The New York Jets are headed to the Super Bowl after winning AFC Championship

The Jets' 24-17 win over the Colts won New York the AFC title and a trip to the Super Bowl.

After the Jets' narrow 23-17 victory in Indy back in week 6, this was clearly going to be a close matchup. Quarterback Mark Sanchez has had an inconsistent season, but his performance in the AFC Championship may the be highlight of his year. Against a fast Colt D that has forced turnovers all season long, Sanchez needed to control the offense and avoid turnovers. He did just that throwing for a pair of touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Colts opened up scoring with a Rayner field goal late in the first quarter. On the following Jets' drive, Sanchez was backed up to a 3rd and 20 on the Colts' 24 yard line. Breakout WR Stephen Hill broke free into coverage and caught a perfectly thrown ball for the touchdown. New York would hold on to the 7-3 lead into halftime, but only due to the Colts throwing to a WR with :08 left and no time outs who caught the ball short of the goal line and time expired before a FG attempt.

Both offenses began to open up in the second half. Luck found Steve Slaton on a screen pass who ran around the defense to score a 46 yard touchdown. The Jets responded quickly driving the length of the field before Tim Tebow ran into the endzone from one yard out to put the Jets up 14-10 at the end of the third quarter. Following a 52 yard field goal from the Jets' Josh Brown, their defense became over-aggressive and left quick Colts' WR T.Y. Hilton open over the middle for a short catch and a long 79 yard run to the house. This score tied the game at 17-17. As they have all season long, the Jets saved their best for the final quarter. Sanchez found an open Stephen Hill for yet another long touchdown pass of 62 yards with six minutes left in the game. The defense was up to the task of holding onto the 24-17 lead by forcing a punt, recovering a fumble, and stopping the Colts from reaching the end zone on their final possession as time expired.

sounds like a good close game. Would've liked for James to lead some FSU pride into the Super Bowl, but if someone else got there, I'm glad it was my fellow AFC East rival Taylor. Looking forward to seeing how this Super Bowl shapes up!
