    LSU - 51
    SMU - 6

LSU begins the season by beating SMU very soundly. The Tigers were able to move the ball at will, putting up good yardage in the air and on the ground. Mettenberger looked very sharp all game, completing 11/14 passes. The defense played well, but was perhaps a bit too reckless. Nearly all of SMU's yardage came off of missed interceptions or QB scrambles after he was flushed out of the pocket.

The Tigers recorded a staggering 9 sacks on the day. Star defensive end Sam Montgomery tied the NCAA record for sacks in a single game with 6. Had he not been pulled out of the game early, he may have been able to set a new mark at a point that would never have been broken.

Jarvis Landry looks like he may be making a push for the #2 WR job, breaking a bubble screen for a 63 yard TD.

Ford was able to beat out Ware for the starting RB spot this year, and made the most of it, running for 109 yards on 16 attempts. Ware reached 60 yards on 14 carries (albeit with the second team). Speedster Alfred Blue got 36 yards on 4 carries, and Randle had a trio of runs for 26 yards.

Next week, the Tigers will host Ohio State in a game that has National Championship implications and looks to be the game of the week.

Not much offense on either side of the ball as Oregon State adjusts to some new players on offense. Defense picks a pitch and takes it to the house. Jenkins goes down with a game ending injury in third
quarter keeping him under 100 yds.

    Michigan dominates under the lights

    #11 Michigan 41
    Navy 0

Michigan opened the 2012 season under the lights in Ann Arbor and thrashed the Navy Midshipmen. Navy only gained 2 first downs and 24 total yards of offense. The UofM defense dominated, causing 2 turnovers and shutting down the Navy triple option. On offense they were led by Senior QB Denard Robinson who passed for 87 yards, and ran for 66 and 2 TDs. HB Hopkins had 122 yards rushing and a TD before missing the rest of the game with a non serious injury. True Freshman WR Timmons had a 51 yard reception, the first of his career. Michigan now hits the road to the West coast to take on the Washington Huskies next week.

Apparently the boost to QB accuracy wasn't enough to let them complete a pass, lol.

Abolish and Brave are both in dynasty games, not sure if either is for this league.

West Virginia grabbed an early 7-3 lead in the 'Shoe. But, the Buckeyes would rally for 45 straight points behind a balanced attack. The Bucks put up 300 yards in the first half, on the legs of Jr HB Jamaal Berry. Fr QB Braxton Miller showed some poise in his first game, registering no turnovers and completing an 80 yard bomb to Jr WR "Philly" Brown. On defense, the Buckeyes showed speed everywhere, hawking the ball all game. Most of the 220 yards the Buckeyes allowed were given up by the bomb squad, who were in the game midway through the 3rd quarter. Next up for the Buckeyes is LSU.

    Georgia 49
    Army 0

Georgia kicked off the season with a bang when freshman Seay returned the opening kick for a 98-yard TD. On the next drive Georgia forced an Army turnover. MLB Robinson grabbed the interception from the Army QB, one of Robinson's two picks on the day. The Georgia run game controlled the rest of the game. HB1 Thomas and HB2 Crowell combined for 32 carries 212 yards and 4 TD. Crowell won the yardage battle 116 to 96. The other big offensive play was a 72 yard pass from QB Murray to WR2 Brown. As for the Bulldogs' defense, Georgia played well but this was expected against a weaker team. Army managed just 7 first downs and 120 yards. The run game really hurt Army. They rushed it 30 times for just 32 yards. Most of those yards came from QB Steelman who led the team with 22 yards.

Florida hosted to California to kickoff the new year. Our offense boasts new starters at the WR1, WR2, HB, and QB positions. So this may take a while to get used to. Solomon Patton and Quinton Dunbar are the new faces at WR and true to Gator form are a pair of speedsters. At HB, Mike Gillislee has large shoes to fill with the departure of Demps. The Gator offense will be led by true freshman QB Patrick Wilson. Wilson gets the nod over sophomore Jeff Driskel because he better fits my offense. Wilson had an up and down game. It started off with a pick 6 on his first drive, his first of 2 INTs on the day. He would settle down and finish with 265 yards and 3 TD. Wilson was asked about the INT's after the game, "High School linebackers in Alabama were not as athletic and could not jump as high as I saw out there today." The Gator defense was very disruptive, collecting 7 sacks on the day. Next week is a very tough matchup with USC.

Oregon opens the season against BYU with a win.

The Ducks implemented a new offense on the season and its newness showed in the 1st quarter. They were only able to put up 3 points. Things started to click a little more in the 2nd quarter with 2 TDs and 1 FG. Darron Thomas still looked a little confused running the offense. He was intercepted 2 times and sacked 4 times on the afternoon. The passing game is going to be a big part of this season's success so Thomas is going to have to be a little more effective throwing the ball. With the offense looking to throw more the running game suffered a little. The RBs totaled only 106 yards but still found the endzone twice.

The defense was able to play well until late in the 4th quarter. They surrendered a long time consuming drive that ended with BYU scoring on a 14 yard screen pass. There might be some growing pains early on this side of the ball also. Two true freshmen are starting at key positions. Bryce Glover will man the LE position and Phil Cunningham gets the nod a MLB. Glover was able to make an impact in his first game with 2 sacks and a FF. Cunningham recorded 2 tackles and 1 deflection.

The Ducks will next travel to Iowa for a showdown with kicktothethroat.

    Key Stats:

    Darron Thomas - 19-35 194 yards 1 TD 2 INTs 6 carries 12 yards 1 TD
    Josh Huff - 6 catches 43 yards 1 TD
    John Boyett - 7 tackles 1 TFL 1 INT 1 Deflection 1 FR 1 TD
    Bryce Glover - 5 tackles 4 TFLs 2 sacks 1 FF

    Washington - 14
    Florida State - 7

Literally the most defensive game I have ever seen my team play, which is a good thing for the future. It took two long drives to get 14 points on the intense Florida defense. HB Chris Polk had over 200 yards on the ground with his 97 overall rating and his overall improved O-line. Washington's defense seems to be way better this year and is looking to dominate that side of the ball. Should be a fun season.
