Here is a first take at the upcoming draft. As this is before combine results, some of these may end up changing. However, the mock can't be performed after the Combine due to the short schedule. Got CBs? DBs look to be the hot ticket this draft. The position is in need by many teams, and there aren't that many stud CBs to go around. MLBs, QBs, and HBs are also predicted to go. There is a good chance more oline end up being taken, and less HBs. 1. Steelers (via Cowboys via Patriots) Needs: CB, TE, DE, QB Jordan Crawford - CB The scouts tout Crawford as the best pure cover CB in a lean CB draft. The Steelers paid big to move up into this spot, sacrificing next year's 1st as well as other picks and athlete Dri Archer to Dallas. He should compliment last year's 1st Marshall well and be one of the better young CB duos in the league. Coach Tubb hopes Crawford can limit Perriman when matched up against their divisional rival Ravens. Coach Tubb's other needs do not warrant the 1st overall pick, and Roethlisberger is still going. They will need to look for a QB in the future soon, and address the other positions later in the draft or FA. 2. Bengals (via Dolphins) Needs: QB, CB, FS, WR Colin Jennings - QB The Bengals let go of their star WR AJ Green for picks that they helped packaged together to move up to #2. Conceivably they have their eye on someone in particular. We have known of Cimmy's disdain for Dalton, so we figure they make a splash and go for a QB here. The QB draft seems fairly deep, but without a superstar like last year's Woodson. However, Jennings looks to be an improvement over Dalton with a strong arm and great accuracy. Did the Bengals hurt their future QB development though by letting go of what would be his best target? We could also see CB go here due to the high demand on the position, but Bengals stick to their guns and jettison the Red Ryder BB Gun. 3. Seahawks Needs: RT, WR, CB, HB Devin Cook - RT The Seahawks still have a stacked roster, especially on defense. However, they do have a glaring hole at RT, a soft WR corps, and not a lot at the CB position besides Sherman. Not to mention, workhorse Lynch is getting long in the tooth for a HB. The Seahawks go with the best run blocker in the draft in Devin Cook. Cook is a huge road grader of a RT who can punish defenders and open holes for the Seahawks run game. We would not be surprised to see Seattle go with CB here and address the OL or WR hole later in the 1st. But rumors are the Seahawks look to move back from here. Perhaps a CB hungry team may jump and join in on the CB train. 4. Eagles Needs: CB, LG, DE, OLB Trey McCray - CB The Eagles are desperate to secure a CB to go alongside Maxwell in their secondary. McCray is the best man press CB in the draft and will have an instant impact for the Eagles. CBs are at a premium in this draft and so Pitt knows he cannot pass up this opportunity. Look for the Eagles to shore up the LG and aging DE and LB positions later in the draft. 5. Jaguars Needs: CB, SS, HB, MLB Javarie Gandy - CB The Jags have a fairly young roster without many glaring holes. Their secondary however lacks impact players and could use a young star. And 3 CBs go in the top 5. Gandy is a great cover CB, but just isnt quite as physical as the first 2 guys gone, but the talent drop off here is minimal. This is a tough call. We could easily see a Safety or a LB go here. Posluszny is on the wrong side of 30 and Jags may need to bring in an athletic replacement sooner than later. Yeldon is functional at HB, but hasn't become the star feature back the Jags perhaps thought he could be. The Jags may address the position in the draft as well to give him some competition. 6. Packers (via Texans) Needs: MLB, SS, QB, Morgan Gordon - MLB Even with Rodgers and Nelson gone, the Packers still have a talented roster. Coach Akshat seems confident in Brett Hundley, so we have them addressing their LBer group by taking Morgan Gordon. Gordon is a prototypical MLB that is a sure tackler and is a sideline to sideline defender. We don't feel there is a safety good enough to go here. Packers could go QB here, but they may address that with their 2nd pick in the 1st. 7. Broncos (via Falcons) Needs: CB, MLB, SS, C Takoby Brandon - MLB Denver is another team with a talented roster, and dumped elite CB Chris Harris to move up in Atlanta's #7 slot. If they are looking to replace Harris, this may be a bad move, as the top 3 CBs may be off the board. This could force Coach Smalls to attempt to trade out of the spot, or go with the next best MLB to bolster their already good front 7. Brandon is another prototype MLB in the same mold as Gordon who was picked right before him. This is another tough call, and we arent sure who the Broncos are after here. De La Puente and Vasquez are aging, but this may not be the spot to take an interior O-lineman. 8. Browns Needs: DE, HB, QB, OLB, SS, TE, RT Connor Sullivan - DE The Browns do what the Browns do and have a bunch of roster holes. That being said, they could practically go anywhere here and take best available player. Sullivan is a 6'7 297 lb beast that is near unblockable. He is getting some comparisons to JJ Watt coming out of college. Sullivan could help work wonders shoring up the Browns porous run defense. The Browns could go several places here. Are they happy with Manziel? Do they want an impact HB, as they have a backfield full of average players. Other positions have aging players, but no position would seem to have the impact that a dominant DE would at this time. 9. Vikings Needs: MLB, WR, RG, RT WR- Brandon Greco The Vikes help give rising star Bridgewater a new weapon with the sure handed Greco. With a draft mostly filled with sub 6' WRs, the towering Greco at 6'4 has the size to get up and pull down anything thrown his way. The right side of the oline is suspect, and could be addressed here as well. We wouldnt be surprised if Vikes go with the next MLB off the board, in this defensive themed draft early on. 10. Texans (via Packers via Falcons via Cowboys) Needs - LB, WR, OL, QB, TE Cornelius Dixon - MLB Texans coaching staff is flirting with a move to the 4-3. Either way, Dixon will be an impact to help an ailing Texans D. He is a near identical player to the other MLBs already off the board, as he is a hard hitter and can run down ball carriers. With the upcoming movement of Mallett to HB, the Texans are looking for another slot WR target. Has the Savage experiment run its course? Will Texans look to take a QB this draft? 11. Colts Needs: HB, OLB, CB, OL Reshaud Cole - HB The Colts biggest need by far is a bell-cow HB. There are several solid HBs in the draft, but Cole is perhaps the best of the bunch. He has great vision and is a shifty back that is hard to bring down. We wouldn't be surprised to see Indy address needs at LB or the Oline here, but I think it is no secret the Colts covet a back. 12. Saints Needs: CB, RT, QB, DT, RG Cody Newton - OT The Saints may be dismayed to see that the top 3 CBs are off the board. They may reach here and go for one of the next CBs, or they can address other needs at the Oline and take big Cody Newton. Newton is a versatile Olineman with good feet that is both a capable run and pass blocker. Is Garrett Grayson the answer at QB? We could see them go QB here or stick to their guns and address the CB need. 13. Buccaneers Needs: OL, FS, WR, CB Jason Chandler - LG The Bucs have some talent, but their oline is in poor shape, with their best guys aging and near retirement. The Bucs may spend a few picks this draft addressing this issue, or maybe not. They could also go and get another linebacker... 14. Giants Needs: MLB, QB, CB Michael French - MLB With an aging Beason the only MLB on the roster, the Giants get the last stud MLB in Michael French. He is another sure tackling linebacker that will start for the Giants the rest of the cycle. After shoring up their oline last year, they have a good young foundation for their offense. They got rid of Eli and brought in Kaepernick. Is he the future? If not, NT may go QB here. 15. Texans (via 49ers) Needs: WR, OL, QB, TE Nate Bridges - WR Could the Texans go QB here? Instead they get the slot WR they covet in Bridges. Bridges is an electrifying player who hopes to open up the Texans offense lining up all over the field. 16. Dolphins (via Bengals) Needs: CB, DE, QB, LG, CB David Scott The Dolphins have some big needs, but none seem bigger than CB, with the old Grimes as their only above average player at the position. While Scott maybe the next tier of CBs in the draft, he is definitely an upgrade over what the Phins currently have. We have heard the owner Phiguy is shopping around QB Tannehill, so they could go QB here. DE Wake is also no spring chicken 17. Raiders Needs: LB, CB, WR, LT Lenny James - OLB With the Raiders rumored to move to the 43, they appear to be just 1 starting LB shy of doing so. Coach Guy takes the 1st OLB off the board in Lenny James. James is the Tampa 2 LB in the mold of Derrick Brooks or Lavonte David. He excels in the passing game and is prone to making big plays. After this pick, the Raiders will be content to go youth or shore up some of the other needy positions with depth. 18. Lions Needs: CB, SS, WR Normando Bell - WR With the CBs gone, and an aging Calvin Johnson, Third goes WR here and picks up the versatile Bell. He is no Megatron, but has sure hands and the athletic ability to make any catch. No SS seems to be 1st rd worthy, so Bell will be the #3 WR learning under Johnson, until he can step up and take over. 19. Dolphins (via Bengals via Rams via Broncos) DE, QB, LG, Scott Morris - QB While they could go for Wake's replacement at DE, new Dolphins brass will go with their own guy at QB in Morris. Morris has an above average arm and is deadly accurate. The big question, where does Tannehill go? 20. Cowboys (via Steelers) Needs: CB, FS, SS, WR Falo Galvin - WR After moving star Dez Bryant for a ton of value, and then trading back for even more, Dallas may look to get a big body replacement for Dez. Galvin is another big body 6'4 receiver that makes highlight reel catches. Unfortunately, Dallas is stacked at the good positions left at this point, and their needs are either taken or are weak. They need defensive back help badly. 21. Bengals (via Rams via Titans) Needs: CB, FS, WR Aaron Lewis - FS The CBs are gone, and this may be a reach. Is Cincinnati regretting going QB #2 and wished they grabbed the corner? Lewis may not be 1st worthy, but the Bengals need help. WR could also be possible here. 22. Bears Needs: HB, DE, Oline AJ Gates - HB With no feature back on the roster, the Bears grab shifty AJ Gates at #22. Gates is hard to bring down, and the Bears hope to get production from him in the passing game as well. The oline is solid but aging. The C and left side are all over 30. A young DE would be good too, but I think the Bears may go there with their 2nd. 23. Cardinals Needs: DE, S, C, MLB, DT Kyle Gray - DE Most of the Cardinals needs aren't big ones, but basically replacements for aging players. Safety might be their biggest need, but we don't see anyone here to address it. Gray is a stout 34 DE who will give opposing O-linemen fits trying to block him. He will eat up some blockers to allow the Cards LBs to make plays. 24. Chargers Needs: DE, DT, OLB, WR Leon Parker - OLB While DE may be a bigger need as Ray McDonald is old and expected to retire soon, the Chargers make a splash taking the 2nd OLB in the draft. The current group isn't bad, but Parker could be the athletic and hard hitting LB the group needs. The Chargers could go Dline here or look to get another weapon for Mettenberger. 25. Falcons (via Ravens) Needs: QB, WR, DE, FS, LT Wes Webb - QB The Falcons have blown up their roster, and have a lot of future picks for it. They also went out and snagged star Chris Harris from the Broncos. With Matt Ryan on his way to Arizona, the Falcons introduce Wes Webb. Unfortunately for Wes, just like the Bengals, the staff have moved what would be his best target in Julio Jones. Wes is similar to the other 2 QBs in the draft, above average arm and accurate. With so much action from the Falcons, and even this trade being a rumored one, we don't quite know where the Falcons will be going here. 26. Panthers Needs: HB, CB, WR, OT Dejaun Mason - HB The HB stable is getting old in Carolina. Mason has great vision and an excellent juke move that will leave most defenders grasping for air. Rumor is the Panthers are looking to trade this pick, so someone else may own this come draft time. 27. Packers Needs: SS, QB, CB Jason McKay - QB We will see if the Packers are confident in Hundley or not. If not, McKay will be a great value pick for them. He is about as good as the other QBs taken. Can make most NFL throws and on target. 28. Seahawks (via Bills) Needs: WR, CB, HB Deric Phillip - HB With Lynch winding his career down and on his way out of town, Seattle needs a replacement. Phillip is the next back taken in this deep HB draft. He is similar to the other HBs off the board, in that he is elusive and can see the holes as they open 29. Jets Needs: HB, CB, WR, OT Calvin McElroy - WR We aren't sure where Mo will go here. He has a solid, but aging roster. With Decker and Marshall both 30 or older, the Jets take WR McElroy. He is a smaller WR, but has sure hands and can beat the press man coverage. An HB or olineman here would not surprise in the least. We suspect Mo takes the best guy available. 30. Redskins Needs: DT, OLB, MLB, WR, LG Noah Taylor - C While the Skins don't really have any holes, they have positions that could be upgraded or has an aging veteran. Taylor is an excellent run blocking C that could also play guard. The Skins offense is explosive as it is, but Taylor could help bust open even more lanes for Morris. We could see HR going LB, DT, or even WR here. With Jackson on the decline due to age, the Redskins may try to compliment last year's rookie sensation Parker with another young WR. 31. Packers (via Rams pending SB) Needs: SS, CB Treyon Moseley - CB With Hayward gone, the Packers will look to add a new Nickel CB to the mix. Moseley is a standout zone coverage CB, but struggles a bit in man. With some work, he could turn into a great Nickel back, even in man defense calls. 32. Chiefs (pending SB, in game has Chiefs at 32) Needs: QB, MLB, C Patrick Mason - QB The AFC champs Chiefs may pull a Ravens and drop the QB that got them to the promised land. We think Alex Smith may be on his way out, and Mason will be the 5th QB taken in the 1st round. Mason is the last of the upper tier QBs in the draft and can make plays and throws outside of the pocket.
