Would just like to apologize for my week 4 shellacking of Ole Miss. 52 to 3. In the final 8 seconds i ran a pitch on fourth down to drain the remaining time off the clock. I broke the play open and ran for 40 or 50 yards before i realized what i was doing. I tried to dive, but the dive came a split second to late and the ball crossed into the endzone. You guys know, that's not a typical play from me. It will not happen again. I saved the video of the final play on the dynasty wire.

    sorry

Well Peench and i are tossing around ideas for an advancement schedule that flexes. I was thinking of 48 hour advance in a CPU heavy week and anytime there are 2 or more user games the advancement moves to 72 hours. That would set it up like this:

Week 4 - advances late tomorrow night
Week 5 - advances late thursday night
Week 6 - advances late saturday night
Week 7 (Tirade your user game is here against Peench) - advances late Tuesday night

Due to the addition of Illinois it adds a 2nd user game to this weeks schedule so the advance gets expanded to 72 hours. Have fun guys!

Week 5: #19 Texas Tech at Iowa State

After a 41-7 route of FCS West to climb back to .500 on the season the Cyclones looked for their first Big XII win as the #19 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders came to town.

The first quarter saw lots of defense and ugly offense. Each team forced a fumble, Texas Tech taking theirs all the way back for a touchdown. All the Cyclones could manage was a field goal, and trailed going into the 2nd quarter 7-3.

The second quarter saw much of the same for the Iowa State offense. Tiller moved the home team down the field more efficiently but they could not punch it in, settling for 2 more redzone field goals. The defense held the high-powered Red Raider offense in check for the most part holding them scoreless except for their first possession of the second quarter, and forcing a fumble deep in their own territory with 6 seconds late in the half. The Cyclones had little reason to be optimistic however. After an outstanding first half with 14 yards rushing but 50 yards receiving out of the backfield, the Cyclones lost their Senior RB and team leader Alex Robinson for the season with a broken foot, ending his college career.

Halftime Score: Texas Tech 14 Iowa State 9

With all the wind out of their sails from the loss of Robinson, the game, and now the season rested on sophomore QB Jerome Tiller's shoulders. the Cyclones took the field in the second half playing for Hamilton. They again marched the ball down the field and again had to settle for a field goal. Bring the score to 14-12 midway through the 3rd quarter. Texas Tech responded within a minute and a half on a 25 yard TD strike to pull ahead by 9. A quick 3 and out and the ensuing FG left Texas Tech up 12 with all the momentum a minute into the 4th quarter.

It was do or die time for the Cyclones. Under pressure and beat up all day Tiller found himself in a familiar spot, but this time he escaped the grasp of the Red Raider Defensive tackle and broke the pocket for a 41 yard scramble to start the Cyclone drive. Two plays later the cyclones were knocking at the goaline, only to be turned away 4 plays in a row. Down 12 with 5 minutes to go, the game was nearly out of reach. With the crowd roaring the Cyclone defense gave one last stand forcing a quick 3 and out giving the ball back to Tiller with 4:37 left on the Cyclone 42 yardline.

One minute later Tiller was hooking up with backup running back freshman Jason White for an 18 yard TD pass. The PAT put the Cyclones down 24-19 with a newfound hope. An incomplete pass and a botched option led to another 3 and out, and with Jack Trice Stadium rockin' and 1:55 to play, the Cyclones got the ball back with 3 timeouts and 68 yards from the lead. A screen on first down Tiller went back to White for 10 yards and a first down. In the hurry up Tiller found Darius Reynolds on a deep corner route all the way down to the Red Raiders 16 yard line. With 3 timeouts and 1:24 left the Cyclones slowed the pace. A sweep to White was blown up and put ISU in a 2&15 hole with under a minute to play. Tiller remained poised and found Sedric Johnson inside the 5 yard line with 46 seconds and counting. With 28 second left Jerome Tiller trotted in from 2 yards out on an option keeper to give the Cyclones a point lead. On the exact same play Tiller did the exact same thing trotting in again for the 2 point conversion giving the Cyclones a critical 3 points lead with 28 seconds left. T

Unfortunately a return to the 33 yard line only saved by the kicker left a lot to be decided. A second down sack left the Raiders with 3&18 and 14 seconds left. An incompletion on 3rd left one play. Potts got the ball all the way to the endzone, but the Cyclone DB's were there to bat the ball down as Iowa State pulled out a thrilling upset at home.

    Iowa State 27 #19 Texas Tech 24

Negatives: Team leader and workhorse Sr. Running Back Alex Robsinson out for the season with a broken foot.
Secondary although playing big time in the clutch, gave up 399 yards through the air.

Positives: WR's - with leading receiver Darius Darks held to 1 catch for 16 yards, everyone else stepped up. Especially Sed Johnson and Darius Reynolds, combining for 9 catches for 171 yards
and the 2 biggest plays of the game on the final drive.
Jason White - Freshmen running back came in and played admirably in place of Hamilton. With 10 carries for 15 yards and 4 catches for 33 yards and a TD, all in the 2nd half.
Jerome Tiller - Continues a strong sophomore campaign. Under pressure and pounded all day he showed toughness and leadership that the Cyclones will need the rest of the way.
Finished 21-46 for 327 yards 1 TD 0 INT. Added 67 yards on the ground and the go ahead TD run.

Next week Iowa State gears up to host the Mountain West powerhouse Utah in search of their second straight upset and 3rd win in a row.
