Going into Cincy, the Jets knew they were facing a totally different team than they faced late last season. Not only did the Bengals improve this offseason but this time they would have their top 2 QB's healthy in Palmer and Vick instead of lowly Jake Delhomme.

    First Quarter
The game started out just as the Jets planned. With Mike Vick in to start the game, Darrelle Revis would pick him off on the first drive as he was late on a comeback route. With the ball deep in Bengals territory the Jets wanted to come out and pound the Bengals but the Bengals defense held up and forced the Jets into a field goal for the early 3-0 lead. On the Bengals next possession, offseason aquisition Macho Harris would pick off a pass over the middle to give the Jets the ball at the Bengals 48 yard line. Then IT happened. On the Jets first play, under enormous pressure Sanchez would hit Keller for a 9 yard gain and the Jets were ready to move the ball. Turns out Sanchez would get flattened and would succomb to the ever so present broken collarbone injury and is lost for 8 weeks. In comes Kellen Clemens and the Jets offense couldn't move the ball to save their lives, they would add a field goal to make it 6-0 to end the first quarter.

    Second Quarter
After a fumble by Mike Vick, the Jets would once again be set up with a short field. Unable to move the ball against a stingy Bengals D, the Jets would once again settle for the field goal to take a 9-0 lead. Insert Carson Palmer, and on his first drive he too would test Mr. Revis and would be picked off, this time for a pick six as the Jets would stretch the lead to 16-0 at the half.

    Third Quarter
After an interception thrown by Kellen Clemens, the Bengals would capitalize and J. Mckie would punch it in from 1 yard out to shrink the lead to 16-7. Both defenses would completely take over as each offense could not move the ball at all resulting in mutliple sacks and interceptions on both sides.

    Fourth Quarter
Still in the game, the Bengals would finally penetrate the Jets defense but the drive would stall and they would be forced to kick the field goal after a huge sack by Corey Wootton. Knowing they needed a big play to put the Bengals away, the Jets turned to another offseason aquisition as Knowshon Moreno would take the counter 50 yards setting the Jets up at the Bengals 22. Unable to move the ball the Jets would settle for the 3 to make it 19-10. The Bengals would not give up as they would convert a long bomb on 4th and long to get them into field goal range to make it 19-13 with under a minute left. The Jets would recover the onside kick and run the clock out for the 19-13 win.

After the game, Coach Curtis had this to say about his team's performance, "Losing Mark so early in the game I didn't know how our guys would respond. Thankfully our defense kept forcing turnovers and getting our offense a short field to work with. We will have to make some adjustments to our gameplan without Mark but if our defense keeps playing like this I think we should be fine".
