Minnesota Wins 17-10 Slugfest With #19 TCU

Sophomore safety Steven Willis celebrates Minnesota's win over Texas Christian.

When you put up 150 yards of offense, you're going to lose nine times out of ten- today was that one out of ten. Minnesota's offense put together merely 157 yards on offense, 48 rushing and 13 passing, respectively. Besides one drive that ended with a 3 yard plunge by Jason Anderson for a score, Minnesota relied on its defense and big plays to get the job done. The defense came through with 3 turnovers. The big play the Gophers needed also came along, by way of a 58 yard pass from Joe Keenan to Pat Britt. Britt took a slant from the slot across the middle, juked the safety, got a nice downfield block from his fellow wideout Blake Coleman, and was off to the races.

Offensively, Chris Battle ran for 61 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Joe Keenan went a manageable 5-11 for 102 yards and the touchdown to Britt, who was also the leading receiver on the day catching two of the five Keenan passes for 65 yards. The offensive line did a fairly good job, helping Battle find running lanes and only surrendering 1 sack to the TCU defense.

The entire defensive unit played well today, so it shard to pick out an individual players. The Horned Frogs were held to 4-12 on third down, a measly 33%. They fared no better on fourth downs, going 25% with 1-4. Not a whole lot to say, just have to tip your hat to a great defensive effort.

"Our defense kind of took on a 'bend but don't break' approach throughout the game, and they did a good job of not breaking. That's a good win for this program and the fans, especially here at home."
Coach Kasper on the teams performance.

"We just kinda went out and followed Coach's gameplan, fortunately we executed well today and it showed on the score board."
    Junior linebacker Pat Willis.
