A balanced offense and strong defense helped the Nittany Lions overcome conference foe Northwestern. HB Curtis Dukes struck first with a 4 yard score. Northwestern bounced back with a field goal but that would be their only points in this game. Short rushing scores were the key for Penn State's offense. FB Zach Zwinak QB Robert Bolden and HB Silas Redd each rushed in touchdowns from inside the 5 yard line. Bolden also passed to Shawney Kersey for a 37 yard score. Bolden, Kersey and the rest of the offensive starters sat out the 4th quarter with a large lead. Next up Penn State is a game against rival Minnesota.

Georgia moves its SEC record to 2-1 with a win over Vanderbilt. Neither side of the ball was particularly good for Georgia, but they ended up with a nice victory. The Bulldogs only threw 1 pass in the entire second half.

Michgian falls short of victory in Madison this afternoon. Turnovers and the loss of starter Devin Gardner were too much to overcome for the Wolverines. Denard Robinson continued to disappoint as he threw a critical interception on the goalline. Hopefully for Michigan Gardener returns for next week's game against Michigan State.

Not much of a challenge today as Miamia dominated the game, the Wolfpack had a few stroked of luck but not enough to get them the W. YOung had a great day passing as he found open receivers left and right. Freshmen receivers Weber and Tremblay both had outstanding performances. Storm Johnson had an insane TD run that is highlighted in The Wire.

Miami goes above .500 and is now 3-2 (2-0). An easy warmup up vs Duke before taking on Florida State in what is always a close rivalry game.

    Stats

    J. Young 24/42, 395 yards, 4 TD

    S. Johnson 13 Att, 67 yards, 2 TD, 1 Rec, 6 yards, TD

    B. Weber 8 Rec, 151 yards, TD

    B. Tremblay 5 Rec, 91 yards, TD

    A. Samuel 10 Tackles, TFL, Sack

    J. Reid 7 Tackles, 2 FF

    D. Fuller 5 Tackles, 3 Sacks

"LSU survives in Starkville with offensive showcase"

LSU needed to score 49 points in their highest offensive output this season. Matt McDainel lived up to his Heisman hype finally in game 5. He struck on a 80 bomb to speedy receiver Kendron Boone. Miss. St. answered in the second quarter with a scramble by QB D. Stegall. LSU struck back on the next possession again to Boone, this time on a 42 yard strike. Miss. St. took the lead on the #21 ranked Tigers with a pair of touchdowns both on passes from Stegall. LSU opened the second half driving down the field and scoring on a McDaniels pass to Simon. Miss. St. added a FG to take the led back. RB Mike Ford got involved in the action after the MSU FG. He scored on a 34 yard pass from McDainels, then after a quick 3 and out from MSU, Ford ran for a 47 yard TD. With the score 35-24 after 3 quarters, it looked like LSU had the game in hand. Stegall took the game over passing all over the LSU secondary and leading them to a score and 2-point conversion to make the score 35-32. Ford then fumbled on LSU's next possession, and MSU took advantage by scoring on a 37 yard pass to C. Smith with 0:54 seconds to go. On the next possession, McDaniels looked to Boone again to bail out the Tigers. McDaniels threw a deep out to Boone and he took it for a 55 yard TD to take the lead. LSU took a fumble recovery in for a TD to make it 49-39 final. McDaniel went 20-31 for 459 yards passing with 5 TDs and 1 INT. Mike Ford rushed for 110 yards on 12 attempts and 2 total TDs. Kendron Boone was the leading receiver catching 7 passes for 223 yards and 3 TDs.

FSU relied on their running game and defense to put away a pesky Yellow Jacket team. Brennan Marks and Kevin Lester each had a TD run in the first half. But the offense would also struggle in the red zone a couple other times, settling for Andy Anthony FG's. QB Scott Jones who had not thrown an INT up until last week, now has 3INT's in the last 2 games. We need to settle him down. It seems he is either great or struggles. We need more consistency from that position. LB Christian Jones is excelling after his move to starting ROLB. He added 5 tackles and a sack. GT was held out of the endzone until the beginning of the 4th quarter when they had a quick 3 play 80 yard drive, but that would be all out of them. FSU improves to 5-0 on the season and play Wake Forest next week.
