    Notre Dame Blasts USC

    # 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 38
    #10 USC Trojans 7
South Bend, IN -- Call it the luck of the Irish, call it the wearing of the special Kelly Green uniforms, but everything just seemed to go Notre Dame's way this afternoon in South Bend. It was a good thing too because the hated USC Trojans were in town. The Irish didn't forget last season's dramatic fourth quarter comeback and they kept the pedal to the metal all afternoon. "Last year really hurt. We were up by a few touchdowns and they were able to fight back and eventually beat us. That wasn't going to happen this season." Senior WR Davarus Daniels stated after the game. The Irish were able to get it going early by stopping the Trojans on their first drive and following with the first touchdown of the game on a short pass to TE Ben Koyack. The Irish were again able to hold the Trojans on their next drive and followed with a 73 yard play action strike from QB Reggie Williams to Sr Wideout Davarus Daniels.
The wheels started to fall off for the Trojans early in the second quarter when they were able to finally stop an Irish offensive drive only to fumble while catching the punt and having the Irish scoop up the ball for another touchdown to make the score 21-0 at the 6:42 minute mark in the second.
Trojans fumble the catch on an Irish punt
The main reason for the Irish success this afternoon was them winning the turnover battle. The Trojans turned the ball over often and in key areas which really shortened the field for the Irish offense. The Irish's ground game continued to play well. George Atkinson was able to pile up 121 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries including this 64 yard touchdown near the end of the second quarter.
The second half was much more quiet than the first which was due partly to the Irish really grinding it out on the ground to chew up clock. Irish HB Frank Pierre saw the bulk of his 16 carries for 74 yards during this half of the game.
Next week the Irish cap their season on the road against Boston College. All Irish faithful turn and wait to see what the Irish bowl fate will be this holiday season. Good game Huskie. The rivalry continues to grow, I am sure you'll be anxious for revenge next season.

    Georgia 31
    South Carolina 21

Georgia only reached the end zone in the second quarter, but they achieved that feat three times. South Carolina entered the second quarter with a 7-6 lead but Georgia took the lead after a miscue by the Gamecocks. QB Pickens attempted a swing pass to the halfback but a Georgia defender deflected the pass. It was a backward pass so the ball was live. Georgia's OLB Porter scooped the fumble and scored a TD. The next two touchdowns were scored by Georgia's offense. Mason hooked up with Seay on two long play-action passes, including an 80 yard TD with 6 seconds on the clock before half time. South Carolina was down 31-7 nearing the end of the 3rd quarter, but scored a TD and two point conversion to cut the lead to 16. South Carolina scored again in the fourth quarter but could not convert the two point conversion. Georgia got the onside kick with 5 minutes left and were able to run out the clock.

Georgia is finished with its regular season schedule so they will next face LSU. The Tigers and Bulldogs are still in the mix for the BCS Championship berth, but it depends on how the Big 10 teams fare.

Offensive Player of the Game - Sanford Seay 4 receptions 152 yards 2 TD

Defensive Player of the Game - Jay Porter 2 tackles 1 fumble recovery 1 defensive TD

Iowa took a 10-0 early lead and looked to be on their way to a blowout, then the MSU defense tightened up for the rest of the game, making Iowa go 2-8 on third down. MSU's offense also put together some good drives and put themselves back into the game but it wouldn't be enough to keep HB Bo Keller and Iowa from winning this game at home. Keller rushed for 163 yards and 2 TDs to get POTG.
