    LSU 45
    Pitt 7

LSU came out and showed why they are one of the most feared teams coming into this season.

Offensively, the tigers were able to move the ball at will on the ground, grabbing 272 yards against a Pitt defense who was just able to physically compete. Jordan Jefferson completed 19-27 passes for 176 yards, as the Tigers used a series of bubbles, screens, and short passes to move the ball down the field. This was most likely due to Jefferson's lack of ability to throw the ball. On almost every pass more than 12 yards, Jefferson just missed the target by large margins. If LSU's offense continues to perform well this year, it will be in spite of Jefferson as opposed to because of him. If Miles decides at some point that Jefferson's running ability isn't making up for his lack of ability to pass effectively, Zach Mettenberger may be thrust into a starting role.

The Pitt Panthers were unable to move the ball, only gaining 121 yards of total offense. A big part of this was the speed of LSU's defense. They were able to swarm the ball carrier every time Pitt attempted to run. This forced them to pass the ball constantly. Big plays were everywhere, as LSU recorded 4 sacks on the day. Mo Claiborne looks as though he might be BETTER than Patrick Peterson a year ago, picking off two passes on the day.

Overall, it looks like LSU will be a lot like the experts predicted this year - great on defense, with some holes on the offense. The running game will obviously not be as easy when they get into the tough parts of their schedule and Jordan Jefferson will need to be able to make some plays in the air (or at least avoid mistakes) and leave the bulk of the responsibility on the defense if they hope to win an conference or national title.

Next week LSU will host USC, a game which will likely end in a landslide victory by the Tigers.

Beavs Take Care of the Mormons 45 - 20

Beavers come out strong shutting down the BYU Offense on a 3 and out. On the 2nd play from scrimmage, McCants broke a 62 yard run to the house. The Beavs held
on defense again with a drive that lead to a passing TD to WR Jordan Bishop putting the Beavs up 14 - 0. On the next series, on a swing Pass to the BYU HB, the Beavs defense swarmed forcing a fumble that lead to a scoop and score. This put the Beavs up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. That's all the scoring they would need for the balance of the game. BYU's two TD's came on a blown coverage by the Beavs defensive backfield and a pic 6 thrown by the Beavs on a forced pass.

Irish Squeak By Penn State to Open Season With a Win

South Bend, IN -- Notre Dame goes into the season as the new kids on the block in the Big 10 joining the conference this season. The season could not have started any bigger with a home game against Penn State. The Irish were able to jump out to an early lead driving the ball down the field on a long drive which was capped on a 42 yard David Ruffer field goal, which would be his first of 4 on a perfect day for the kid. Penn State was able to strike back on the subsequent drive with Silas Redd 41 yard run TD run straight up the gut.

The game would be defensive battle for both of the teams for much of the game. The Irish's break came on a 62 yard bomb from Dayne Crist to Michael Floyd to put the Irish up for good. The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Irish as next week they face the Ohio State Buckeyes in another Big 10 divisional game.

Michigan starts off season strong over local Western Michigan

Michigan filled up the big house with the beginning of the 2011 campaign and looked strong over in state school Western. QB Denard Robinson was the star of the offense passing for 79 yards and a TD, and running for 86 and another TD seen here:

    http://www.easports.com/media/play/video/81989704

The offense also got some work from HB Hopkins who rushed for 73 YDs and a TD. The defense however was the big story in this game only allowing 20 yards the entire game, a huge improvement from last years joke of a defense. The Dline was dominant putting pressure on the opposing QB all game long and putting 6 sacks in the stat sheet. Michigan takes care of business and now heads south for a huge matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs, a much better team that will truly test the young wolverine defense. Shoelace looks for a big game and to stay off the injured list.

    Florida Routes FAU

    Rainey Gator Clap.JPG

    Score.JPG

Florida found their grove early and never looked back. The speed of the Gator offense was just too much for Florida Atlantic. Chris Rainey hauled in a couple of long passes and HB Jeff Demps gashed the FAU defense on several locations. Up 28-7 heading into the second half, we decided to give FR QB Jeff Driskel his first playing. It was a rough start for Driskel as his first pass was an interception. That would be his only mistake. He went on to complete his last 8 passes and walked away with 3 TD on the game. The schedule gets considerably harder from here. Next week we travel to Oregon State to face the Beavers.

    Players of the Game:
    Offense - QB Jeff Driskel 8/9 195 yards 3TD 1INT 358.6 QB Rating
    Defense - LB Jonathon Bostic 12 Tackles 2 TFL 1 Sack 1 FF 1 FR 1 DEFL

Coach Bravejaf and the Georgia Bulldogs kicked off the season with a bang. Rival Georgia Tech was taken to the woodshed in this opening game. Aaron Murray had a solid performance against the Yellow Jackets, completing 11 of 13 passes for 167 yards. His 11 completions included 3 TD passes, including 2 to Rantavius Wooten. Murray also avoided turning over the ball. HB #1 Carlton Thomas also had a big game, rushing for 138 yards and 2 TD on 19 carries.

The defensive side out performed the offensive side. The Bulldogs forced 4 turnovers, including 2 takeaways returned for TD. Christian Robinson picked off a terrible pass by Tervin Washington. It went right to Robinson who out ran tacklers to score the TD. The other defensive TD was scored by Christian Smith who picked off an option pitch at the end of the game. Safety Shawn Williams had the other 2 interceptions.

The Bulldogs face a tough test next week with Michigan coming to town. After that they have another difficult test, taking on Oregon in Eugene.

When you read the score you assume we breezed through this game . But let me tell you we were plenty nervous the entire 1st QTR. We open the game by fumbling the KO return and 3 plays later we are down 7-0. Then after getting 3 first downs running the ball, our RS Frosh QB Phil Sims (it was a coin flip between him and RS Soph AJ McCarron for the starters role as both are 86 ovr) throws his 1st career pass, and promptly gets his 1st career INT. The defense was able to get a stop and we try Sim's 2nd career pass, and get his 2nd career pick. I started to have a real bad feeling about the way this game was unfolding. Fortunately the defense held, and Sim's 3rd career pass he hit Brandon Gibson on a 79 yard catch and run TD for his 1st career TD and a 7-7 game with 1:47 left in the 1st QTR. From there the defense dominated and the talent level began to show as HB T Richardson ran for 2 2nd QTR TD's (15yds & 64yds), CB D Milliner returned a pick 47 yds, and WR B Gibson caught his 2nd TD right before half from 2nd team QB McCarron. The 2nd half was a clock eating display by the backups. Overall the defense really showed giving up just 3 1st downs, 162 total yards (82 coming in the 2nd half vs our backups on a R Alpin to T Stockmeyer post pass deep down the middle) and gettin 3 picks. The O-line dominated as well paving the way for 325 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs

Akron came into the game as one of the worst rated teams in the nation. They showed their fans there may be hope for the season. The Zip defense intercepted Joe Bauserman 3 times in the first half. The Buckeye offense had trouble getting going and was only up 14-0 at the half. The buckeye defense was stifling, pitching a shutout and forcing 3 turnovers. DEs Nathan Williams and John Simon put pressure on Akron QB Nicely all game.

    Washington - 42
    Fresno State - 24

This game started out extremely frustrating as Fresno State kept taking back the lead throughout the first half. The passing game for Washington was non-existant and the running game for both teams was flourishing. Much of the first half was back and forth with a solid running game on both sides. However, Coach FacePlant City put together a great 2nd half strategy for the Washington defense and made important stops throughout.

After the stressful first half, the realization came across the entirety of the stadium that HB Chris Polk was having a monster of a game. Polk took 27 carries and went for 205 yards and 5 touchdowns. Nearly every time Washington was in the red zone, Polk was ready to punch it in whether it be from the 20 or from the 1 yard line. Even outside of the red zone Polk was fantastic as he had two 40+ yard runs for TDs.

The second half took the heart out of Fresno State and ended up being somewhat of a blow out at the end.

"We played a great game defensively in the second half, and kept producing on offense," said Coach FacePlant City, "But during this bye week we will be working on our passing game as it was horrendous throughout this game. We've got a tough one coming against LSU."

Washington also acquired two recruits in the first week. Two solid three star players. More to come soon.

The shutout says it all, 13 TFL, 7 sacks, 1 pick 6 in the fourth quarter and Air Force was helpless all game. Even with the 3 interceptions I threw giving them some good field position. Offensively we need work as it wasn't until the 4th quarter that I felt like we got some things going. Too inconsistent the rest of the game.
