USC (17) vs. Arizona St. (15)

USC survives a scare from the unranked Sun Devils at home.

Early, USC looked to have the game in control going up 7-0, 14-0 and 17-3 at the half.

After the half the USC offense stalled but the defense came to play until the final minute when the Devils were able to score on a 15 yard TD pass. Needing a 2 point conversion, the Devils inexplicably run the end around and are stuffed at the line.

Following a USC onside kick, the Trojans kneel down 3 times and take the 2 point victory.

Next week, the Trojans are on a bye before hitting a 5 week grind in the schedule which include back to back road games against #6 Stanford and #16 Utah, and then a trio of home games against an unranked, but one loss Arizona team, #12 Notre Dame and the always tough rivalry game against UCLA.

Wins against Stanford and Utah would seemingly wrap up the Pac-12 South for the second year in a row for the USC Trojans.

Oregon wins a shout-out against Arizona

Oregon gets revenge for last season's loss against Arizona. Oregon decided to change things up this week and started the game out throwing the ball. It was an effective tactic with Oregon taking a lead into halftime 17-7. The second half game-plan was going to be a heavy dose of the run since Arizona started putting pressure on Thomas late in the first half. The Wildcat defense was ready for this change-up and stuffed the rushing attack. This allowed Arizona's offense to work the Duck's in the third quarter. They scored 14 points to pull within 3 at the end of the quarter. Oregon decided to go back to the passing game in the 4th and this was the deciding factor in the victory. The Ducks put 16 on the board and won going away.

    Key Stats:

    Darron Thomas - 21 -28 236 yards 3 TDs 7 carries 35 yards
    Nick James - 6 catches 100 yards
    Erick Dargan - 10 tackles 2 deflections
    Phil Cunningham - 5 tackles 1 interception

Tennessee was fresh off of a Georgia upset and were looking to do the same to the Gators. The jumped out to an early 14-7 lead. The Gator defense lock down from there and HB Mike Gilleslee ran for over 200 yards to setup a huge SEC matchup with Georgia next week.

    Georgia 37
    Vanderbilt 0

After a terrible peformance by the Georgia defense in week 7, the Bulldogs' defense completed a shut out against lowly Vanderbilt. The first 10 points can be credited to the defense. On Vandy's first drive the defense/special teams forced a fumble on the punt. This set up a field goal. On the second drive Vandy's QB Thoroughgood was stripped and Jarvis Jones recovered the fumble. He ran back the fumble recovery for a 34 yard score. The offense finally put points on the board when Murray threw a TD to TE #2 Jay Rome from 40 yards out. The Bulldogs added two additional scores in the second quarter to make it a 31-0 lead going into halftime. Most of the starters were pulled early in the third quarter and the backups didn't pick up many yards. The defensive starters stayed in most of the game and kept Vandy from putting points on the board. In total Georgia sacked the QB five times and forced three turnovers. The Commodores managed just 58 yards passing and 25 yards rushing (including negative yards from QB sacks).

Georgia's schedule gets much tougher in weeks 9 and 10. The reigning national champions Notre Dame will come to Athens in week 9, followed by the Florida game in Jacksonville in week 10. The winner of the Georgia/Florida game will likely represent the SEC East in the conference championship game. Tennessee also has an outside shot but after losing to Florida they have two conference losses.

Off. Player of the Game - Tavarres King 5 receptions 126 yards 1 TD

Def. Player of the Game - Jarvis Jones 3 tackles 1 sack 1 fumble recovery 1 defensive TD

Rebels Snag Win, Beat Rival Bama 38-28

Ole Miss used a 14 point 4th quarter to storm back against Saban's Alabama squad Saturday afternoon. The game went back and forth for 3 quarters, with Bama starting to take control early in the third. Randall Mackey steadied the Ole Miss offense, going for 15-25 for 197 yards 1TD and 1INT. Jeff Scott ran for 101 yards and 2 scores, though much of the day he was held in check by a stout Alabama defense. Defensively, Cameron Whigham had 3 sacks for Ole Miss, as the unit combined for 6 total. Ole Miss now hits .500 on the season, evening their record at 3-3.

    #20 Washington - 10
    #19 Oregon State - 0

Featured as the Game of the Week, this match-up was a battle to maintain a spot in the top 20. The game ended up being at the excitement level of last year's game. Washington HB Chris Polk attained the only TD of the match and kept the T.O.P. in Washington's corner. Washington's starting QB Keith Price was knocked out of the game in the first half and was substituted by QB Montana who went on to have a great performance. This game, yet again, was all defensive and very very little offense. The Huskie defense, who were obliterated in their past two games, decided to play today and completely shut-out the Beaver offense.

Washington is looking to improve their offense and especially their Red Zone offense, due to being in position to score many times this last game and other games before it.

Many 4-Star recruits were present at the game, mainly those already with a soft commit to Washington.

Washington looks to keep rolling next week and put their 2-game losing streak behind them.

    GG bawvu!

    #24 Iowa 38
    Northwestern 12

Iowa gets the win on the road in a game that HB Marcus Coker ran for 100+ yards and 3 TDs and HB DeAndre Johnson ran for 100+ yards and 2 TDs. Northwestern's only TD came in the fourth quarter after a successful fake punt (in which I was watching and ready for ) set up the 6 yard TD run.
