    Las Vegas State Game Recaps

The Outlaws hosted conference rival UTEP in front of a sellout orange clad crowd at the Palms Resort and Stadium. This type slugfest previously was reserved for the many championship boxing matches held in at various casinos on the Las Vegas strip. Coach Knights Las Vegas St team struggled early on offense and the defense was knocked to canvas twice after giving up 80 and 64 yard pass and rushing touchdowns, respectively. In an update to the old phrase, "The King has entered the building." LVS QB Joel Kingman connected with WR Patrick Donaldson on a 13 yard touchdown to bring the Outlaws to within 2 points with 18 seconds left in the game. The "King" then called his own number as he rolled out on bootleg and ran the ball in for the two point conversion, tying the game at 21. IN overtime the Outlaw defense shut down the Miners offense after UTEP won the coin flip. Mike White then kicked the game winning 45 yard field goal on the OUtlaws first and only play in the overtime period.

After QB Joe Kingman was removed at the half in favor of Gerome Brinkley, the LAs VEgas State Outlaws were able to muster enough offense behind a stellar defensive effort to down the Naval Academy 28 - 14. The game was by no stretch of the imagination a gem but LVS was able to notch its third victory and after losing its first game last week.

LVS travels to the land of Blue Turf

The Outlaws of Las Vegas State traveled north to take on Boise State. The Outlaws battled injuries and uninspired play throughout the contest on the way to a 52 - 24 trouncing by the Broncos. Boise State trailed 10 - 0 after the first four and a half minutes before closing out the first half with 38 unanswered points. The offseason awaits Las Vegas State as they conclude their first season in FBS play. While there some highlights Coach Knight has his work ahead as he loses a few starters and looks to refill in recruiting and offseason drills.

Outlaws Shoot It Out In Opener

Fans in Las Vegas are in for quite a ride if the season opener is any indication. The Outlaws fell behind quickly at home against the visiting Colorado State Rams. In fact they were down 20 - 7 after the first quarter as a result of poor ball security and even poorer tackling. Freshman RB Braylon Jackson darted through a hole on his second carry of the game for a gain of 12 but promptly fumbled the ball after being stood up by several Rams. Jackson showed great poise throughout the rest of the game as he completed his first college game with 119 total yards and three touchdowns. Fellow freshman Herman Garner led the Outlaws in receiving with 5 catches for 74 yards. The added weapons and the experience gained from last year and the offseason helped Joe Kingman look much more composed in the pocket as he found 7 receivers in the game.
While Kingman was sacked only once in the game, his counterpart, K Kubiak was under relentless pressure and sacked 4 times. The Outlaws defense also accumulated eight tackles for loss. It looks like freshman Bruce Richardson has what it takes to lead Las Vegas State making all the appropriate calls and shifts against a very good Colorado State offense.

    2010 Week 2 @ BYU

The Brigham Young Cougars jumped to an early 21 - 10 first half lead against the visiting Las Vegas State Outlaws. In the second half the Outlaws outscored the Cougars 31 - 20 behind the fine running of freshman Braylon Jackson and timely passes by QB Joe Kingman. The offensive explosion forced the game into overtime. After both teams traded field goals in the first overtime frame and touchdown runs in the second, Las Vegas State fell just short of their pass attempt to force a foruth overtime.

Week 4: LVS @ Kansas Jayhawks

The Las Vegas State Outlaws traveled to Lawrence, Kansas on Saturday to compete against the Kansas Jayhawks. After the triple overtime loss in Provo the previous week, Coach Suge Knight warned his players against coming out sluggish. His warnings apparently fell on deaf ears as the Outlaws squeaked out a narrow 22 - 20 victory. The offense dominated the time of possession battle nearly doubling the efforts of their opponents. The scary news for Outlaws fans came early in the second quarter when frosh tight end Garner was injured. Garner's status is unknown for the upcoming WAC home game against LA Tech.

Las Vegas State wins 63 - 42 at Phoenix Pride. Freshman Braylon Jackson scored three touchdowns adding to his school best 23 rushing TDs on the season. While Jackson's performance was excellent, it paled in comparison to the 4 sacks by Jason Giska. The eight team sacks, six of which came in the second half propel the Outlaws to their victory and locks up Las Vegas State's first WAC championship. The regular season closes against the St Edward Eagles next week in Vegas.
