Doubtful. Last year was probably my last good chance. Now I'm stuck with a team of subhumans that can't block or tackle.

    Virginia Tech 35
    North Carolina 10

This game was dominated by Virginia tech from start to finish, but there were a few interesting wrinkles throughout the game. Virginia Tech starting QB Davis was benched for the final 3 quarters after complaining to the coaches about the lack of passing that went on in the first quarter (2 attempts, 2 completions, 68 yds). Freshaman Babcock came in completing 11/13 passes for 229 yds and 2 TDs. Babcock struggled a bit with the option, something that concerned coach Killernuts. "Kevin hasn't been able to do much with his feet this season when we've put the ball in his hands. This is what makes him special. He's fast and he's tough to tackle, but he's got that nice arm as well. It almost feels like we're misusing him if we can't get him the ball in situations where he can make some big plays." Sources say that they considered moving him to WR prior to the season, so that may still be an option.

On the ground, McGee picked up 89 yds on 12 carries. Thompson got 37 yards on 9 carries, but scored 3 TDs, as we was used mostly in the red zone and short yardage situations. Arnold has been mostly neglected this season, which is a bit disappointing and surprising given his success last season. Coach Killernuts blames this mostly on logistics. His 3 backs are all pretty equal in talent level. Thompson is powerful, and the other two are mostly balanced. McGee has a better 40 time, but Alonzo is more of the speedier back. He says that this makes it tough, especially with McGee's extra season in the system and his big play ability. <EDIT : Somehow Arnold broke his collarbone without me knowing. This, obviously, makes the decision easier. WTB medical redshirt?>

On the receiving end of things, McGee had 2 rec for 90 yds and 2 TD, most of which came on an 84 yard screen with a minute left in the first half. Bowling and Graham both caught passes for 38 and 81 yards respectively. Garcia had his first quiet performance in a while, catching only one pass for 12 yards.

MLB Mansfield was awarded ESPN's Impact Player status this week due to his history of strong performances, an honor which is rare for a true sophomore. He showed why he's worthy of that with 5 tackles and a sack. JUCO transfer Lee also recorded a sack on the day.

    Papa John's Premier Player Performances
    UNC QB Foster - 17/22, 213 yds
    VT QB Babcock - 11/13, 229 yds, 2 TD, 7 rushes, 18 yds
    VT RB McGee - 14 rushes, 89 yds, 2 rec, 90 yds, 2 TD
VT FS Mosby - 7 tackles, 1 tfl,

Next week is a bye - great timing since I will be in Cbus for the spring game.

    -------

I figure now would be a good point in the season to mention how some of the players are performing.

    Davis - 97/149, 1720 yds, 8 TD, 9 INT
He's completed a decent amount of passes, but there have been far too many mistakes as well.

    McGee - 65 att, 257 yds, 2 TD, 3.9 avg, 14 rec, 242 yds, 2 TD
He's struggled a little bit at times gaining yards on the ground, but has done decently on the ground.

    Thompson - 40 att, 174 yds, 8 TD, 1 rec, 20 yds, 1 TD
He's mostly been a short yardage back. His numbers are a bit skewed because of one game he had where he broke 100 yds.

    Garcia - 30 rec, 507 yds, 1 TD
He's down very well, he's been a sure hand and is able to win a lot of jump balls. His height has helped keep the ball out of the reach of jumping linebackers. This is an interesting year for the receivers, with 8 different players catching TD passes and 10 different people catching balls.

    Mansfield - 34 tackles, 5 sacks, 12 TFL
He's a bit behind the pace he set last year, but that's understandable with Thomas not grabbing as many double teams as the end last year and the quality of the teams Virginia Tech has played up to this point. He's still been all over the field, but he just hasn't capped off quite as many plays.

    Thomas - 21 tackles, 8 TFL, 4 sack, 1 FF
Thomas has actually played fairly well, but not up to Mitchell's level. He has been decent at times, but he gets blown off the ball quite a bit and that has hurt. His terrible performance against Penn State certainly did not help them in that game.

    Mosby - 25 Tackles, 5 TFL, 2 sack, 1 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR
Mosby is another Freshman stepping in and doing well. He is the definition of a play maker. He gets to the ball well and his big plays have certainly helped change the momentum of games. He's had a lot of hard hits on receivers to jar the ball loose, but that doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

    Alabama - 28
    Georgia - 20

This was another great game against Georgia. Joey Taylor was the difference maker again. He finished the day with 129 yards on 12 carries and a 76 yard TD that pushed Alabama to the win. Ryan McGee led the receivers with 86 yards on 4 catches. William Miller led the defense with 3 sacks on the day. He seemed unblockable during one stretch of the game.

The Ducks are finally putting together a passing game. The Ducks Qbs combined for 15/24 321yds 4 TD, but most importantly no ints. Jones had another 100yd day on the ground and added 2 more TD to his NCAA lead. True FR WR Jake Stewart had a break out day with 132yds TD.

    Week 6 (9/30) VS Purdue - L 28-21

Minneapolis, MN (AP) - Minnesota came into this game recovering from their first loss of the season, and they weren't able to bounce back. The Gophers were constantly looking a step behind. The inability to get a ground game going was the key factor for UM being unable to get anything going. Senior RB Scott Bell was only able to generate 12 yards on 9 carries, but Junior Chris Battle was able to put together 80 yards on 6 mainly due to a 77 yard sprint he had in the third quarter. Sophomore WR Pat Britt had a break out game, contributing 136 yards on 5 receptions and 2 TD's.

"This is another game where the lacking of a winning attitude within our boys showed, it will come with time."

Next week Minnesota will take a tough trip into Happy Valley to take on the Nittany Lions.

This was a big early season Big Ten match-up for the Buckeyes. The Badgers tried to quiet the rowdy crowd early in the game when they had an impressive opening drive. They easily drove down the field and went up 7 when WR Quintin Ashley pulled in a 19 yard TD reception. Ohio State would then go on a role. We scored the games next 31 points, including 21 in the 2nd quarter. Joe Burton and Earl Miller got us started with 85 and 28 yard TD receptions, respectively. Midway through the 2nd quarter, HB Calvin Cobbs would replace the injured HB Todd Harris. Harris dislocated his shoulder, but should be back next week. Cobbs stepped right in and added a pair of TD's(1,86). Ohio State was dominating the Badgers 31-7 entering the 4th quarter. Wisconsin was not done. They put together a ferocious comback. The would add 3 TD's in 3 minutes. They were aided by an onside kick recovery. Their TD with 1:55 left pulled them within 5. They lined up for another onside kick, but this time OSU would recover. The Buckeyes were able to run out the clock and secure a win.

Next week we play travel to West Lafayette to play the Purdue Boilermakers.

    Key Stats
    QB Taylor McKenzie 11/19 293 2TD 0INT
HB Calvin Cobbs 13 rushes 102 yards 2 TD
    WR Joe Burton 4-163 1TD
    DE Jamaal Winston 2 Sacks
