Virginia punches ticket to ACC title game with big 4th quarter

Down by 3 with 6:06 to play we were faced with a 3rd and 8 in our own territory. Virginia Tech brought pressure and pressed the corners, the safety tried to make a play on the out route but was a split second too late and Dominique Terrell took it 74 yards to the house to put us up by 4. An interception on VT's next possession gave us great field possession and we were able to add 7 more to put our lead at 11 and capture all of the momentum.

The receivers had their way with the opposing defensive backs in this game. Dominique Terrell had an All-American type performance in what was one of the biggest games in UVA history. His performance was not the only one that raised eyebrows in this game. The Hokies true freshman WR Patrick Holland made big play after big play for them, catching 9 balls on the day. Holland from the state of Virginia was a huge miss for our recruiting class last year when he signed with the Hokies. We weren't sure how long it would take him to make an impact but we wouldn't have guessed he would have had a performance like this against us in year 1.

Despite trailing most of the first half, a late first half push and strong second half pushed the Yellow Jackets past rival Georgia to keep the BCS dream alive

Stat of the game: The Yellow Jackets were extremely aggressive, going for it 3 times on 4th and goal from inside the one yard line and converting twice. This high risk move proved to be the a huge factor in the Georgia Tech win

The Huskies have not looked sharp lately, as they started this game in a 10-0 hole. They were a hail mary at the end of the half away from going into the break without the lead. Coming out in the second half, however, the team looked completely different and ended up winning pretty big.

With this win the Huskies finish their 2nd consecutive regular season undefeated. They will host the PAC-12 title game against the winner of Colorado/Utah... A potential national championship appearance will be on the line.

Nittany Lions Sleep Walk Through First Half, Pull Away From Eastern Michigan Late.

The Penn St Nittany Lions dominated the line of scrimmage against lowly Eastern Michigan, but needed a late surge to pull away from them 31-3. The Nittany Lions ran at, around, and over E. Michigan throughout the game. Even without HB Silas Reed, Penn St ran for 226 yards on the day. However, the passing game continued to struggle. QB Paul Jones finished 9-21 for 194 yards, two TD's and two horrible interceptions. These poor decisions left PSU with only a 3-0 lead at half time.

The Nittany Lions finally woke up in the second half. Jones hit TE Gary Gilliam for a 16 yard TD early in the third quarter. Jones then hit WR Shawney Kersey with a 61 yard TD to solidify their lead. PSU then put the game in the hands of their offensive line and HB Bill Belton to chew up clock and yards. Belton scored from 5 yards out to make the score 24-3 late in the game. The reserves came in for mop up duty, and PSU CB Jesse Della Valle took advantage of his chance to return an interception 68 yards for a TD to give us the final score of 31-3. With the win, the Nittany Lions finish the season 9-3 and 6-3 in the Big Ten. They are projected to take on Florida in the Outback Bowl to finish the season.

The return of HB Tony Jones showed what the offense was missing for 5 weeks, as he tallied up 158 total yards and a TD, then hurt his shoulder like a bitch for 8 more weeks. QB Nick Hirschman played like dogshit even though he hit WR Paul Richardson for 3 big TD passes, but the 2 INT (1 for a pick 6) and 3 sacks really killed any momentum. Hirschman was only outshone by the entire Buffalo defense as they allowed Utah QB Jordan Wynn to compete passes to 10 different receivers today with 2 TDs. That wasn't as embarrasing as allowing backup HB Harvey Langi to average 7.2 yards-per-carry on his way to 131 yards and 2 TDs. The CU defense was pancaked 15 times today by Utah's dominant offensive line.

edit: And Paul Richardson muffed a punt early in the fourth after he scored and the defense forced a Utah three and out. Guess what Utah did after they recovered? Turned it right back over via interception. Then 4 plays later I threw another pick. Then they scored the TD.

Maryland BARELY escaped the upset in Boston today thanks to a HORRIBLE first half performance highlighted by HB Pickett going out with an injury for FOUR WEEKs. This pretty much bones our chance of winning the ACC title game now... He was having a Heisman season as well. Back to the game, QB Brown actually started performing in the 3rd and would go own to have a very big game throwing for 357 yards hitting on a lot of big plays down field. The game would come down to a 2 minute drive that would see Maryland scoring on a HB Draw with 30 seconds left to take the 4 point lead. Boston College through a last second hail mary which was in the hands of a BC WR in the endzone before being prodded out by a Maryland defender THANK GOD. Maryland now trudges into the ACC title game without their best offensive player.. we will need some magic in Carolina next week.

Check out this sick catch, may be the best catch I have ever seen! That is strength!

Arizona St picks up a victory in the battle for the Territorial Cup. The Wildcats went on an 11 play, 74 yard drive to start the game for a TD, but were stymied for the rest of the game. The Sun Devils picked up 2 TD through the air to secure the victory.

    Northwestern - 41
    Illinois - 14

And it wasn't that close. I went into kill the clock mode at the start of the 4th qtr to get done in time for the Giants game.

With the win, Northwestern clinches a berth in the Big 10 Title game...and low and behold...will face Illinois in a rematch. Looking good for NWest to make it to the Rose Bowl.

The Iowa Hawkeyes took out their frustration on instate rival Iowa State, by hanging 59 points on Iowa State in what was Iowa's best game of the season. Morris had three sacks on defense and the Andre Stewart era began for the offense as the freshman QB came on in relief of Ruddock after a pick to throw for 289 yards and several touchdowns in the easy win.
