Hoping to pass some time at work today , thought I would update my TSO status to reflect my opinion on top story Jeremy Lin , the. I wondered "am I talkin out my ass?" . Did some research and here is what I found, doing this on my iPhone so forgive the lack of polish ;)

Also let me say I like the story , seems like a good kid who is very humble, which we frankly need more of....

Last 3 games Jeremy Lin stats: 85 points 44% from field (30-67) 44% from long range (4-9) . He has +1 total assist/turnover , not ratio total. Also he went 67% from free throw scoring 21 points over that span , with 6 total steals. Won all 3 games.

Starting PG for other teams: 43 points 46% from field (18-39) 37% from long rang (3-8). They have +13 total assist/turnovers, not ratio total. They shot 77% from free throw for 7 total points, 7 steals. Lost all 3 games. These PG are : Derek Fisher , Ricky Rubio , and L. Barbosa. The 3 teams have a combined record of 37-48.

So the big thing here to me is he has played nobody, had a horrible assist/turnover total , shot the ball damn near 30 times more, has not really defended anyone that great , and has lived at he line. So to me this guy is chucking up shots, getting fouled a lot, not being a traditional PG , and beating nobody's.

So why all the hype ? If this guy was "Jamal Jones" and African American nobody would make him top story on sportscenter , don't believe me go ask Flip Murray how much hype he got when he had a good run.

In closing.... Wonder how NBA is doin over in China now that Yao is retired ? Seems like a great time for Lin to start balling huh ? Betcha his votes for all star game go through the roof here soon too. Call me a crazy conspiracy theory guy but I have a hunch Stern has ESPN hype meter turned up as much as he can here.

Anyway , hopefully I get some more opinions from my valued TSO brothers here :)

The long anticipated Lin update has gone online in 2K and i must say they got it dead on for someone who is on a hot streak. He's a 69 and has good ratings in the areas he has excelled in.

See that I even find kinda bogus , but at least he's not an 82 or something , however from what I see on twitter they would consider movin him up if he has a few more good games lol

Just a good story. Good things happening to a good kid. You can look in that kid's eyes and see that he is in awe. Just let him enjoy his 15 minutes -- no matter his numbers, he will always have this "run" for the rest of his life.

Haters gon hate. Jeremy Lin is more than just a good story at this point, he's a legit player. If he was just a shooter who had been playing above his head and shooting like 60% from deep, that would be one thing. But he's been creating easy looks for himself and his teammates and those skills aren't just something that come and go with streaks. He's very very good at running the pick and roll and he will continue to be very very good at it going forward.

If I had to make a prediction about the rest of his career, I'd say that he'll probably be an above league average PG with 1 or 2 ASG appearances (although, the crazy number of fan votes he'll get may end up making the second part of that statement false).

^^ That is stretching it -- he's just hot. Do this for 41 games (half a season) and I'll buy it. Do it for 7... ehhh, I don't believe it. I mean Tebow did it for 6-7 games and I'm sure nobody confuses him with an elite QB.

I want the kid to enjoy it, just tired of ESPN ramming him down my throat, he is not great in anyway . Sports media always looking to find the new hot story rather than just reporting, I feel like they are building this dude up so much for no reason.

I hope the kid has a nice little career, but to say he is great or even an all star is crazy. I got friends from high scholl he couldnt guard man cmon

There hasnt been a undrafted black PG from Harvard who went on a run like this. To compare him to those other PG's is just plain stupid. Rubio is playing with the best PF this season in Love. Up until a game or two ago Amare was out for the Knicks. Lin had to put up a higher number of shots. Compare him to PG's who are volume shooters and the numbers wont seem so skewed. How many traditional PG's are at the top of the NBA right now? Cp3 and Dwill. Rose and Westbrook are two PG's who are nto very conventional at all. Those two guys can drop 40 on any given night.

Ok so should I compare him to Steve Nash , who shoots almost 20% higher from 3 ? Or is that not fair ? Or should I compare him to D.Rose .... who did not set record for most turnovers in first 6 career starts ?

Or should I wait to see if the Knicks make the playoofs, and then compare him to the PG who might be pared up against him who will abuse that dude like a 10$ hooker ? ( thinking Rondo, or Holliday, or D.Rose, or hell maybe even Collison or Chalmers who both are not so good )

Mark my words, if the Knicks actually get to the playoffs, and if he is still the starting PG, he will get abused badly. So far in his little run almost nobody he has played guarded him that well, mostly becuase the teams he has played either sucked or had a 87yr old PG. Trust me in a 7 game series he would be exposed. If I am wrong, I will put that dudes little picture on my TSO profile until the next NBA season. This Lin kid is a good kid, I like him , but for fuck sake he has done jack shit in his career, he will not keep it up. The guy is turnover machine, who shoots at best 27% from 3 for his career and maybe 75-78% from the line, and I have yet to see him play defense. He's not even a top 20 PG :doodie:

One thing that is lost in this is that Lin CAN play. He's proven it at every level he's played on. Will the absurd numbers continue? Of course not. The Knicks will heavily reduce his role once Melo comes back, but i get the feeling he will do just fine as more of a facilitator/pick and roll specialist in that offense. Especially if they pick up JR Smith. Lin will be passing that ball like its a hot potato.

No you shouldnt compare him to Steve Nash. Nash isnt a volume shooter. He doesnt shoot a lot. Compare his percentages to Rose or Westbrook. Rose is shooting 31 percent from 3. Lin is shooting 50 percent from the field. Idk of many PG's outside of maybe Rondo who can lock down another guy. To say he would get abused in the playoffs is really just speculating. You really dont know who will play good D. Jeff Teague made D Rose look stupid in their playoff series. Does that mean D Rose is a bad defender?. You think anyone cares about him turning the ball over if hes scoring that much at 50% shooting? He has no reason to decline in skill. His team is only going to get healthier. His numbers will go down but, that is to be expected when you have two scorers like Amare and Melo on your team.

So I should compare his recent hot streak numbers vs. his actual career numbers ? You do know Lin is a career 25% shooter from 3 right ? did you not see any of the stats I gave ? If he goes back to shooting 25% from 3, and stops shooting over 50% as you claim (not sure thats accurate FWIW) , and still turns it over a ton, you think he will still be this great player eveyone is making him out to be ?

And I am speculating he will get abused, that is because I have watched the NBA for 27 years, weak players get abused in the playoffs , if you have never seen that I do not know what NBA playoffs you have been watching.

Are we so starved for great players in sport now that we are putting guys in elite status after a dozen or less starts ? WTF

I said 50% shooting from the field. I never called him elite . Hes good. I dont know what NBA you have been watching if you can't recognize that. Also him turning it over a ton is a product of him having most of the offensive burden imo. I think once Melo and Amare are back together his ppg an topg will both go down, and apg will go up.

Once Melo comes back and if the signing of Smith happens, his turnovers and points will go down, but so will his assists. Why? Because his minutes per game will go down. I think you'll see Shumpert get more time at the point because they will need SOMEONE on the court that can play perimeter defense. Then again, D'Antoni was happy always getting beat by defensive (or more balanced) teams in the playoffs in Phoenix...

TITCR. No one is defending that Lin is elite. He's not. Arguing against that is just building a straw man to tear down. But he can play. His ability to run the pick and roll is one part of his game that IS borderline elite. There is absolutely no reason that he should not be able to continue to do that for a very long time in the league.

Does any part of his game make you think he is just another JJ Berea? Which may not be a bad thing really...

AAAAAND 2K has officially bought into the Linsanity. Another update out with Lin at a 75. Way overrated at this point. Here is a screen.

What crackhead did that shit ? SMH

I saw it unfolding on twitter , on principle alone I gotta call BS , 2k is letting the fan base do ratings now I guess. Only a matter of time until a roster update to included players from the And-1 mix tape tours get added. Some kid who never owned a basketball will blow twitter up saying " man Hotsauce is dope , his handles should be 4000 , he can't be stopped , make him a 92ovr" .

Maybe I got a bit crazy in that last part but damn it what happend to having some damn principles about things ? Fucking anarchy I tell ya ! :p

Now you have got me curious as to what Skip To My Lou aka Raefer Alston's ball handling rating was before he retired.

There will always be a place in my heart for Skip. He led the Magic to the '09 finals when Jameer got hurt.
