The offense struggled in this game but a big game from the defense secured the win. The defense scored 2 touchdowns in this game, one early and one late. Early in the second quarter nickel back Mike Wallace picked off a pass and returned it for a TD. Dime back Stephen Agyapong finished off Texas's slim hopes of a comeback when he scooped a fumble for a TD late in the fourth quarter. CJ Olaniyan forced the fumble on his first sack of the season and CJ added a second sack on the next offensive play Texas ran.

The offense was sloppy and will need to improve a lot to win next week against Oregon. Newsome missed some open receivers and he passed for just 154 yards. He did pass for a touchdown and rushed for one. He also did not turn it over, though he was helped by Texas dropping passes. The run game also struggled as Duke and Goss combination got off to a rocky start. They rushed for 52 yards on 15 carries and were outgained by Newsome, who finished with 52 yards on 12 carries.

Oregon is next for Penn State. The Ducks beat Penn State the past couple seasons so Penn State is hoping for some revenge. The defense will need to continue playing at a high level and the offense will need to improve on the week 1 performance.

Offensive Player of the Game: Kevin Newsome 8-17 154 1/0; 12 carries 52 yards 1 TD

Defensive Player of the Game: Stephen Agyapong 3 tackles (3 solo) 2 deflections 1 fumble recovery 1 defensive TD
