Lone Star Showdown: Texas @ Texas A&M The Aggies stood in the way of Texas first Big 12 title in The Tradition. With the Longhorns, Sooners and Aggies all sitting with one conference loss, all the 'Horns need to do was win this game and they would get the tiebreak via H2H victory over the Sooners. The first half was a defensive slugfest, the offenses did move the ball some but drives ended in FG's, Turnovers or a punt. Some big sacks by both teams also put offenses in bad down and distances. Score at the half was 10-10. Longhorns got the ball to start the 2nd half and started the scoring onslaught that would be theme of the rest of the game. Both teams mixed the running game in nicely with accurate passing and started getting some big plays on the run after catch. I think the Longhorns shocked the Aggies a bit by looking away from the TE in key situations and utilizing their very speedy slot WR. He killed our secondary in the 3rd and 4th qtrs. The game turned on 3rd qtr defensive turnover. Texas QB Warren tried to get one over the top on the two senior DB's for A&M on that side of the field and CB Hart got a hand on the ball and tipped it to FS Max Rouse who picked it off and ran it back deep into Texas territory. This would lead to A&M taking a 14 pt lead early into the 4th qtr. The 'Horns wouldn't give in though, they kept attacking but ran out of time as the teams traded scores for the remainder of the game. Final Score: Texas 38 A&M 41 Texas A&M got a huge game from Freshman RB Eugene Fields as he racked up 139 yards on just over 20 carries. He ran with more power today than we have seen this season, and once in the open field, he is very dangerous. Todd Butler had one of his more accurate passing games too... after a 1st drive INT deep in Texas territory, he went 20 of 23 the rest of the game for 262 yards and 2 touchdowns. This was a big win for the Aggies, vaulting them to 2nd in the Big 12 and a possible rematch with ASU in the Holiday Bowl.
