made some moves today. Some notable names were not on the list of resignees and still could start significant change within the organization. The team to have to have retained the services of hard hitting SS Johnathan Cyprien, LCB Dwayne Gratz, WR Denard Robinson, CB Jeremy Harris and RG Jacques McClendon. The team will let the following players go to free agency when the season ends. Most notable are Paul Posluszny and Maurice Jones-Drew. LG Jason Spitz, CB Demetrius McCray, and WR/KR Andrew Hawkins. LT Luke Joeckel and the Front Office are still in talks. If the stalemate continues, the team will most likely use the tag option on him. I will be unfortunate to see MJD and Poz leave the organization. They have given this team a lot of good years. The hope is they will retire at the end of the season instead of in limbo in the FA pool.

We are nearing the end of the season. That means contract time for some players. Jags have resigned a number of players to the roster to keep most of the team intact for next season. General manager Dave Caldwell said that continuity and cohesion is what makes a winning team. With that in mind, he re-signed Center D. Maclin, QBs D. Alston and C. Henne, LT C. Bradfield, DT B. Deaderick and MLB L. Reynolds. Most of the signings are for depth purposes as the team will look to add new talent in the off season.
