    Notre Dame 17
    Michigan State 14
East Lansing, MI -- Notre Dame started off the season with a new look, running a west coast style offense due to lack of depth of WR and a plethora of talent with their offensive line and running backs. The Irish started out strong however a costly turnover in the red zone gave the Spartans the ball back. Michigan St was able to drive down the field and score the game's first touchdown to make the score 7-0. The Irish were able to bunker down on defense and hold down the Spartans however, they had to settle for a pair of field goals to make the score 7-6 Spartans at halftime.
The Irish came out in the third quarter and were able to get their first touchdown of the season off a Dan Hart rushing score. After a successful two point conversion the Irish took a 14-7 lead. In the fourth quarter the Irish continue to pound the ball and eat up clock. They were able to score another field goal, Edwin Bakers third of the game, and took a 17-7 lead. Michigan State was able to get another score with 2:13 left however the Irish never relinquished the ball and held on for the win.
Next week the Irish face the #7 ranked Penn State Nittnay Lions.

    #9 Alabama 44 - #18 Boise State 14
An interception thrown by Sophomore QB Dale Weiss gave a struggling Boise State offense some momentum as they were able to capatilize with a 4 yard TD run. Some great runs by Sophomore FB Mike Holmes set Alabama up for a 12 yard TD run by redshirt Senior Ben Gunn and a 51 yard FG Brian Smith.
Boise was able to take back the lead with a 22 yard TD pass, but the Bama defense shut them out for the rest of the game allowing the offense to put up some points. Following the Boise TD, Weiss hit redshirt Senior Jordan Green for a 39 yard TD pass, and Smith added another FG as time expired in the half.
    Second Half
Holmes opened up the second half with a nice 70 yard TD run as the defense continued to dominate. Redshirt Senior SS Trey Beck led the team in tackles with 10 (9 solo), a sack, and an interception. Beck nearly cribbed a punt where he reversed field and got to the edge but was pushed out around the 35 yard line. In the fourth quarter, Gunn and Holmes found the endzone for the second time of the night with 30 and 29 yard TD runs.
Weiss finished 8 of 12 for 222 yards and a TD, but also threw 2 very costly interceptions. Boise State was able to hold him to just 2 rushing yards despite 14 attempts, which may have opened up lanes for the other backs. Weiss will have to improve on being a running threat in order to not hold this offense back.

The Bulldogs offense underwent a dramatic change in the offseason. The team incorporated a spread playbook to suit new QB Justin Jackson. At least for the first game, this was a smooth transition. Jackson completed nearly every pass he threw and ended with 4 TD passes. Antonio Tolbert and Paul Jones were the recipient of two touchdowns each. Backup Seward, a JUCO transfer, also threw a TD pass. His was an 85-yard strike to Bush. This was the second 85+ yard TD by Bush. He returned the opening kick for a 96-yard TD. True freshman halfback Lewis played well in mop up duty, finishing with a team high 70 rushing yards. Starter Herron only got 3 carries but 1 was a 34 yard TD.

    Jackson 12-14 285 yards 4 TD/0 INT

    Lewis 13 carries 70 yards 1 TD

    Tolbert 4 receptions 129 yards 2 TD

Greenwood 8 tackles 4 tackles for a loss 1 interception

LSU won big against the ducks in their first game of the season. Sean Riley completed 11/19 passes for many many yards, a TD, and an interception, to a defensive lineman! Ray Green ran for 369 yards, and 3 TDs. Smith was the leading receiver, with 3 catches for 67 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Michael Parker sacked the quarterback four times. George Anderson had 3 FGs, and will probably win the groza again. This is a step in the right direction for the Tigers.

Somehow, the Buckeyes survived their trip to Bobby Dodd Stadium with a 27-17 road victory. GT's option game was stellar, as the Yellow Jacket offense line produced at least 1 pancake per play, the QB made miracle pitches, and the FB, a converted lineman, was able to morph through defenders. The Buckeye running game sucked, as the offensive lineman continuously ran past the players they were supposed to block. In the passing game, RS So QB Davis was pretty solid. The Buckeye receiving corps is pretty good this year. It's unfortunate that they don't have a QB to get them the ball this year.

Washington gets off to a strong start blowing out the Pittsburgh Panthers. For some reason the Panthers didn't believe in covering preseason all american Tim Culp. Culp went 8 for 247 including 5tds. Junior Jason Huff played well in his first start throwing for 476 yards and 6 scores. The Husky running games was non existent today and must improve if Washington is going to have a chance the next few weeks.

A dominant first half helped the Sun Devils coast to a victory in week one, as the defense only allowed one second half score. The offense was dominated by star TE Steve James, who hauled in 10 passes, including three touchdowns. Richie Vinson also looked much improved, only making one mistake, which ultimately led to a three and out by Clemson. The Sun Devils will look to keep momentum against Troy next week.

    Stats

    Passing
    R. Vinson - 20/34, 234 yds, 3 TD/1 INT

    Rushing
    J. Underwood - 14 att, 85 yds

    Receiving

    P. Brady - 3 rec, 36 yds
    T. Anderson - 2 rec, 21 yds
