The 0-2 New York Jets started the season off in disappointing fashion with a loss to divisional rival Buffalo and another loss to the Steelers. Their week 3 matchup against another AFC East rival Miami Dolphins was as much of a “must-win” game as a team could have this early in the season. The Jets were able to get big performances from their star players and hold on to a critical 24-21 victory in Miami.

The game started off horribly for the Jets as their defense was too aggressive blowing coverages and missing tackles. Miami QB Ryan Tannehill made the Jets pay with a pair of touchdown strikes to Denarius Moore for 45 yards and Reggie Bush for 38 yards. The Dolphins took this 14-0 lead into the end of the first quarter in what looked like a rough road for the Jets.

Following the Bush touchdown, the Jets were able to put together a steady offense of short/medium range passes from Sanchez and several decent runs by Shonn Greene. After driving nearly the length of the entire field, Sanchez connected with TE Dustin Keller from one yard out for a touchdown to get the Jets on the board. The Jets defense finally stepped up at this point as the next two Dolphin drives ended with interceptions by cornerbacks Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie. The Jets’ offense, meanwhile, added a 32 yard field goal from Josh Brown and another Sanchez touchdown pass. This touchdown pass happened with just eight seconds left in the first half as Sanchez found a wide open Chad Johnson in the corner of the end zone.

The Jets received the second-half kickoff and began to build another methodical drive down the field. Miami’s defense began to play more aggressively and added more blitzing into their play calling. From Miami’s 20 yard line, Sanchez was under pressure and dumped the ball off to HB Bilal Powell who ran untouched into the endzone to put the Jets up by 10 after scoring 24 unanswered points. Miami was able to score another touchdown to close the gap, but several dropped potential interceptions and a fumble late in the game allowed the Jets to run out the clock and earn their first victory of the season.

GG CHUNKNESS. I’m looking forward to our next matchup this season.

If it weren't for that fumble at your 45 on our final drive, we could have had ourselves an OT period at the very least. Damn it, Stewart; hold on to the rock!!! ;) Good game, Taylor. Looking forward to our next match-up in NY.
