Alabama improves to 2-0 after defeating Ohio State 23-17

Bama started out with the ball and quickly went down and scored on a 13 yard TD pass from Price to Fr WR Jones. The Tide found a lot of success through the Maryland I formation today, which is where Daniel Bryan got most of his big plays. He finished the game with 186 yards on 15 carries. WR Jon Fields was injured early in the game after converting a 3rd and 10 (Bama's only 3rd down conversion of the game), but was able to make an appearance late in the fourth catching a pass for 54 yards.

Ohio State was able to force a FG after a TD saving tackle on Fields' catch, and had one more chance with the ball with about 45 seconds left. Some may question their decision to run the ball a few times on that final drive, but it got them in position to take a few shots that were narrowly missed.

The defense played exceptional, "bend don't break" defense forcing 5 interceptions out of the QB Braxton Miller, 2 of which were in the endzone.

    Tennessee 27
    Iowa 7

It was a rainy night in Knoxville, but that didn't slow down the Volunteer aerial attack and it also didn't stop the Volunteer DB's from ballhawking as they picked off 3 Iowa passes en route to a 27-7 win. QB Nic Mayfield was 14-17 for 216 yards. Mayfield hit on his first 9 passes and was in tune with his receivers all day. HB Tom Smith rushed for 76 yards and a TD on 18 carries and Devrin Young rushed for 39 yards on 7 carries. The Volunteers O looked good when the O-line held up. It's early in the year but this the worst showing the O-line had all year; giving up 9 sacks. On the defensive side CB Tino Thomas had 2 INT's. Tennessee had the Hawkeyes scoreless through three quarters until a 4 yard TD run.

Next Week the Volunteers leave the comfort of home to head to the west coast and taking on the Huskies.

    #7 Michigan 24
    #1 Oregon 3

Michigan came into this season looking to make a statement by facing the number 1 team in the country. Michigan came out conservative on offense punting the first few possessions. The defense would dominate nearly all game, shutting down the run, and coming up with 5 INTS! Michigan finally struck with a deep ball to WR Issac Timmons for 7:

Michigan would control the game from here on out with turnovers and consistent offensive clock control. QB Thomas had a great game throwing NO ints for the first time in awhile... Michigan now faces USF before a huge matchup on the road at #3 Alabama.

HovaTheGodMC -- Late to the party on the writeup, but I wanted to get it in there.

South Bend, IN -- The Irish were able to grind out a win against a stingy Penn State team which mounted an impressive comeback to make this game a lot closer than it was on paper. The Irish fell down early when Penn State QB Daniel Archer hit WR Brandon Walker on a 76 yard touchdown pass to open up the scoring. Irish HB George Atkinson was able to notch the next touchdown on the board to even the score to cap a great Irish drive.

After the initial scoring, it was all Irish till late in the fourth quarter. The Irish controlled the game much of the second quarter but were not able to score touchdowns at the end of their drives and had to settle for a pair of field goals from Drew Freeman. In the third quarter Atkinson was able to find the score sheet again catching a beautiful 55 yard pass from Reggie Williams to put the score at 20-7 headed into the fourth quarter. The Irish scored again on another long pass, this time a 56 yarder to TE Brett Wiggins to make the score 27-7 and seemed to seal it for the Irish.

However, as Lee Corso would say, "Not so fast my friend!" The Nittany Lions were able to strike back quickly on a 43 yard touchdown pass from Archer to Brandon Walker. The Lions caught the Irish off guard and kicked an onside kick which they recovered and quickly scored again on another pass to Brandon Walker, this time a 61 yarder which made the score 27-21.

The shell shocked Irish were able to pull it together and grid out the rest of the game on the ground to seal it. Next week the Irish face Iowa which should be another tough test for them.
