Phil Johnson (WR #3), Ashton Gross (MLB #1) and Blake Hodges (CB #3) are the best players in this class. Johnson gives Penn State another receiver to pair with redshirt freshmen Tramon Clark and Adam Lee. He also helps ease the lose of 3 wide receivers after this season. Gross was plucked out of the state of Alabama. He said something about SEC schools and wanting to actually get an education :). Hodges and fellow :4stars: recruit Mike Pryor give Penn State some depth at corner. Both likely redshirt next season as Penn State will have 6 senior cornerbacks.

    - (***) LOLB Travis Walker has committed to Penn State
    - (****) LE Marcus Taylor has committed to Penn State

Taylor is more of a luxury pick as defensive end is not a high priority, but he has a good combination of speed and size. He should develop into a good edge rusher in a couple seasons.

    Another update:

    - (****) CB Billy Ward has committed to Penn State

    Notes: JUCO SO/ESPN 150

Projects as a CB so he is another piece in preparing for the mass exodus after next season (6 junior cornerbacks on current roster)

He has good speed (A) and man coverage skills (B+). He also is solid in zone coverage (B) and his play recognition ability is also high (B) for a recruit. His awareness (D-), strength (D) and tackling technique (D) are areas of concern. For those reasons, Ward may redshirt next season.

Nittany Lions fill their last scholarship with an unheralded JUCO recruit. Griffin was recruited heavily out of high school but due to his grades he ended up at a local junior college. He worked on his graded and his football skills, Penn State coaches appeared to be the only ones who took notice. He is one of the best run blockers in this class and should provide immediate depth for Penn State.
