Want to get a nice powerfull desktop from a good company, and get a decent price.

    Any suggestions?

I shopped Alienware and have previously purchased a laptop from them that I wish I wouldnt have now...as I paid for the name and got a decent to nice machine but paid top dollar..

If you purchased from a company and had a good experience I would love to hear about it.

    Thank you.

You're best bet is to find a friend(if you don't know how) and build one on your own. Alienware is just like Mac, you pay for a shiny case and the name. You over pay for the same components you could buy individually.

What is your budget and do you need a monitor? I have been doing a lot of reading as I piece together a new one I hope to build this summer.

You can save a lot if you're capable of building it yourself.

Otherwise, I like Asus a lot. Good quality, fairly cheap.

Couple G's is my budget if need be.

I can build them myself but have had some issues in the past with getting everything to work nice together..!

Do you have preferences of anything? I am gonna build you one just because I am bored. I already re-built one of the Alienware computed. The basic desktop model with the only upgrade being the video card. It came out to be about $450 cheaper and that was with me putting a $150 mobo in, which I'm sure they don't use one better then what you can get for that.

On a side note, Newegg had 128GB SSD made by Crucial(5 egg rating) on sale for $129.99 which is an amazing deal. I bought one, 2 hours later I get an email saying the order was canceled and they were sold out. I talked to a support guy online though and they said I could order it when it's back in stock and be credited with the difference in price.

before you buy you should be checking the qualified vendor listings on the products website. They have lists of what memory and cpu's will work with what motherboards. Other than that you shouldn't have any other problems.

    What Shaun said.

Unless you're running high end games or are some type of graphical artist, you don't need to spend thousands of dollars on some crazy machine.

Spend 5 to 8 hundred bucks on a laptop and call it a day man. Shop around and make sure you're getting good bang for your buck and call it a day.

Or, like others have said, build one yourself.

No one has to spend thousands of dollars on anything. 90% of what we buy we could have gotten by on the lesser version.

Had to completely remove the dvd drive to find three hidden screws. Got it opened and cleaned. Surprisingly it wasn't that dirty for how many years I've had it. I'll have to see if it makes it run cooler.

Interesting - typically when I crack them open they are pretty disgusting, particularly if you have any pets.

If its still running hot, did you try one of those laptop cooler things - you can get em anywhere for like 30-40 bucks.
