Cavaliers drop #5 Clemson in Death Valley
Just what the doctor ordered. After a disappointing start to the season to say the least, the Cavaliers came out and played inspired football on the road. Despite losing our starting QB Carl Fields in the second half due to injury, we marched down the field converting huge 3rd downs and adding two TD's in the 4th quarter to take the lead by 7 with 2:38 to play. Clemson reached our 4 yard line for a 1st and goal with under 35 seconds to play but our defense rose to the occasion shutting down the Clemson offense on 4 consecutive downs to get the ball back and take a knee.
This was a very tight game from start to finish and I really liked how we were able to run the ball in the second half when their secondary was pressuring our wide receivers. Some people will be calling for a QB change after David Watford came in the 4th quarter and lead us to victory. However, Carl Fields will remain our starter if he is able to suit up next Saturday. A huge game at home next week against Coach gwill and his Tarheels is no time to test the waters with a new QB.

Oh man! A four down 'goal line' stop at the 4 yard line to seal the game? Dramatic finish....was your heart beat elevated a bit there? Lol

    Georgia Tech Wins Three Straight
The Yellow Jackets entered tonight's game with a two game win streak and looking to extend it too three. The Cardinals looked to derail Georgia Tech and make them 0-3 and in non-conference play.
The story of the game was the redzone defense of Georgia Tech. Stanford entered the redzone 4 time but was forced to kick three field goals. The rushing offense offense of the Yellow Jackets wore down the Cardinals and kept their All-American linebacking core from making an impact.
Coach Gyrene said he was happy with the grit his team showed. He said the only thing his team needs to work on is killing the drives of opposing offense. When a defense has nearly a 50% 3rd down conversion, you are going to have a hard time beating teams in this league."

    BYU 20
    #8 Colorado 45

BYU frustrated the Buffaloes for most of the first half in Boulder today, before giving way to the home team for the rest of the game. BYU got on the board first late in the first after their long second possession only resulted in a 35 yard FG (2:12). The Buffaloes would answer back on their own second possession after being shut down on the first. KR DD Goodson would return the ensuing kickoff 101 yards for the first TD of the game (2:02) and a 7-3 Colorado lead.

BYU would rally though and get into the enzone in the second quarter on a HB M. Clark 4 yard TD run (5:17) to go ahead 10-7. Colorado would answer with a 43 yard FG to tie the game at 10-10 with 3:31 left in the half. This started a 17 point run to close out the half for Colorado. QB Justin Jackson threw TD passes of 23 and 73 yards, the first to TE Wallace Freeman and the second to WR Tyler McCullough. Halftime score was 24-10 Colorado.

The only score in the third quarter came later when BYU was able to put together a decent drive but only came away with a 20 yard FG (2:43) that made the score 24-13 Buffaloes.

Colorado would score 21 more points in the fourth quarter, including a 73 yard pick six by CB Yuri Wright, to BYU's 7 points scored in the fourth.

QB Justin Jackson had an impressive game completing 8/12 passes for 147 yards and 3 TDs, while carrying 6 times for 59 yards, as Colorado is starting to sprinkle in some option plays for him to help utilize his skill set a bit more.

Penn St Dominates Despite Misleading Score
    #24 Auburn ( CPU )- 21
    at
    #1 Penn St ( dj illmatic 23 )- 28
The Penn St Nittany Lions dominated their first game since being voted the top team in the nation, although the second team defense let the Auburn Tigers make it appear much closer. Penn St came out early moving the ball extremely well, but were unable to put points on the board. The Nittany Lions finally cashed in when QB Paul Jones hit WR Matt Zanellato for a 6 yard TD. PSU would add to the score late in the first half when Jones found WR Jim Thompson for a 15 yard TD. This gave Penn St a 14-0 half time lead.
The second half would begin like the first with Penn St moving the ball with ease. Jones and Zanellato connected for their second TD of the game. This time from 15 yards out to make it 21-0. Auburn finally got on the board when QB Kiehl Frazier hit TE Brandon Williams for an 8 yard TD. Early in the fourth, PSU CB Devin Pryor intercepted a pass by Frazier and returned it 73 yards for a TD and a 28-7 lead. With about four minutes to go, the Nittany Lions pulled their starters. Auburn took advantage by scoring two late TD's, passing TD's from Frazier to TE Patrick Young and WR Jaylon Denson. With the win, Penn St moves to 6-0 as they travel to Indiana next week.

    24-7
Wisconsin took the trip to Kinnick Stadium to take on the Iowa Hawkeye's in a Big 10 game. We were already without our leading rusher Melvin Gordon things could get a whole lot worse. In the 2nd QTR after throwing a TD pass, Badger QB Joe Brennan took a vicious hit from SS Nico Law and left the game and didn't return. Even without their starting QB and RB, the Badgers found a way to defeat the stingy Iowa Hawkeye's 24-7 in a sold out cold and damp day in Iowa. Soph Vonte Jackson ran for 117 yards and 2td's to lead the badgers to victory. FR Zach Davis chipped in with 73 yards rushing as the Badgers improve to 5-0 in the season. Wisconsin now has a much needed BYE week. After the BYE ,the next 3 games on the Badgers schedule are against ranked teams. First up for the Badgers is a trip to Evanston IL to take on the 13th ranked Northwestern Wildcats.

Coach GMONEY had this to say after the game. " That was a good win under difficult circumstances. 1 game at a time is our motto here in Wisconsin We don't look ahead to playing anyone. If a team is on our schedule, we will scout and prepare against them and we look forward to it. We don't get to involved into who plays who or who is on top of the USA Today, CNN, ESPN or any other Poll. We just play and play hard and let the chips fall where they may."

Cal Escapes after 3 Interceptions against a 3-0 Temple team

Cal got out to an early lead 10-0 in this game against Temple in traditional fashion. The Cal offense utilized their balanced attacked to move the ball down the field very effective. QB Kyle Boehm spread the ball around to 5 different receivers in this game while RB Daniel Lasco carried the ball a total of 24 times for 125 yards.

This close score was a result of two factors. One, Boehm threw three interceptions trying to force the ball over the middle deep in Temple territory. These turnovers easily cost the Call offense anywhere from 9 to 21 points and made for a nail biter at the end tat saw the Cal defense come up huge on two drives. The second was Temple's ability to keep their offense on the field converting 7/12 third down conversions. Cal was often forced to call timeout's to get substitutions in.

Temple star RB Keith Harper ran for 121 yards on 22 carries which easily is the most yards any RB has had against the Cal defense. This Temple offense came into the game averaging 45 points a game so don't sleep on the Owls this year folks, they were not going to roll over against a larger program easily. They fought to the bitter end and kept this a close game when it shouldn't have been.
