Colorado steals a win from #2 California in hostile territory this week to stay in the driver's seat for the Pac-12 title game and a possible NC appearance. This was a defensive battle and it was brutal for both teams early on. Colorado turned the ball over three times in the first half, including two HB Donta Abron fumbles, with two of the turnovers occurring in the red zone. Cal would also throw an interception killing one drive in the first half and both teams didn't do much of anything. The Golden Bears would get on the scoreboard first as time expired in the first half, with a 23 yard FG, after the Buffaloes had a good stand on the goal line.

Both teams turned the ball over and were just overall pretty sloppy, with receivers dropping passes and linemen not blocking in the run game. Colorado tied the game at 3-3 midway through the third quarter on a 50 yard FG by K Jerome Brown. Cal was intercepted on the next drive by CB Chris Summers and the Buffaloes had decent field position. The drive ended on a play action call where a Cal defensive back came untouched on the QB's blindside. He hit QB Justin Jackson, but was unable to compete the tackle, and Jackson hopped out of it and threw down the field to an open TE Erick Horne on the two yard line. Horne was able to fall into the end zone for the game's first TD on an 18 yard pass and a 10-3 Buffalo lead. California answered strong though and went on a great drive to answer which ended in their own TD pass, a 6 yarder to tie the game up at 10-10.

Colorado had a nice drive going in the fourth quarter and got into the red zone again before Jackson threw his second interception down there on another poor decision. California took over but was unable to do much, maybe picking up a first down, before they had to punt the ball away with a little over 2:00 to go. With both defenses playing pretty well a big play by either team would basically win this game. That play came on a third down with Jackson looking for a slant and an out route for the first down. With both of those covered he just threw it up deep to WR Bruce Vandermeulen and gave him a chance knowing it would be as good as a punt if it was picked. Vandermeulen rewarded him with a catch with two defenders on him and a 47 yard completion to set up a first and goal on the 2 or 3 yard line. Colorado would try to punch it in three times on the ground but was shutdown, the only good thing was that it forced Cal to burn all of its timeouts. The 21 yard FG left 4 or 5 seconds on the clock and gave Cal one play to go 80 yards after the touch back, the ball was swatted down and Colorado got the win.

    Good game.

Where do I start? Between the drops passes and the Colorado long ball this game did not go the Bears way. Time after time on third down Colorado was able to pick up first downs. The Cal offense on the other hand just couldn't get rolling. They did locate something on the touchdown drive that should have probably stuck to for the entire game but choose not to due to fear of turning it over - which was happening a lot in this game. Cal now hopes to at minimal get a BCS invite to a bowl after only dropping to #6 in the rankings. If Colorado is unable to win the Pac-12 CCG this would doom the Bears hopes for a BCS bowl. With the first loss of the season coming so late there is no chance to rebound.

Outside of three 40+ air raid completions Cal was all over Colorado like flies on shit. The last one, the back breaker with under :20 to go in the game was just nonsense. With about 3 seconds to swat the ball the safety choose to try and catch the ball even with me hitting the bumper button. There was no one he was outjumping the 6'4" WR... smh. I was 100% that I had stopped that last heroic drive and we would go to OT.
